Matt Crouch demonstrated exactly what I've said about him the entire time - he's nowhere near as important as any of you think he is, because his performances are largely independent of our results.

Funnily enough, Brad Crouch did the same to, by being out with injury, yet again.

All pure inside midfielders are like that as their job isn't reliant on anyone else in the team (Thompson was the exact same, Priddis was, Cripps is, Tom Mitchell is etc). He is the first in the chain in any play from stoppages.

If he has big numbers (34d 8 clearances are big numbers) and the chain has broken down, the issue is elsewhere, not the inside midfielder. He becomes overrated if he doesn't hit those big games on the regular, which currently, Matt Crouch has been hitting those big games.

Yeah but do you have the same “confidence” in the team as last season? When we lost to North last year I saw it as an anomaly. The losses to Essendon, Pies and now Melbourne are a pattern.

amazing that our coaches who get paid a lot of money, were humiliated in the GF last year, continue to play DMAC.
It really is incredible.

They play him because we have no ball carriers, it's so bad that we have to play him in defence as even in defence we lack rebound defenders. I am not anti Mackay as he need to be in a running side with a team of runners around him to link up much like Melbourne, playing on wing not in defence. As for new players that have no long term future. Poholke( has no attributes that scream AFL player lucky if he becomes a good SANFL player) . Everyone's sentimental favourite on here Greenwood ( tries hard putting his body on the line but skills are atrocious, can't reflex handball or see what's around him in traffic and just throws ball onto foot whether it's congested or the right time to do so, and once again can't run with ball in hand which a modern day mid needs to do). Galluci has some attributes IE speed but poor disposal and seems like he's running around like a headless chook at times.

He's not and never will be the star, match winning midfielder, because his lack of everything else means his job is to get the ball out and give it to them, and him winning plaudits and awards is a strong indication of the problem. It also meant we were locked into a game style that wasn't working and we couldn't change, no versatility considering we are missing Tex and McGovern, I think otten could have been used to at least change structures at half time if nothing else.

Instead we just continued on with the same crap for 4 qtrs and got what we deserved.

Oh, and Hartigan had a shocker. Cost us about 7 when the ball was getting pumped in. Bloke can not handle pressure. Still we persist.
