I do feel like he is contributing to the issues late in games getting run over. It forces the other midfielders to have to compensate and defend constables man defensively from stoppages.. when they tire this is a difficult thing for them to do like the fourth quarter today.
I guess the MC thought about that and hence he is the medical sub. Just one too early today (not that I am a fan).

Nice positive spin. We can never play bad in some eyes. If we do then it’s ....a..b..c. Set of reasons. Interesting!

We played like absolute dog sh*t lol - there is no denying that...I'm just trying to explain why we might be doing it. I discussed this earlier on, and it certainly looked even more stilted than usual. Even in the first quarter, we seemed to be deliberately looking for a way to isolate Hawkins/not open us up on turnover due to there being no forward line presence to keep it locked in.

If it's still the same after Round 5, when we have our structure we had planned on having during pre-season, then I'll be right on board with the criticism of our game style. Until then, I'm reserving judgement 'til I've seen what happens when we have the right players to utilize whatever our game plan might be.

If it's still this BS kick mark, slow the game down crap in 2 weeks time, then I won't be saying a word to decry anyone who howls it down.

Not sure if mentioned yet but with a few minutes left Atkins decides to leave his opponent and cause a stoppage
2 hawks were running onto that ball, that effort alone could’ve been the reason we won.
Clarks goal, Jack Henry take a bow son

For all the love that the Henry/Clark goal is getting (rightly so), it was that moment that won us the match IMO - absolute sheer determination to bodyline the ball and stop the 3 Hawks surging forward. Was incredible to see

Loved what Holmes did on debut, did not look overawed one bit. Another game under his belt, and he could get even better.

Constable, just no defensive side to him whatsoever, and players like O'Meara literally just waltzed out of the stoppage past him - tough to watch, and just not what a player should be doing at stoppage after stoppage.

Dahl is so cooked at the moment, and offered literally nothing in that game.

Higgins out for 4 weeks is annoying, as is Evans for however long he's gone for, but it does make selection easier with who we've got returning.

This week, I reckon, for mine:

OUT: Evans (injured), Higgins (injured), Dahl (omitted), Constable (sub)

IN: Cameron, Menegola, Close

what it will be -

OUT: Evans, Higgins, Constable

IN: Cameron, Menegola

One thing he did last week against the lions that I didn’t bring up but wish I did
When JSel gave away the 50 for his late tackle
Mitch Robinson can flying in and rag dolled JSel with Atkins coming in and ripping Robbo’s head off.
We’ve been a nice team for too long, was a highlight of the game for mine last week

Yes! Me too. He's a "hard edge" suburban footballer we've been missing.

Sounds like there's a line through Sav for a while yet. His leg injury is not healing as expected apparently.

Yeah, in the game day thread dazbroncos said could be another 2 months away

Not a good sign to be a fracture at the same site of his former fracture and especially with it not healing as expected

After watching three weeks I'm thinking that we are not fit. That leads to a possession game with slow transition. Slow transition means low scores and ugly football.

I'm also thinking missing four of our best list players during the first three weeks, reduced interchange, shortened pre-season and the mark rule changes has made it worse.

Scraping wins under these circumstances seems ok to me. I don't think we will suffer too much from the loss of Higgins or Evans, but Constable can't be carried. We need defensive legs, not skills is my take. Until we get everyone up to speed - then we can pull the trigger on attacking football.

Having said that, I think we might cop a hiding from Melbourne next week.

Pidgeon best on ground. Havnt seen that much bravery since tom lonergan took the field.

Worst on ground was the commentators who not only defended but even cheered the punch on hawkins head. And bringing danny frawley who suffered brain damage from such hits. Boy that was terrible.

Great to hold on considering we had zero fuel in the tank with half of the quarter to go, our shorter pre-season is really evident. Guthrie played like a superstar, willed us to the win. Duncan was super rusty, it is good to see that his fitness won't hold him back. Solid effort all round, we have so much quality still to bring in. Can't get over Atkins.
Yep rusty as a knight in rusty armour, 37 rusty touches. I was there and didn't realise how much leather poisoning he suffered.

If you were at the ground the booing didn’t last long as the Geelong cheering when he had the ball was next level

That was great to hear the cheering get louder to compensate for the booing - though it may have been a little too loud in the third quarter when Smith had the ball just outside our 50m arc and I don't think he could hear the umpire call play on and he ended up up rushing his kick

I’ll admit I’m fast becoming a fan as his kicking and running is elite ...I feel incredibly dirty

Hoping Holmes pulls up ok after todays match - felt sorry for the youngster as you could see him cramping up early in the last quarter, trying to stretch it out in the middle of the ground before he was able to make his way off

It way good to see him return to the field after they, just be interesting to see how he pulls up this week

He's someone I always wanted at the club, and really wanted the club to draft him - so I'm just pretending that his time at Hawthorn didn't really exist...
