He's 26 years old, with 3x AFL pre-seasons under his belt. Do you really think he's ever going to build the kind of tank needed to sustain that level of performance? It's unlikely at best.

We need to accept him for the player he is, and give him a role which suits his strengths - as we did in 2017. Unfortunately, injuries have forced our hand in 2018, and he's been given more responsibility than his body is capable of sustaining.
He hasnt had a full run at a summer yet either

Can’t wait for DMac’s 200th game. We can compile a video where he has been steam-rolled/rag-dolled/pushed aside by first year players!

Was it the 18yo, 11 gamer Cerra who ran thru him this week?
No, it was 200cm, 98kg, Alex Pearce, who had a full head of steam up before he hit Mackay.

If anything, this will probably make Pyke's highlights reel from the game, as one of the few occasions where a Crows player was in the right position and actively put his body on the line, despite being faced by a bigger and stronger player with momentum on his side.

I can understand him being mocked for his Benny Hill performance on the goal line against Melbourne, but mocking him for his effort against Pearce is absolutely disgraceful.

Wilson, Sig, Hampton, hell even Edwards would have better intent than Atkins.
I've read plenty of good things about Wilson, know nothing of Signorello, Hampton looks like his card has been stamped with "delist", and Edwards look frailer than Dmac. What I was suggesting was that the "plenty" you mentioned were all ready playing AFL due to top-10 injuries, and the cupboard is now bare. ;)
Is Wilson an outside runner? If so, bring him in for either Atkins/Dmac, ASAP. What're his disposals like?

Where did the Edwards look frailer than Dmac come from? Seems weird

My weekly observation

Greenwood - Another typical Greenwood game, nice grab and goal at the end too. One wonders what he (and the mid group) could achieve with a half decent ruck.

Jenkins - Played OK without being great, And looks injured. We all know what he's like when he plays injured.

Crouch - Making mistakes he doesn't usually make because he's spent. Having to play more outside because we have nothing.

Gibbs - 2nd week in a row he has tried to get us moving, formlines lifting again.

Kelly - No comment or I'll be banned

Poholke - Much better this week, looks to have some balance and composure at very least.

Seedsman - Down on form, he doesn't look fit.

Talia - Super under huge pressure. Let's hope those reports of injury aren't correct.

Walker - Gave his all while he had the petrol, and was more effective than Lynch had been. A risk we had to take I guess, but it failed.

Mackay - Tries hard, and my god he must be sore post game. But that's all. A few players could learn from his attack on the contest.

Hartigan - Not real good, not real bad.

Brown - An upside down game. Brilliant in the air, terrible by foot. Will miss a couple at least.

Betts - 2.6...... And you could have passed a couple of those off. Not a major issue, but a costly one.

Gibson - Tries to work both ways, And should have had 2 goals. With injuries mounting further he deserves his place for now.

Atkins - The opposite of Mackay. Looks like he refuses to lay physical pressure. Must be held accountable

Jacobs - How bad is it that we have allowed him to fall this low. He's so cooked.

Douglas - Solid if unspectacular again.

Ellis-Yolman - We don't need another big, slow unaccountable player. Time for some more pace.

Milera - Turnovers aplenty, but he tried to take it on. Faded in the 2nd half when we needed him.

Fogarty - Same as previous, doing some special things but nowhere near enough. Play him this week before the bye, looks like he needs it.

Doedee - Who can chase down Walters after a 10m head start ?? This kid can. He has been absolutely outstanding this year. So composed, doesn't make too many mistakes.

Murphy - I like him, but he isn't doing enough forward. Move him to half-back and put Gooch forward.

No, it was 200 cm, 98 kg Alex Pearce who barrelled DMac.

18 year old, 11 gamer Adam Cerra was too busy outmarking Josh Jenkins on consecutive clearing kicks from our defence.

Where did the Edwards look frailer than Dmac come from?
Casual observation, without checking; "look" was about appearance, not fact.
Now checked.
Edwards is 4 cms taller, 1 Kg more but looked skinnier/frailer to me which is odd since Dmac has the physical presence of an underfed boy. My memory ain't what it used to be. I thought Dmac was taller, but isn't --- maybe he wears boots with lifts on game day? ;)

Our speculation doesn't matter. They won't drop Atkins or Dmac this week. :(

Collectively I think we tried our guts out. We just have no confidence and no composure and it cost us. They knew how badly we needed those 4 points.. And it got the better of them.

Scoring used to be so effortless for us, even when we weren't playing well. Now, it's an absolute grind to get it through the big sticks. There's also nothing anyone can say to cover up the fact that that was one of the worst losses in the club's history. Freo fielded an incredibly inexperienced team that had no right to beat Brisbane, let alone a team supposedly aiming to play finals. I can forgive the GWS & Melbourne losses, but not the Freo loss. Just pathetic.

Murphy - I like him, but he isn't doing enough forward. Move him to half-back and put Gooch forward.

Whilst I get the idea here, I wouldn't even consider moving him to half-back. There is no prospect of him becoming a half back player in our side as we've already got one super small player in Laird in that section. We cannot afford another. If anything, I'd throw Gooch back.

For Murphy it is purely a small forward or bust scenario (with maybe using the behind the square trick in the midfield in due time, he's quick enough for it). Equally, whilst he's doing alright defensively (say 3+ tackles), he's worth persisting with in that position and hoping the forward work comes with time/experience/us becoming better. There are some good tools there for it.

See, I can't forgive the effort we put out against Melbourne. Especially when there were arguments during the week at the footy club. They just didn't turn up. I think we at least tried our best as a club to get it together against Freo.. Unfortunately it's not just a switch you can turn back on as they found out. Belief and confidence probably took a massive hit against Port as well, then it's just been all downhill since then.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I meant I could forgive the actual result of losing to Melbourne, with respects to the fact that they are a good team and contending for finals. I agree with you 100% with respects to our appalling effort that day.

Play as the 2nd -3rd midfielder rather than 5th-6th

Shouldn't be playing as any midfielder given the amount of running / effort he puts in.

Has done some decent stuff on the inside, and you can probably play him as a dedicated inside mid to shoulder the load, but we have Crouch and Greenwood in the side atm. Can't carry his pathetic efforts.

Midfielders should be in the team to work their arse off first and foremost.

Are there many examples of Pearce or anyone else bowling over smaller players in similar fashion?

Geez, he’s also a decade or more younger too!..

You’re not defending Mackay again are you...
Only from ridicule for one particular incident, which should be on the highlights reel rather than the bloopers reel. But the haters are gonna hate.

** His Benny Hill effort against Melbourne clearly belongs on the Bloopers Reel. No argument there at all.
