Agreed, and of very very good character which is a big deal for us. I reckon we take him with 16 actually.

Bit of a reach but he does deserve to be a first rounder.
Hoping he’s there with 21 and there’s a slider at 16 out of Butters Jones RCD and don’t mind McHenry as he’s going to get best out of himself

Not sure we will ever want to stop developing draft picks.
I get the Hawks are doing that now but there success was built through developing draft picks
Exactly - they are treading water now rather than thriving . Finals time they are the opposite of the invincible team they once were . Will battle to make the
top 6 IMO . I’d be trying to trade with them for their 1st rounder next year

Every year you get a first and a second, keep players and develop those. Every time we lose first choice players it takes 3 years before they are up to scratch. Danger left 3 years ago and it’s taken the second half of his third year before Mileras really contributing.

Think I’d rather lose McGovern and Lever

Danger and Gunston hurt but the club and game style was too Danger focussed when he was here so swings and roundabouts in some ways

Losing McGovern was a blessing. If I were a Carlton supporter I would have been very concerned hearing his latest interview explaining missing out on the GF was his reason for leaving .
What a very very average human. Get rubbish like that out of any organisation. What would have he done if he wasn’t injured and missed due to form?

I do too and think he’s underrated , just not overly suited to our current squad

Who knows in 3-4 yrs time

Hawks had Mitchell Hodge Lewis and Sewell in their glory years , not much speed there

Good players are good players as long as surround them with speed
He’d be hard to fit into the same midfield as Sloane/Mrouch/Gibbs/Greenwood though. Maybe when he moves into the midfield full time around 2021/22, Gibbs and Sloane start to transition to half back/half forward, Gibbs even a wing?

You’re right in that his kicking efficiency is unbelievable for his position, something none of our mids truly have

Hard to pin point a comparison, he won’t be as good as Sam Mitchell but he’s that style of player

It would be lovely to hold all our players but it is the modern game. It’s what the players wanted.

As for Fagans comments I am sure 80% of us would have better football IQs than him

Yep thinking Sloane and Gibbs to flanks within 2-3 years which works out well

Wouldn’t mind a midfield rotation of M Crouch B Crouch Caldwell Hately Rankine and Valente within 3-4 years

I'm worried we bid on Quaynor and collingwood dont match. I also think Hately ends up at Geelong. Would love to grab him if available though.

Given their picks they’d have to match otherwise they are getting are far inferior player but we’d have to be happy to take him there of course !
Have it on pretty good authority that Crows are into Quaynor and will definitely make a bid. Question is when they make a bid and then whether they bid on Kelly.

From AFL Draft Central:

The best example could be Collingwood who are set to have to match Isaac Quaynor and Will Kelly, which if they are high enough could see them lose all their picks from 41 to 60, and may still not have enough points to match. While they will definitely be fine matching Quaynor, the placement of the Quaynor bid could determine Kelly’s future. The club will hope that the Quaynor bid does not come in the top 10, because if it does, and Kelly – who has been invited to draft night – also cops a first round bid forcing the Magpies into deficit, they Collingwood are unable to match as they traded their first rounder to Brisbane in the Dayne Beams exchange. If Kelly’s bid comes in the second round, that will be fine as the points deficit will come off next year’s second rounder instead.

Arguably the keenest club on both, especially Quaynor, is Adelaide, who holds picks 8, 13, 16 and 21. With Nick Blakeyand Tarryn Thomas‘ bids expected to come before Quaynor on draft night, Adelaide could hold picks 9 (after a club bids on Blakey) and 15 (after Thomas bid), with that latter pick expected to be the bid on Quaynor. Any later picks and the Pies will have the points to cover easily. The remaining sides with father-son and academy prospects are not expected to have any issues matching bids.

I’ve changed my tune a bit re losing players , used to be the end of the world now it’s an opportunity

As for guys like Gov and Lever - see ya later . Invest in the club or bye

Would not like to lose 1 or more per season but 1 every 2-3 years is maybe unavoidable

Do think we need to be able to trade more ready made players in and not just draft picks , actually need to create what Brisbane have currently got where people genuinely want to go there despite their ladder position, Head coach Fagan is loveable which is key

I still wouldn’t be going with both Hately and Valente, them plus Mrouch is one too many slow mids

Replace Hately with RCD and that midfield is superb if developed well

Someone on Facebook posted from an event Fagan was a speaker at. Claimed Fagan said we wanted 5 picks in the first 25 for this draft because we rated it so highly and had McAdam rated at 16 on our talent list.

Actually, that makes me wonder if we might go the opposite direction to what everyone thinks, go down instead of up, but get extra picks by doing it. After 15 we dont have to worry about port anymore, meaning if there's some local talent we rate, perhaps we give away 16 and /or 21 and try to turn one pick in to two, two into three or four??

I think it’s easier to attract players when you are on the way up. You don’t have salary cap issues and can offer fat coin like Melb did with Lever and Bris did. Would be near impossible for us to attract many top end talents . I think we are best going back to the draft and developing

Yep this is my attitude now. We’re becoming more like American sports where player movement is the norm. Star players switch clubs all the time over there

Was inevitable with the induction of FA. Soon you’ll be able to become an RFA after four or five years IMO

Wow he must be good.

Some of Jordy's foot passing this season was absolutely elite
His running of angles and foot skills are elite for sure

My only concern is that sometimes small guys without elite speed and contested ball traits struggle at next level despite how clever they are

I really want one of the big contested ball guys at 13 eg Hately or RCD and very happy with Butters at 16 if he makes it there

Players are RFA after 2 years now

Losing players is fine as long as you make a profit. Lever, gov

Coming bottom or not winning any games at all and getting a priority pick

Oh yeah...

Can imagine the toxic atmosphere in here if we went 0-21.

The article on AFL website with Ports Geoff Parker is interesting for a few points.

“We threw up some different scenarios and they came back with different scenarios but in the end it's not going to work out that way and they'll probably keep their two picks and we'll keep pick five."

"I'm assuming Adelaide, with their draft picks, are in a similar spot to us so I'm not sure what else they could do that we couldn't do so I think Gold Coast are just keen to have those picks," Parker said.

This suggests three things
1. Port are very keen to trade up.
2. GC will trade if the price is right
3. Port must have already offered 5 and 10/15 as well as future first and got knocked back.
Otherwise why would he assume that Adelaide can’t do anything different to them.
Could be that the deals GC came back to Poot are be a bit better than what Crows have offered to GC (if there is such an offer) - ie GC are taking Crows' offer unless Poot can offer even more, which could be more than Poo are willing to cough up.

Very good points

Brisbane has both a good culture now and room in cap , need both to be a denstination
