Make a lot of Sense. Need Ruck Back-Up and Ruck Coach
Not that I think Minson won't be handy with a bit of coaching for Brodie, but why do we need another ruck coach ? Are you not happy with how Brodie has developed so far ? In his 4th year, he was amongst the top handful of rucks in the 2nd half of the year. Tracking very well from the coaching/development he's received thus far in his career, IMO.

Minson would be a very good list management decision as a back up ruckman.

Always good to get additional perspectives I suppose.

Isnt Matt Rendell still at the club?? I would guess on top of his recruiting he is there IF Brodie needs him which on his current form/projection I dont think he does.

Yes but His 1st Job is the Head Assistant Recruiter under Hine

I would say a ruck coach is a full time job.. Maybe 3 hours a week max..

Might give Rendall more time to work on the Recuriter Position. Rendall will still be used as Minson still has to Train

EFA. It may be a tad more than 3 hours a week when you factor in all the work they do on clearance drills but definitely part time.

This is 1 of those questions I've always been a bit meh about. No one has shown definitively that the ruck coaching at the club isn't adequate or identified a ruck coach who we should get that is available.

Hudson seemed the ideal option but he wanted to return to QLD.

People suggest Monkey but that's more to do with the romance than anyone actually knowing if he's any good, and he apparently likes working at the Hawks because Waverly is close to home.

Someone like Simon Madden, even on short term periodic contracts, would be good if he could be enticed to the club.

Maybe Steven King.

But how are any of these guys better than Rocca & Rendell?

Looking what Ruck they Produce.

Monkey has done with not a Great Rucks at the Hawks

He did okay with Bailey, McEvoy and Hale were already established ruckmen when they got to the Hawks, Ceglar is developing but there midfield has survived on the efforts of all their other mids rather than via regular ruck dominance. Just not sure what all that says about Monkey's coaching prowess.

Rocca was not a ruckman and Rendell finished playing in about 1985. Times have changed, rules have changed. Surely we can do better than having a key forward or a guy who last played 30 years ago as our ruck coaches.

Rocca was a very good ruckman, just didn't have the tank to play regular midfield.

Malthouse last played in 82, Sheedy 79. They seemed to be able to coach up until recently. Rendell finished in the early 90's so he's got at least 10 years on them. I doubt you know him, I doubt you know the work he's done or the work he does to remain relevant yet you pick some arbitrary irrelevant fact out as though that is the entire case against his coaching capacity.

True. I would hope and expect that he is in fact a very good ruck coach... and I'm guessing the club is happy with him in the role. But not playing and being in the game for a long time is hardly and "arbitrary irrelevant fact". The game changes and the AFL consensus seems to be you need to have more recent playing experience than that. Malthouse and Sheedy, who you mention, have been pensioned off for exactly that reason. It's essentially exactly the same reason why Nathan Buckley took over from MM. So obviously it is a very relevant consideration for the club when looking at coaching appointments.
