How much to the Crows need to have Toumpas. If we wanted him we would need to get a pick above Port, if he slipped that far Port would nab him.
Toumpas will go in the top 3. Meaning we need to get pick 3 from GWS. Can't see it happening though, unless we get them a player as well. Not sure who would be worth pick 3 though. If GWS then decided to take Whitfield and Toumpas, it would leave Grundy, who also IMO fills a need. Just can't see what we could get to GWS that would be worth pick 3.

Vader, Rucci said this morning that the Crows could move Tambling to the rookie list, we would still need to pay his contract but we will be doing that anyway. Is that possible, and why wouldnt we do it and still have potentially 3 low picks?
If we are left with a decent pick to use, then this sounds like a great plan.

Why not give them Tippett through the PSD & trade for their #3 pick for our 1st rounder + fringe player.

Consider the players on our rookie list this year. Firstly the movements which have already been announced:
  • Young - retired
  • Callinan - upgraded
  • Orval - contracted for 2013
Young & Callinan account for the decrease in list size. Any further departures should result in vacancies for the RD (sort of).

Now to the crystal ball:
  • Craig - must surely be delisted
  • Martyn - must also be delisted **
  • Dowdell - project player, hopefully re-signed **
  • Laird - should be re-signed
  • McIntyre - I would re-sign him, plenty of people on this board wouldn't
** occupies a position outside the normal rookie list, so his departure will not create a vacancy which can be filled via the RD.

With the AFL decreasing the list sizes, we're probably only looking at 1 selection in the RD - possibly 2 if McIntyre gets the chop as well.

This is all correct However it does not change what Noble said Three picks in the draft
Either he cant count or it was a Freudian slip

Apologies ... but great minds...

GWS may need help offloading a player to free up their cap to fit in Kurt & I'm sure we could help them out there too.

We can easily make this a win/win for the clubs.

This was in response to the famous Hawthorn trade that's now illegal supposedly

But GWS want Tippett
We trade Tambling & #19 for GWS pick 3 plus send Tippett to PSD

There's enough evidence now that we cannot get a deal done with Sydney ....so not as if we haven't tried

paul bower anyone?
If we start "topping up" with mature players because we're in a premiership window I'll scream

Need to keep youth coming in so we can have sustained success ....not fleeting success

Bower makes too many skill errors ....in finals really bad

:(

From these past few articles with opinions from Rendell, it seems like he still wants to be at the Crows just as badly as we still want him there.

I am confused that someone floated Carlton will trade pick 11 and it is now ours. Hasten slowly.
I would rather see us trade a pick with GWS which forces Tippett to draft.

I am not following that Rookie list needs to be cut from 6 to 4. This year we had 8 including Dodwell. We could have had 1 more Rookie by having Callinan upgraded earlier.
Can we get 3 before needing to delist Craig or Martyn
Dowdell & Martyn are both outside the normal quota of rookies. Martyn was a NSW Scholarship player, Dowdell an International Talent signing.

Exclude these two and we're back to the regulation 6.

We couldn't have an extra rookie by upgrading Callinan earlier. The problem was that we only had 1 player who was eligible for veteran list status (Doughty). This meant that we were only able to fill 39 of our 40 positions on the senior/veteran list. Upgrading Callinan would have resulted in us taking one less draftee last year and one rookie (filling Callinan's vacancy). In either case, we still would have had 39 on the senior/veteran list and 8 on the rookie list.

Reading into Noble's interview, I may check it again later to clarify, Noble was pretty certain that he would only have one live pick in the draft, probably where my confusion started. I am almost certain at this point that he is planning to bring in an extra player during trade period.
This is quite possible. One extra player arriving via trade --> down to a solitary "live" selection in the ND.
Assuming again we end up with 11, 20 and 23, and we on trade to get e.g. GHS, how do we increase one of our picks to get up further?
We do a trade which only involves picks. For example, if we traded pick #23 to Geelong for GHS, that would leave us with 1 vacancy and picks 11 & 20. We could trade these two picks, in exchange for a pick inside the top-10. The other club would slide a few places down in the first round, but would gain a 2nd 1st round draft pick as compensation. We would gain a top-10 pick as our only "live" selection.

Just cut your losses. Delist Tambling and Martin.

Use some good picks
Martin was given a new 2-year contract this year. I can understand the club paying out the last year of a contract, but paying out a contract that's barely 3 months old is just ridiculous. That said, I agree with the sentiments.

The only mechanism for moving a player to the rookie list is via the Rookie Draft. We have to delist him, then re-draft him in the RD.

Doing so would free up a position on our senior list, without materially changing our salary cap situation. Note that he would receive his current contracted payments whether he's on the senior list or rookie list.

It's definitely an option. No reason not to do it that I can think of.

I'd leave Tambling because he is ready made depth. We were fortunate with injuries last season. May need a mature player next season.
Considering the number of kids we have looking for a position next year, there is absolutely nothing that Tambling brings that we need.

As it stands we have 2 "live" selections and 2 "pre-selected" selections in the ND. There are two ways of interpreting his words - 3 picks overall, or 3 "live" selections. To have 3 picks overall, we'd just need to trade in another player. To have 3 "live" selections we need to delist another player.
