Nicks walked into that press conference to bag the players and that's pretty disappointing. He should have backed them in. To me his defensive nature suggests he isnt great on reflecting on his coaching. Its one thing when the side is a top 4 side and loses, to bag the players but to do it in this circumstance was kind of lousy. Bet thats going to further win the players over.

How on earth can he bag the players when he continues setting them up to fail

Why would you drop that last bit if you’re not going to say what was said?
Sorry, I’d intended to follow it up with details, but got a FaceTime with my boys who are in Europe at the moment, and now I’m in bed after a big day. I’ll write up a review tomorrow.

Watched the game at the pub so not as closely as a home game or on the couch at home but....

It seemed we got what we deserved playing Crouch, McSpudley, Murphy. Why oh why.

Do we have still have numpties on here that think we don't play Dawson in the backlines? We can see what he does when he is on the wing/centre of forward but Nicks still thinks his best spot is HBF. Absurd.

Even the biggest Nicks Fanbois must be thinking "maybe he's not the man"

Jesus, I love a good melt as much as the next guy, but potting an 18 year old kid in his first season for being “timid”? Kids barely getting his feet wet at the level and we’re already trading him out. Come on, we’re better than that.

And the kid played maybe 10 games in under 18’s due to a Covid.
We have some fully fledged knuckleheads on this forum.

When I heard last match, Roo saying Schoenberg was sent back to the 2s because he wasn't chasing opposition players...yet Crouch was playing...

No problem with this - we need the next generation to learn to be better than what we currently have. And developing that is more important than winning at the moment

Positive: Soligo and Fog

It’s makes me sick how we never change our team. Where automatic selections are McHenry etc
That might be true but I didnt mind Neds game today. Every week he is aggressive and puts his body on the line. I agree that at times his skills leave a bit to be desired but I wish every player on the team played with his intensity.

One thing that I found myself saying was Smith is just not the same player that he used to be.

Seriously how long does McHenry get a free ride? He is so bad it’s depressing. No football brain, no goal sense and can’t kick.

Ogilvie seriously needs to * off

I remember on the draft night coverage, one of the commentators (Nat?) saying how much Crows fans were going to love this kid and how he goes about it

That comment has not aged well

Good
Parnell
- Went passed 3.5 years of Chayce Jones in 2 games
Soligo - Gone past Sholl in 5 games
Berry - Think he's going to be the our best mid in 3 years, hell he was our best today. Is smart around stoppage, would often run and carry at the front of stoppage instead of jamming it on the boot. Hes tracking like Serong in his first and second year.
Dawson - Outrageously good, need to clone him for HF, Wing and HB. Did catch the fumbles late from Doedee and Smith...
Fog - Needs to do it for 4 quarters but showing signs of what he can be more often.

Bad
Skills
- Doedee and Smith.
Crouch - I cant anymore
Keays - He's been well off his first month of form, fumbly today.
Hamil - I'm sorry but 5 disposals at this point is unacceptable. A good 5 disposals but this is getting tiring.
Murrary - Not the solution. Find another KPD in the draft. Is Borlase ready?

Thanks what a pathetic bunch of questions and Nicks is deluded if he thinks we are ahead of where we were last year. Whose developed? Berry and some newbies, Soligo and Rachelle. McHenry, Jones, Sholl and Shoenberg have gone backwards. Pedlar hasn’t come on. It’s turning out to be wasted year for TT. Worrell hasn’t even had a chance. McAsey has played a good sanfl game.

Our gameplan has gone backwards.

Nicks is an idiot.

Could it be?

Nick is John Who? 😱

i dont mind it in this instance. the players doing those horrible turnovers were senior players. smith, doedee, dawson (although he did much better work upfield hint hint). sometimes players do need a bit of a bake, and senior players should and can cop it when they have played badly. im sure we're gonna cop a week or the senior players telling us how disappointing their game was and how they will 'bounce back' against the roos.

The entire story of the game:

Gold Coasts top 3 midfielders in Anderson, Rowell, Miller combined for 71 disposals (48 kicks, 23 handballs) 8 clangers and 20 inside 50's.

Adelaides top 3 midfielders in Laird, Keays, Crouch combined for 100 disposals (35 kicks, 65 handballs) 24 clangers and 5 inside 50's.

heck

He was cooked last year, but still capable of kicking it long so few sore it. I remember pointing this out last year, and "Stat Analysts" said I was wrong due to his metres gained.

That is gone now.

Jones should be playing his role.

Jones and Hinge must surely be selected already for next week.
Take your pick of dropping two of Smith, Hamill and Doedee.

I can also see Rachele playing SANFL until he gets his mojo back.

Crouch...put the fork in. He's done!

Keays is an awful leader.
Keays is an awful player.. has been absolute garbage for weeks now and yet only a few in here dare to speak up about it.

Seriously, its like watching an energizer bunny thats lost control of its body just running around wildly handballing and kicking and bumping into other players..

So erratic.. so unpredictable.. so poorly skilled.. so flipping useless.

The story of how he “resurrected” his career is great.. and I have massive respect for the amount of effort he puts in.. but..

Time to put back him down into a league that suits his skills.. the sanfl.. and thats actually an insult to many SANFL players who have far superior skills than Ben.

Time to move on as we wont be going anywhere with him as one of our main midfielders and we have too many young players with far better skills than him that we cannot afford to shunt just to accomodate Ben and find him another position.

Nicks, in his presser:
"We lost that game of footy. We handed that game ... to the opposition. They kicked 13.7 from intercepts. 13 goals seven, of which seven were front and centre ...".
Nicks also talked about mistakes at both ends of the ground ie giving up easy goals and missing goals which were "lay-ups".

My take is the players are confused:
--- by selections
--- by ad hoc, week-to-week game plans ("This week, let's try this ...") and
--- by being played out of position to accommodate poorly-performing seniors.

The +80-odd handball count is telling. The Suns got the job done with 80-odd fewer handballs than us.
The Crows are playing get-rid-of-the-hot-potato and, worse, Nicks is not taking responsibility for the mess.
