Did laugh when when Mitchell went down in the middle after copping an O’Connor bump and hodge’s comments were ‘he wasn’t expecting that because he’s used to being looked after’ (by the umps) wtf is that haha
After today I'm starting to think Hodgey is actually a good bloke.
He was allright.

Thought it was disgusting at the ground. They really are the pits.
We spent 10 years hating the bloke because he was Hawthorn.
He won 3 flags there.

They booed him, our fans respond by cheering him to drown them out.
Footy is weird sometimes.

It baffles the mind that a team that has lost every free kick count this year two by large margins is somehow being carried by the umpires.
Our free kick differential over only 3 games is -25 that's more than 8 less frees per game on average, and we are the umpire pets :drunk:

Its a pity its not like yester year - and they still had that late edition of the Melbourne Herald Newspaper in circulation .

You can just picture it - early evening as the punters file past Flinders St station and popular walkways - there would be all the paper kids or paper boys with their stack of Heralds - and they would be holding one to the sky - and they would be yelling out one thing - and one thing only - and that is

" Hawthorn got beat - Hawthorn got beat - Read all about it - Read all about it "

Realistic and sensible Geel supporters know that the Cat side that took to the field today isnt much chop - however there is a glint of hope - Dangerfield the champ back the following week - Cameron hopefully over his injuries - Menegola pretty good player - and even Gary Rohan ( terrible GF record ) - but still easily in Geelongs best 22

The bottom line for me - whenever The Cats triumph over The Hawks - im quite joyous - end of story - end of post .
Hawthorn got beat is news? Regular thing!

WTF is going on with our gamestyle? Getting to the point where I am embarrassed to admit that I barrack for the Cats...
Weird thing to thing to say. Would never be embarrassed to tell people about the team that I support.
Even a small difference in fitness levels have huge impacts. It's 100% the shorter preseason. That's not to say they'll all become Olympians but it's pretty obviously the work they weren't able to do
Now’s the time for a lot of teams to take shots at the top 4 from 2020. All coaches know that the best teams of last year are underdone. They know that as the season goes on, fitness will build and catch up to tactics and skill, and these highly credentialed teams will turn it on.

We are victims of not having been ahead of the game. It's been clear for some time that pace, stamina, and quickly finding the open man is the way of the future. The change to the man-on-the-mark and interchange rules have hastened the game transformation.

There are a number of clubs who are ahead of the game, none more so than the dish lickers. Well drilled, pace, stamina, and smart with recruiting. They will only get a year or two out of Stefan Martin but he's taking the pressure off Tim English while allowing him to develop. They also have depth.

That said, we have players to return and we didn't shoot out of the blocks last year either. He says with fingers crossed.🤞
Teams are ahead of the game at the moment. Time will tell if they can maintain.

Thought this was interesting:

Wonder if the head is going to be sacrosanct at the MRO this week?

If this is our side instead today:

OUT: Dahl, Constable, Evans, Holmes
IN: Danger, Menegola, Cameron, Rohan

We win by a lot...and I mean, a lot. It was a really tough watch, but it clicked for me halfway through the second what was happening, and why we couldn't just bomb it forward - because we didn't have the structure up forward to bring it to ground (they had Hartigan and Frost - we only had Hawkins as a tall, with Evans, Dahl, Holmes, Higgins and Smith, as other forward options). If we had Cameron, Rohan and even Danger up forward, we could get it in quick as much as we'd like.

We then ended up two down on the bench, so we doubled down on that strategy, and essentially just defended the game - and nearly lost it - until Clark and Henry's match-winning, GF esque moment in the last, gave us that little bit of spark that ultimately carried us across the finish line (just).

It was ugly AF, no denying that, but I think we look vastly different come round 5. We'll look even more different once Sav is available too, and even Simmo.

Bring on next week and the Cameron debut!!
Yep, good coaching, playing to the strengths (and weaknesses) of the team.

Not sure what supporters want to see - us playing run and gun and getting gutted on turnovers and having a big loss. Richmond tried it (that’s all they know how to do) and got smashed.

Scott is being over-magnanimous on Footy Classified at the moment regarding his behaviour against the Lions last week. This whole thing is such a bullshit puritanical witch hunt.

"It's about the image we present to the lower levels".

I doubt he actually believes that shit but he's in such an invidious position that he *has* to say it.

I doubt he actually believes that sh*t but he's in such an invidious position that he *has* to say it.

Also I can't believe that they actually made Scott dignify Eddie's bizarre "Scott's demonstrative reactions in the coaches box are a cause for concern" comment with a response. One of Eddie's worst takes ever...and there's a lot of competition for that title.

Yep rusty as a knight in rusty armour, 37 rusty touches. I was there and didn't realise how much leather poisoning he suffered.

We'll his kicking was a little off, he went to ground a few times around stoppages off a little body contact, kept walking off his line, must have been called to play on 4,5 times which forced him onto a rushed kick.

But if I had to point to something that isn't just my opinion/memory from watching the game, his AFL player rating was a little under 10, his average for the last two years is roughly the same amount. In the 2019 and 2020 seasons he averaged around 23 disposals. So with 60% more disposals, he had the same player rating. Which suggests to me that something beyond the amount of times he had the ball in his game was below par.

I always picture that "Re-NEDucation" scene from the Simpsons, except instead of Flanders it's Gil

As I understand it our offensive plan up until this season essentially revolves around targeting marks/contests inside 50 from Danger/Hawk/Rohan. We now have JC to add to that list, and I suspect that only having one of those options available for the last two games has contributed to the slow gameplan.
Zero point zinging it into the forward half if its going to come straight back out again, so each entry is slow, giving the teams defenders a chance to form up behind play and try and hold the ball in. If possible target Hawkins leading out on the boundary, odds are he either marks it or it becomes a throw in where Hawk is again a powerful presence.
Its pretty ugly to watch, but its clever coaching. As others have mentioned once the marking targets come back we need to start using quicker movement, but until then ugly wins are much more fun than attractive losses.
Great to have Duncan back, looked a bit rusty but to be expected. Unfortunate that Higgins is down, he has been good and I was salivating at watching him work in tandem with Duncan. Hawk huge as always (we are gonna miss him so bad when he hangs up the boots). Guthrie huge, tough to pick between him and Duncan as our number one mid now. Also LOL at the pidgeon who had the most CBA's of the day. Go catters.
