Remember that time Scott left Chappy (one of the clubs best finals performers) on the bench as the medical sub against a team who were renown for their contested footy, and then the next week Scott played him from the opening bounce against Port Adelaide in the semi final and Chappy booted 4 goals to go along with his 20 touches and 6 tackles. Including a clutch goal in the 4th quarter when Port got to within 10 points of us.

remember the time against Collingwood in a QF he rested Stanley, because he thought it was going to rain. Grundy tore us a new one.

Probably need to address my point about choking and last year if you are going to somehow prove me wrong. It seems weird to bring up something I never referred to. Happy for you to prove my actual point wrong if you can and I'll admit I was wrong. However to do that you really need to address what I said. I am happy to wait for your reply as I could be wrong but you certainly haven't shown me that yet.

Who mentioned choking? It wasn’t you and it certainly wasn’t me.

You are correct in saying that we lead Richmond during the third quarter in the 2020 grand final. We ultimately lost by 31 points.

Scott has a winning record of 37.5% in finals.
Scott has a winning record of 71.6% in the regular season.

What do you say to the above? What do you put it down to? Why do you think we have 1 premiership to show for multiple top of the ladder finishes and 8(?) top 4 finishes? Why are we 1-8 in the first round of finals since 2011? Explain it to me. If it’s not the game plan, what is it?

One of footy's truisms is that in big games you need your stars to stand up when the going gets tough. Tonight they generally didn't.

Jezz can play but I always thought we paid well overs and 6 years for a 28 y.o was a risk. It might just be that had he not left GWS he might have some silverware before he hangs 'em up. Not looking that way with us presently. Jezz might also be thinking tonight I pulled the wrong chord so to speak.

As for CS, it might just be many overrate our talent and he's done well to keep us in the mix. Can think of half a dozen who would not be in the top 8 teams' best 22.

Hopefully, Tuohy will be back and our hotshots will show something at the next outing.

The stars are starting to align for Kenny from Camperdown with another final on the PA deck probably with an even bigger crowd.

Posted when feeling despondent.:(
If Cameron is any type of competitive beast he’d be maybe looking in the mirror. He needs to get to double the contests he got to tonight. Missed an easy set shot and dropped an absolute pud 40 out when we really needed one

In desperate need of a bye? So we can lose after that desperate needed bye. Save it
Not so- we have already dealt with that issue.
We had players who are sore and overdone. Proof is in the pudding, and the pudding tonight was bitter.
Not to take anything away from Port- they are actually an awesome team.

You could argue the coach *is* responsible for the lack of mental preparation/toughness that results in choking under finals pressure (year after year after year)..

He's unquestionably responsible for selecting the team. And if you pick Gary Rohan or Mark Blicavs in a final and are surprised when they shit themselves and disappear (again), that is 100% on you as the coach for being stupid enough to do it.

But he loves his pets. Always has.

the fact he hasn’t nominated yet makes me think is he coming to a finalist and waiting for them to drop out?? Why otherwise hasn’t he nominated
agents tend to wait until the end of the season before letting this kind of stuff out. they are probably trying to do freo and solid and not limit all his options this early.

Chapman had only been back for 1 full game. He was as fresh as a fiddle. The idea he needed anot her rest is wrong. Who needs a rest after playing one game?

Chapman close to our best the week after against port with 4 goals.
Always better after a rest.

The AFL website managed to find 5 players.
And it’s extremely cringe worthy and inaccurate.

Duncan, Smith, Dangerfield, Henry, Parfitt

Yes you read that right, Dangerfield

Danger tried his guts out...and if injury rumours are correct was pretty brave as well.

Been a Cat fan since the VFL put their thinking caps on and started showing VFL in SA in 1987. Before then I was Norwood all the way and 'sort of' followed the underdogs, St Kilda, Geelong, Melbourne, Fitzroy, Footscray. Then I saw Gary Ablett play and thought 'that's the team for me'. We kicked bags of goals and challenged the mighty Hawthorn, ok, we didn't win but surely this team can win a flag, but it was not to be because West Coast were awesome and Carlton were a bunch of cheating kents.

Then came the glory years. Like everyone who suffered through the Blight era it was a case of slow train coming. I was 41 in 2007 and I was Billy Brownless on the day with a tear in the eye. In 1995 I thought my footy club was destined never to win a flag and that honour was always going to be for someone else.

And now we have the Scott era. I thought he did a good job to lift a team that lost Gary Ablett jnr to a flag. I've never subscribed to the theory that Scott was 'gifted' a flag. Here was an intelligent man who applied a light touch and 2011 was glorious. Then the stars got old, got hurt and retired. We never have replaced Ling and Ottens in particular. We missed the finals in 2015 but along came Dangerfield and happy days appeared to be on the horizon again. BUZZ...Wrong! Along came Richmond who did it better than us when it mattered...haven't we heard that before with Hawthorn, West Coast and Hawthorn again ffs?

Now Richmond have gone and Geelong have topped up again and once again we've gone in with the controlled football method and for the tenth successive year this has failed. Years ago I thought we should have dropped back and got some youth in but Chris Scott has forgotten more about football than I knew in the first place so all good...in the Cats we trust. But **** me this shit is NOT WORKING. Where is our Butters, Dursma, Rozee, Georgadies, Drew? Instead we've got guys who have played 150 games who are hurt, coming back from injury or running on fumes come September....1-8 now in the first final. We might as well not have bothered.

It just doesn't work and right now this gutted old bloke is back where he was in 1995 thinking that flags are supporters for other clubs...and when you make the top four every year that just shouldn't be happening. Rethink and yet another Scotch needed!!

Partridge!!!!!! Finally some some sense in this ocean of madness.

So was Menegola.
They've both been our worst finals performers (apart from Blitz obviously) since they got here.
Hate the loud crowds.
So they aren’t the worst if they are best in a finals series now can they? Hendo has also been played out of position After being injured late in a couple of seasons. He barely played in 2019 due to injury then they had him replace hawkins as a foward In a prelim. In 2016 against the swans he was injured late in the season and then bought back in to play foward in a prelim After being a defender all year.

blicavs is by far the worst. Never had a good series. Not sure if he has even had a good final. Been smashed by his opponent in half a dozen of them.

They might aswell do us all favour a fly back to KP and stay there
I wish Kolo would go as well. Hendo copping heat and rightfully so as he was awful. Even if Charlotte Dixon didn’t get a kick. Kolo was equally as bad. His decision making, ground balls and efforts were unacceptable. Completely.

This idea shouldn’t be mocked because it’s spot on.

People say we ‘didn’t turn up’ tonight which isn’t true and has only been true of a couple of finals under Scott (Freo 2013 and Swans 2016 prelim spring to mind).

Our general intensity and effort was on par with PA’s in Q1 and early Q2 until they broke the game open.

It’s so clear to me that the problem is largely mental shown in the shocking fumbles, dropped marks etc.

It’s almost wanting to win too much at the expense of what it actually takes to win. How often tonight did we see two defenders fly to spoil the same ball leaving one of their opponents open on the ground?

It’s dumb play, panicked play, but it sure isn’t a team not trying or not caring.

I wouldn't go so far as to say they weren't trying or that they weren't caring. But they certainly didn't turn up with the required sustained intensity to pose a real threat to Port. And the longer it went, the more our intensity dropped as their intensity surged.

Billy Ocean would have been tremendously disappointed with our boys again tonight. Because, when the going got tough, it was only Port that got going.

The number of players in our line-up who don't want the ball (or to hunt the opposition) when things get hot out there is seriously terrifying. That to me is clear evidence of a team that is not giving absolutely everything and is regularly happy to settle for the 'just not our night' excuse when it comes to finals.
