I haven't seen him kick a ball more than 20 metres this season.

In any case, even outside players need to go when it's their turn. Even DMac does that. Squibbing a marking contest is not on the outside mids job spec, nor is lack of defensive pressure. IMO he needs to go back to the SANFL with those two kpis firmly on his agenda.
He kicked an absolute gem to menzel who kicked the Goal. It was a 35 meter pass that was just perfect.

The only reason he's in the 22 is because Gov is injured. The man bun symbolizes his game right now - a bit soft and pretentious, a bit too much ego for what he's delivering, still looks like he belongs at Carlton. Theres some Centrals mongrel in there somewhere, he'd do well to tap into a bit of that before he finds himself back there permanently.

More hype than Kim Jong

I think Milera had his best game since round 1.
Thought DMac was back to pretty average.

Yeah DMac dropped a lot of easier marks, couldn't break some one handed tackles, and got taken down on many occasions. He made a lot of blunders with ball in hand.

Milera was better than DMac, but like a few have said he needs to back himself in more and use his weapons to exploit his opponents. He needs the hard word put on him but I'm hoping this year for him can be like Charlie a couple years ago where we persisted with a few bad performances, but by the end of the year was well entrenched in the best 22

First half good
Second half bad

Tealster standing near us talking about how they beat GWS was ugly.

I reckon He had a few too many at the Cas/pub watching most of his game.

I say ugly. But was actually pretty funny. Especially once he realised they had lost.

Port board reckon they would've beaten both us and GWS if they'd kicked straight lol. Never mentions all the misses by us and GWS though.......

i'd sit him for a week, he was a passenger who sat back and didn't involve or try to impose himself.

he's got a lot of tools but needs to develop the discipline to apply them and himself
It depends whether you think sitting him for a week or backing him in is better for his development. Depends on Milera's mindset really, which we, as supporters, have no clue about.

Hopefully the club makes the right call

We had a big game last week, I don't mind we took the second half off to give ourselves a bit of bruise-free time

Hoping that's what the issue was. Port died in the ass after three quarters so maybe both teams were stuffed and mentally drained. Reckon this is quite likely.

Good way to compare apples with combine harvesters.

He's 24, had effectively a year off through injury, is playing under a new system at AFL level and is a totally different player to Riley Knight.

Knight is an elite gut running endurance beast who wills himself to contests and does everything neat and tidy skills wise. Hampton is a tall, bullish midfielder with a burst of pace, exceptional sidestep and an eye for the contest and the rare ability to turn momentum with one touch of the football.

Hampton's ceiling is higher than Knight's and I'm a huge fan of Knight. Both should be best 22 anyway so I'm unsure of what you're getting at?
Knight also had last year pretty much ruined due to injury.
If you think Hampton is going to be elite you are kidding yourself.
Hampton has been in the Afl system for 6 years and failed to take the next step.

Don't care about his mindset in that if he thinks it should handed to him I'd sit him 3x as long

I expect he'll be mature enough to take on board feedback and targets

Couldn't focus on the 3rd quarter cause I was too drunk and tired to focus, then fell asleep and missed the last.

The first half was probably the best football we've played since the 2006 game v Essendon. The chemistry they have together, the speed and x factor that is produced and the firepower even without JJ and McLovin was staggering. Defensively they still have a way to go to prevent easy goals but by golly a team is going to have kick a massive score to beat us.

Essendon aren't terrible and we bltizkrieged them in one quarter. Game over. I'm not fussed about the 3rd, they're only human and clearly the coaches got them switched on again in the last. Could easily score 200 points this year if a team really lies down and we stay focused.

I'm more getting at what situation would give him the most confidence. If backing him in gives him the confidence to improve on his deficiencies, do it. If sitting him makes him more determined to work on his flaws, do it.

Actually I suspect Essendon might be terrible

Smith was largely good, but he made a few howlers. Hence my "a bit hot and cold, but mostly hot" comment.

Net very positive for the match

I felt Laird was the same in the first half. So many howlers... but by god he made up for it in the second!

Look he puts on some ok pressure.. but to say the best in the AFL is absurd.
I'm just going on stats and he's been one of the best in the AFL this year

Trying to bring back some balance to the argument . It's not all about disposals and this is coming from a big Hampton to midfield critic in pre season so I'm no fan boy

No shortage of players who were better than Smith tonight. Sloane, Jacobs, CC, Betts, Walker, Crouch, Laird, Atkins, and Douglas. Tempted to add Lynch to that list.

Smith was definitely better than Mackay, Menzel, Hampton, Brown, Milera, and Hartigan.

He was roughly in the middle of the pack, when it comes to the best players. Not close to the top 5, but nowhere near the bottom 5 either.

Anyone who says otherwise is blinded by the stats. 33 disposals looks good on paper. Unfortunately, he was something of a turnover merchant. His short game was good, and his defensive work was much better than normal - but his long game, which is what he's noted for, was horrendous.

Blinded by stats?

That opinion is just moronic and ironic. I was at the game, behind the goals and watched Smith set us up a lot through the night. Sure he had a couple of howlers, but 2 of them were not his fault. the 2 that were not his fault, 1 of them he got the ball when he shouldn't have (a handball from a team mate that should never have gone to him) and the other he had no one moving for him and had to kick with his left from near the goal line

Over 700 metres gained is elite. I swear sometimes you just try to have a different opinion for the sake of being different and getting people to respond

Also never mind that they had less scoring shots, so even if both sides kicked at the same accuracy they would have lost, same as last week.

But yeah I guess theoretically they're right. If you kick all goals and no points you'd win every week.
