Clark made that horrible error in the late shot at goal against GWS. But hey, he got in position to have a shot and make that mistake.

If you want to keep your spot in the Geelong side just jog around in the midfield and kick it sideways.
Or do what Close does and never kick any goals :(

How good our run has been? At what, winning h&a games? Yeah and Hardwick went away and realised he needed to do some serious changing, there's a whole doco on it. Haven't seen much change in Scott since the appaling finals record began in 2012, in fact its much the same. You're honestly happy to bomb out in finals year after year?
:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Scarlett next coach though, more than likely.

I think thats what we need. A no bullshit agro bloke to fire up our guys. Scott is a manager. He manages the club and staff well and we are a professional outfit always. Unfortunately what we need is an emotional motivator. I would hope Scarlo can do that. Otherwise throw the kitchen sink at Clarko for 2023 and get it inked now.

Sorry why is it incumbent on me to explain why we can't get it up in Finals over a 10 year period again?

That's a rather convenient way to avoid answering what I said, which was "it is incumbent upon you to explain how such institutional incompetence in almost every major area is compatible with winning as many games as we do throughout the season".

Your argument that without the Foreign Legion/Dad's Army approach we wouldn't have the personnel to compete is fallacious; if we hadn't thrown our draft hands we would have had an entirely different (and younger) list to work with - who knows what we might have managed to assemble; perhaps something resembling the type of core that Wells and co. put together during the club's still-recent best-ever period.

You don't think recruitment is an issue that's fine; it is an approach I have long questioned and it has yielded us absolutely nothing in terms of success to date.

You might be able to comfort yourself by watching the first half of the 2020 GF blu-ray; just another lost final in my eyes though.

So your position is that we were inherently incapable of winning the Grand Final last year and that under no circumstances would that have been possible with the players we had?

What a bizarre argument.

I want him gone from the club. I want accountability. His game plan doesn’t win finals and is boring to watch. This has been obvious for years. Thanks for the service chris, but your time here is up.
Totally agree. If the club re-signs a *proven* finals *losing* coach it will be a major failure of leadership at the top level.

Sounds negative I know, but winning next week just wallpapers over the cracks.

No shame in being a Cats fan - regular finals / top 4 finishes. But finals are another level in terms of pressure and speed on the ball. Geelong can’t go at that level - we don’t have the players and we lack leg speed. I think we need the game on our terms and when we do (in finals) we are ok ….. but history says we are more often than not, not ok in finals.

We’ve been gallant to hang in for as many years as we have. Credit to everyone - coach included. But it’s time for a reset. Enjoy the journey … and be thankful we don’t follow basket case clubs like Carlton.

Stick with em. Our turn will come and it will be a fun ride as always.

Oh, and if Henderson plays next week I’m checking myself into a “facility”.

What are you going to say if somehow we get into a GF again?
I agree it's near impossible, but who knows if there was some gastro thing through the club.
If we are truly banged up, it doesn't matter who coaches next year, we are unlikely to make top 4

Sorry to say but Miers is fast becoming my most disliked player in our side, Menegola has had that title pretty comfortably for years now but Miers is closing the gap, just offers nothing when not kicking goals
and it seemed to be one of his strengths early on

What a bizarre argument.

We didn't win the GF last year, and we were lucky that we ran into a Collingwood side that was absolutely cooked the week prior.

And yes; we didn't have the type of daring game plan/style that would have allowed us to win the game when it was on the line. Happened last week in a big game against quality opposition too; opened up a lead then sat back and tried to protect that lead.

How long do you continue to back in the same lame horse?

I find it bizarre that you think Chris Scott's coaching record isn't worthy of scrutiny.

What if he was flat after the knock with JC, and he fully recovers by next week, and helps us win?
Many have said how good he has been this year.

We are an old team with old legs and it's been a long season. The petrol tank is on empty.

The loss against the GWS, the get out of jail win against the Saints, the last quarter brain fade against the demons are all indicators of this. Surely people didn't buy into the "saving ourselves for next week excuse" after the demons last quarter

I feel that it goes beyond age. If you think what makes Geelong Geelong is currently battling. Its our dynamic Inside mid group (Danger Guthrie Selwood) Our classy outside ball use (Duncan, Tuohy, Smith, Stewart) and our three headed hydra of a forward-line (Hawkins, Cameron and Rohan)

How many of the players I've named are missing or coming in underdone or carrying something from earlier in the season.

It is up to Scott to find the phase of football that we can play and win and find a way to keep it on those terms next week with what we have on hand. We have options

Recruiting older players hasn't been the problem, a lot of them have been good.

Blindly and obviously favouring them (and other battlers like Blicavs, Kolo, etc) for selection time and again over younger players has been the problem.
I think I agree with this. Would probably galvanise the group a little more if the likes of Close knew that both he and Hawkins were being judged to the same standards. There isn't a healthy amount of equity for spots on our list. Higgins/Stevens/Dahlhaus/Kolo are proof of this.

You don't feel like dumping DeKoning, Krueger and Evans into a do-or-die Semi is a bit unfair?

I’m seeing it as giving them a bit of experience in a big game. We might be out of finals for a few years now. Give them a taste. Henderson and Kolo have proven time and again that they aren’t up to it. Try something new.

Part of the problem, I think, is blokes like Blicavs and Kolo have low ceilings which they have reached. They are serviceable players for sure, but close your eyes and envision them playing a breakout final? Hmmmm.

And so, you can't really drop them and tell them to improve in the twos can you? If anything it might just shatter what little confidence they have.

I think all we can do is coach the team to be better when they have the ball, that is, provide a running option early and tell them to take it.

This is what happens when you REWARD MEDIOCRITY. So many of us in this forum have observed that very average older players are a protected species while promising younger players are not persevered with. Don't tell me Clark et al won't come good: there are dozens of players across the comp playing good football who took time - there are several examples at St. Kilda and Essendon.

And who gives a shit if we don't play finals every year if last night is the result?

We need more young talent but our first pick this year is 30!

Our game plan is consistently found wanting. Fine for the home and away season but when immense pressure comes it crumble. Port closed down the sideways kick and yet we just kept looking for it. And if no lateral option is on so many of our players have no idea what to do. It doesn't help that we are a constantly flat footed forward of the ball too. Everyone is either floating a general area or jogging sideways. Never anyone leading at the ball carrier.

Honestly kudos to Scott the boring stagnant control footy has kept an average team up the top of the ladder for years but it doesn't get the job done in finals. Chris Scott is basically Ross Lyon to be honest and he will leave us in the same state Ross left St Kilda and Fremantle.

And when I say an average team that's exactly what we are. Sure we have a few stars in Hawkins, Cameron, Stewart, Duncan, Selwood, Henry and Dangerfield (who chokes in finals anyway). But look at the glaring weaknesses, Stanley in the ruck has ability but is inconsistent and unreliable as they come and small forwards whos only function is "pressure" but basically pose no threat in front of goals.

Can we fix this? I'm not confident but Rohan to half back was a positive move to give some genuine dash and penetration off half back. I hope we persist with this even if his lack of defensive experience costs a few goals. Touhy needs to come back and play wing. His ability to kick goals is vital to making up for our lack of damaging small forwards.

We also need to show we have another string to our bow. Teams will shut down the switch and the lateral movement. We need to find a way to pick holes and move the ball forward cleanly without going backwards. Last night 3-4 times we got the ball at half forward. Nothing was on so we chip backwards, sideways, sideways and back to half forward only to turn it over and see the ball zipped up the other end for a scoring opportunity. Lead, block, create space for one another our forwards need to work for each other more and if the oppo defense is all over us its still better to bomb it deep in to our 50 AS LONG AS ITS TO OUR ADVANTAGE and our forwards create a contest and stoppage. If Hawk and Jez can't contest bring back Esava.

Clark and Evans should come into the conversation too. Clarks last game was a nightmare but the kid is a great user of the ball and can kick goals. Evans from the little I've seen of him looked play a lot like Chapman. Would love to see more of what he can offer.

Anyway I've got my rant out of my system now so GO CATS. It isn't over til its over.

We should have been cycling through the list throughout the H&A season a bit more, getting games into our likeliest youngsters. But apparently it was critical to persist with the likes of Dahlhaus and Kolodjashnij because, roles.

Whereas going with the same old formula isn’t?!!! 🤣🤣
It's not called a second chance for nothing.
The MC knows what works for us, and where our players are at.
This stage last year, we lost to Port and were able to bounce back.
If we get smashed next week, clearly questions will need answers.

Why wouldn't Henderson play next week?

There is shame in being a Cats fan - it's kind of a torment and yet we'd be laughed at for thinking that way. People say things like we're lucky we're not Carlton supporters and yes thats fairly accurate, but it is still torture watching your team do so well for most of the year to fall away when it counts.

A lot of melts on here for a game where people chase around a piece of leather… or that’s how my wife describes me during a game. I get the frustration with the cats not stepping up a level in the finals, but it is just a game after all… not life or death. And we’re still in it.

We didn't play Collingwood in a prelim..
