Of course.

The bit about not getting a star at 8 was made up to bolster his point, no one actually said that - or even implied it

Just that if you want a superstar you need to be higher up in the draft. Exceptions that prove the rule notwithstanding

How is pick 8 not relevant? It's literally the exact pick we're discussing the merits of trading.

It depends on how far 21 slides to. I think there will be players with considerably more upside still on the table at that pick. If Valente was best available at that 4th pick I would be desperately hoping to trade it for a 2019 first rather than take him.
Understand the contrary view but have a hunch he could surprise a few

This time of year cracks me up. Everyone getting a hard on for some kids kicking when he's running around playing TAC U18's.

I've seen Jordy lacing out JJ, at full tilt, under pressure v Sydney at the SCG in the last quarter when the game was in the balance.

When I see Master Butters executing the skill that cleanly, under that pressure, at such a big time of an AFL match against serious opposition - I'll compare his kicking to Gallucci's.
Knickers in a knot much?

Gallucci is two years in the AFL system. His short kicking wasn’t exactly a feature of his game. You have a go at others for having a hard on for what is done at U18 but the. You compare Gallucci of two preseasons and 2 seasons of AFL development under jis belt to a kid whose U18s season was cut short with a shoulder injury. Let’s be a little bit realistic here. Gallucci is vastly improved player now than two years ago, especially in the kicking department.

Losing McGovern was a blessing. If I were a Carlton supporter I would have been very concerned hearing his latest interview explaining missing out on the GF was his reason for leaving .
What a very very average human. Get rubbish like that out of any organisation. What would have he done if he wasn’t injured and missed due to form?
Exactly , better club without guys like that despite their talent

Good...so you agree with my overarching point that they shouldn't be compared.

No! Player comparisons happen even with recruiters let alone fans. However, they should be compared but not in a way that you are doing it. Compare Gallucci in his draft year to Butters in his draft year.

When you’re comparing these kids all you can do is judge them on same period of their career

There isn’t any other way
So people should say that - Butters is a better kick than Gallucci at the same time of their development.

Comparing apples with oranges otherwise

Matt Balmer's 2016 draft summation

#29 Jordan Gallucci
Outside Midfielder (Eastern Ranges/Vic Metro)
04/05/1998 | 180.0cm | 77.5kg

The athletic Jordan Gallucci has fluctuated around in my ratings all season. He showed plenty of promise in 2015 with many expecting him to have one of the better kicks in the draft pool. Unfortunately Gallucci could not find his feet as to where he best played his football, mixing between half back, midfield and periods up forward. For me I think he is best suited on the outside, rebounding across half back or on the wing. His kicking has struggled at times this year, at the 61 per cent (when combing TAC Cup & Under 18 championships). His athletic traits in speed and agility are outstanding, where he can burn opponents off running forward. Can win his own football in the midfield and his clearance work when on the inside has been strong.

Clearly you're not bothering to read what I'm posting.

Comparing them both in their draft year is exactly what I'm saying - not blanket statements that one is a better kick than the other which is what was being done.

If there is some truth to the speculation that Rankine could go 1, getting him out of Carlton would be harder than Gold Coast?

That's fine but it's not what I'm arguing at all.
