Keays is an awful player.. has been absolute garbage for weeks now and yet only a few in here dare to speak up about it.

Seriously, its like watching an energizer bunny thats lost control of its body just running around wildly handballing and kicking and bumping into other players..

So erratic.. so unpredictable.. so poorly skilled.. so f*n useless.

The story of how he “resurrected” his career is great.. and I have massive respect for the amount of effort he puts in.. but..

Time to put back him down into a league that suits his skills.. the sanfl.. and thats actually an insult to many SANFL players who have far superior skills than Ben.

Time to move on as we wont be going anywhere with him as one of our main midfielders and we have too many young players with far better skills than him that we cannot afford to shunt just to accomodate Ben and find him another position.
100%.
Massive trier, not quite good enough.

Just listened to the cast, and I am horrified by those midfield stats.
7.5m gained per possesion between laird and crouch (and no better if you add in Keays).
Our midfield is putrid.

We MUST get Berry, Hately and Harry in there for some quality minutes and CBAs, with Dawson/Soligo/Rachele having spurts in there too. Hell, give Chayce some cracks in there if he comes back in and tell him to RUN.

Heat needs to come on Nicks for this putrid coaching and man-management.

Seriously?
Richmond were going nowhere under Hardwick and they had a better list than ours. Next thing…

My point is this board is way too quick to write off players/coaches etc. Then again he could turn out like Mark Nield…

The entire story of the game:

Gold Coasts top 3 midfielders in Anderson, Rowell, Miller combined for 71 disposals (48 kicks, 23 handballs) 8 clangers and 20 inside 50's.

Adelaides top 3 midfielders in Laird, Keays, Crouch combined for 100 disposals (35 kicks, 65 handballs) 24 clangers and 5 inside 50's.
This just shows how silly it is to look at some random stats.

Bottom line is our midfield trio had 100 possessions. Theirs had 71. We won.
Great job VB. Great job team. Ticks and back slaps all around.

Horne has been pretty good in a terrible team. He is probably their best player. I think he is tanking his value to get out of there. I think we need to find out if he is interested in playing for us. If he isn't that's the end of it. The other player I would go after is Dunkley if he wants to come to SA.

I hope he's tanking to get to us lol.
Thoroughly acceptable behaviour if he is lol.

I think what nicks was articulating was that had we not given them 4 goals outright from horrendous skill errors in defense under no pressure and not missed a bunch of simple shots at goal, we could have won the game.
This could relate to almost every game we've lost this year. Competitive most of the time and then all it takes is one or two brain farts per quarter which leads to a goal against and equates to a 4-6 goal deficit across an entire game, the missed set shots that give the ball back to the oppo, ruins any momentum we might have had, saps confidence and that spreads throughout the team and ruins the rest of our game.

But yesterday! Gold Coast are not a great team, and considering how badly the Crows played, and the leg up GC had with some hometown fairytale umpiring, the last 5 minute Crow's capitulation spared Gold Coast the embarrassment of winning by only 2 or three goals to a team that was completely garbage and off the boil.

That game was entirely winnable. Apart from a couple of bright moments with Fog and....yeah, I'm trying to remember some more bright patches....our performance was sour all match. The skill level was laughably bad at times. The entire team was down on intensity and level of give-a-shit. The selection, the game plan going in, the game day coaching, the lethargic and hapless performance of the players - everything was horrible.

How many times did we get Jo-the-goosed? The perfect indication of how bad our coaching strategy is, and how unaccountable our players were.

I think they are terrified that instead of losing by 40 points they may lose by 60 points if they give Berry, hately and harry more mid minutes over keays/laird/crouch..

But

1) I actually dont think that this would be the case..

And

2) even if it was the case, I wouldnt care.. at this point I’d rather watch us lose by 60 points instead of 40 as long as we played the younger lads a hell of a lot more in the midfield/CB’s.. giving them that experience and allowing them to grow into the role we drafted them for.

What we are currently doing is selling out our future so we can keep keays/laird/crouch in, I think in the hope that it means we dont lose by big margins. Which is sheer lunacy..

Loved what someone wrote in the gameday thread yesterday during the game…

“We are playing a game of hot potato with the football”

To which someone responded with..

“All started by the three spuds in the centre”

It summed it all up very nicely.

Absolutely this is what I am thinking Nicks and co are thinking. They would say in answer to the midfield stats posted around these boards on GC 3 mids v our 3 mids 'well we got our hands on it 100 times to their 78. If we had run a younger crew in there, maybe they had 100 touches and then did far more damage and we get beaten by a lot more'

It could well be that Nicks has started the self preservation mode of coaching?

Do we have the worst leadership group in the AFL
Not one senior player stood up
It still feels like Tex is the captain of this club when you watch games. He's the one I consistently see leading by example, on field coaching his position group, protecting his teammates, celebrating his young teammates achievements, and being is unselfish to a fault. All traits of an AFL captain.

He'll never be captain again for obvious reasons. But you watch the players around him and how they respond to him compared to the others in the leadership group, and its chalk and cheese!

He’s two and a half years in and there has literally been no improvement..

We will end up bottom 5 for the third year in a row.. if we were looking at a finish around 9th or 10th it would be different.

He’s definitely in preservation mode.. absolutely shitting himself I’d say and the first sight of that is him blaming the players..

I dont think the crows have ever held onto a coach that hasnt made the finals two years in a row have they?..

I cant recall ever seeing a team literally play “pass the parcel” with the football, desperately handballing like it was on fire to their team mates all within a 20m radius sized circle like we saw yesterday.. and it didnt just happen once.. it happened numerous times.

Thats on the coaching staff.

You hear Nicksy constantly say “we play a high contested possession type game.. thats what we excel at”…

Bullshit Nicksy, we certainly don’t excel at it at all.. and the main reason the team has to constantly play a highly contested game is because they fluff around with the footy, pointlessly over handballing it, so much it allows their opponents ample opportunity to constantly close in on them.. and thus make it a in tight highly contested game..

This is ugly and needs to be placed at the feet of those responsible. This means the senior coach, midfield coach and midfield players.

Can someone please leak this to media. Public pressure should help in making changes.
Julian Assange, we need you!

Happy for someone to send it to the club. You are the fourth person to request I email them.

This! x 100

Also, I think your hunch that it would not happen that way is correct ie rotating Berry/Hately through the midfield, hell, even Murphy and Ned if they have to be picked would be more productive than the Crouch/Laird/ Keays combo.

Berry was very good yesterday; imagine what would have happened without Berry and Dawson in the side :grimacing:
<shudder>.

Send that in an email to every person at the AFC.
Pointless..

it will be ignored and treated with the same disdain the stupid “lets read out some unflattering tweets our supporters have written and make a complete joke of them” garbage the club pulled the other day..

Needs to go to the media.. with a “please explain why you media hacks aren’t holding Nicksy and his coaching staff to account over these disgusting stats?”..

Need a bigfooty AFL accredited journo

I still think the re-selection of Crouch was bought on by the angst from senior players
So Nicks caved in so he didn't upset them and get them offside

Think the senior players were shitting bricks because if one senior player goes out, it means they can go out as well. Think they call it self preservation.

There was one passage of play that confirms everything you wrote.

Keays had the ball and was running, with an oppo player on his tail. He handballs to a Crows player who was actually running forward as well. It hit the player ... very good I was thinking. All Keays had to do was shepherd and the new player could have had a bit of a run and hit a target up the field.

But no, Keays ignores his defensive duty to protect the player with the ball, keeps running and demands the handball back. Receives it .... gets tackled .... we turnover the ball.

Was one of the dumbest plays from the game. There was no need for Keays to keep running to give a handball option.
