Since the rise of fantasy and supercoach money.
One of my pet hates is talking footy with people and told player x had a bad game due to lack of points, when the eye test tells me opposite.

Especially defenders.

If you don't think CC and Smith aren't 2 of our most important players you are high Vader

Line breaking metres gained fast ball moving players ... when they get ball we get fast I50s and we kick goals in a hurry

Bonus is CC applies manic pressure that is unparalleled... CC and Gov are the 2 players that will win us a flag on their day and smith not far behind as long as our midfield stays solid

Smith might have clangers but his I50s end up in more goals that nearly any other player in league . Stop smith stop crows as sando told everyone
Who said that I don't think they're important?

CC has improved massively, and everything you say about him is true. Also true is the fact that his feet are faster than his brain, and that his lightning runs end badly more often than not as a result. Both are true.

Smith has a weapon with his kicking, but it would be far more effective if he didn't hit so many opposition targets.

Hampton - pretty elite defensive numbers to me if we're talking stats

Thanks MRB37

'His numbers this year were

VS GWS: 12 pa, 6 tackles (equal 2nd game high for tackles)
VS Haw: 30 pa, 10 tackles (3rd best for Crows in PA, 2nd in game tackles)
VS Port: 29 pa, 9 tackles (2nd best game pa, best Crows pa, equal game high tackles)
VS Ess: 36 pa, 3 tackles (game high pa, 12 more than the best Bomber) '

Don't really get all the hate for Hampton. He doesn't get heap of the ball but when he does he generally does something good with it and his tackling and defensive pressure is among the best we have. Yes it'd be nice if he could get a bit more of the ball but he does enough without the ball in hand to justify his spot in the side.

Yeah fair enough

But in regards to Smith - he obviously has a licence as he should to go for riskier kicks because he really opens up the game when they come off

He's always going to have more clangers due to this , you need to weigh that up vs his score involvement numbers

Milera just not looking that comfortable at the moment. I think like early Charlie era, we just gotta give him some time. I agree Atkins and Knight at the moment have to do more defensively. The bombers midfield really showed us how it's done despite the scoreboard.

I'm more critical of Menzel the Man Bun. He gives defensive pressure inside the forward 50 to a certain extent, but I don't think he has polish, speed or composure. Missed marks in the 50 and not as reliable kick as I would like to think (DE - 55% tonight), so I'm yet to be convinced as to why he makes the 22 from the two performances thus far. Maybe someone else can enlighten me though cos I didn't see the pre-season.

Yes Menzel. For want of a better description he needs to 'ground his game'.......floats around somewhat.

Just watching the game for the first time, half time and we've kicked more than Port did in their whole game without two of our best tall forwards.
Charlie Cameron off the rookie list is looking to be one of the picks of the century. I hope Port supporters are watching his game and seeing what a hard nut he is.

Oh your right. It's all those clinch goals he has been kicking each week that make up for it.
Maybe he is playing a non statistical role each week, as a midfielder. Or maybe he was doing a tagging role?
Please.
How many blokes do you think can have 25-35 possessions in a game off football ?

It's not a non- statistical role because his pressure and tackling stats are off the charts - it's a very statistical role

And short memories - how poor and one way has our midfield been and how many I50s have we leaked over the years due to letting opposition waltz through our midfield

Finally we have a couple of guys that are doing what we need defensively in our midfield and it makes s massive difference

Were you using those points to defend Wright and Pets?
He is a midfielder who needs to get the ball and clear it. How are his clearance numbers?

Such a difference.. .we're outside the top 8 for scores against.

Our defense is still terrible.

In case you don't want to look up his clearance numbers he has been averaging 1.8 per game.
That's poor.

Think it's more difficult to keep scores down with the pace that we play most of the game at.

Though I do think there are times, especially evident in that 3rd quarter where we should try and slow the game down a bit and just try and take control of it a bit more, rather than launching (or attempting to launch) a full on assault every time we get the ball.
