I don’t mind that. But I’m sure it would throw up dodgy calls.

They need super slow mo HD cameras and probably a couple more angles. Until then it’s always going to be a bit of a s**t show.

Not really. Because the onus is always just to prove it isnt a goal. By only sometimes doing that and sometimes having to prove it wasn't a point is the inconsistency. The AFL probably took it from Cricket LBW and the players think its a joke and dont think its a fair system.

I honestly didn’t see it watching on TV, let alone how hard it would be to spot as an umpire. It was probably there, but Elliot also collected ball and that’s likely why it wasn’t paid. I also didn’t think the Rankine goal attempt was conclusive. The 50 was the frustrating decision, as there were other instances of it in the game they didn’t pay to either side.

Honestly what’s more farcical than todays umpiring is the fixture we’ve received this season. Has anyone personally asked Tim Silvers here for his thoughts about our “away” fixtures? If we get a draw like this next season something needs to be said about it publicly if we haven’t already this season. No games in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth or Brisbane until the end of June is an absolute farce.
I sat with a Collingwood mate.

He started laughing when I told him we hadn't played in Melbourne until Round 15 as he thought I was joking.

2024 demands
Play in Melbourne in the first 5 rounds
Play minimum 3 games at MCG
No Geelong
No Ballarat
Max 1 of Darwin or Launceston
No Perth in Round 24 (despite WC being rubbish)

Ok mum.

We’ve lost a crucial game which would have been huge for our club, identifying the weakness in our list is pretty important I would have thought.
We need to draft a few umpires to our side in the off season......

That'll even things out a bit through the midfield... and in our f50.

Our first half was disgraceful.
Actually that speaks volumes. Same as the first time we played them. If we could string together 4 good quarters, we’d be a fairly frightening opponent. I know we are still a young side, but no more excuses. That first half cost us the game!

I'll go out on a limb and say Collingwood are overrated. Yes they are a very good team and more likely to win the premiership than any other, but I think they are flattered by:

1. Not travelling very often away from their precious MCG, never get sent to shit hole grounds; and have the psychological advantage of knowing finals and the grand final are locked into their home ground

2. The media circle-jerk

3. Their last-quarter comebacks. Yes their comebacks are largely due to merit rather than luck. But some luck is involved, and why the **** does this supposedly fantastic side keep ending up behind in the fourth quarter? Why wait until then? One day the comeback won't come off - it's a matter of when.

You could also reverse it and say that Collingwood were lucky to escape with the win after a pathetic 3rd quarter
Could you? We had 6 scoring shots. What did they have during the stretch you mentioned?

We will finish top 2. Not sure the vfl would like that.

This is true, though unlike last season they are actually winning games by quite a bit at times as well. Best percentage in the AFL, whereas in 2022 they finished top four with 104.3%. Feels like last year they were a decent side with an amazing ability to close out tight games. This year they still have that ability but are more well-rounded and dangerous overall. Just missing a dominant key forward.

Collingwood also have some key injuries/suspensions. Add De Goey and Sidebottom to that side and I don't know if we get within a kick.

Umpires didn't have an impact on the result imo. They missed a few Collingwood frees as well. Anyone notice Rankine's throw in the last?
Was that the one where the player on the mark was interfering before play on was called?

This was the first game I've been to since the away win vs Sydney in 2019. 3 things I noticed at the ground.
  1. Had no idea what the controversial incidents were until after the match.
  2. Collingwood players in midfield rarerly waste effort providing or using a bailout option. supporting players run forward for aggressive high-risk handball chains or the player under pressure will hack-kick it forward immediately rather than offload the problem to someone else with a defensive handball. They're incredibly in sync with this. Some individual Crows seemed to notice this in the 3rd quarter and this was enough to turn the tide momentarily, but I never felt there was a team response.
  3. This may just be because it was a Collingwood home game (and Melbourne's public transport issues this weekend), but Crows fan representation at the MCG is lower than I've ever seen.

The problem with the umpires is that they are scared to give a contentious free against Collingwood fans. I can understand that but when there is a blatant free to us and they still don't give it that means they are influencing the game. Surely these maggots have no conscience that they think they can get away with cheating a side out of a win.
