With 5 centre clearances, Sam Berry provided more than Laird, Keays and Crouch combined (4).

How can our coaches not see it?

I’ve said for quite awhile, they actually need a supporter in the coaching box providing comments like “can you lot see what I see?”.

There was one passage of play that confirms everything you wrote.

Keays had the ball and was running, with an oppo player on his tail. He handballs to a Crows player who was actually running forward as well. It hit the player ... very good I was thinking. All Keays had to do was shepherd and the new player could have had a bit of a run and hit a target up the field.

But no, Keays ignores his defensive duty to protect the player with the ball, keeps running and demands the handball back. Receives it .... gets tackled .... we turnover the ball.

Was one of the dumbest plays from the game. There was no need for Keays to keep running to give a handball option.

That comes to it being all about them and not the team.

It is why you have the 3 stooges with 30+ possessions each regularly. They want that gold jacket at the end of the year.

How can’t a KPI for midfielders be “x” number of inside 50’s per “x” number of disposals be imposed. Same goes for clearances, clangers etc. Get them to think about the game they are playing.

Was Rowe playing wing or midfield at times yesterday? I haven't seen his heatmap but it didn't feel like he was getting many of his 24 disposals all that close to goal.

I think that was confirmed when he bought back Crouch even though Hately was going okay. That was poor even by his conservative selection standards.

The coach better make sure he is in control of the match committee and that he brings in new midfielders (and goal kickers).
We have already lost an A grader in Lyons because we preferenced the Crouches. The supporter base will not forgive this mistake happening again. Berry blitzed Rowell and Anderson in the third quarter. Hateley was great when playing in the middle a few weeks back - but they preferred Crouch over Hateley - sound familiar.
Are the coaches blind?
Crouch should not play seniors again - just used as break glass emergency.
Jones, Schoenberg and Cook should be in the side with Pedlar on their heels.
I’m pretty pissed off. If the club doesn’t sort this out I’m not sure I’ll be renewing the membership I’ve had since the move to Adelaide Oval.

I think shepherding is a thing of the past. All (crows) players these days prefer to move themselves into space for a handball back, than to protect the free player.

I reckon I notice it at least 10-15 times a game that a crows player applying an effective shepherd would've cleared the way for the ball carrier to take off.

Benny also irritated me in the 3rd quarter, FOG pressured a Suns player who turned over the footy, we got the ball back in our I50 and it handball chained out to Keays who then burned Fog with an easy handball that would have put Darcy on his correct side running an arch towards goal (would have been a tough shot, but still a clearly kickable shot on goal from 40ish out).

Instead he kept the pill and then realized he had no left foot, and proceeded to burn the footy with a pressured snap on his right that hit Rachele in the back. But even if it didn't, it wouldn't have gone 15m.

Just dumb selfish footy. I wish I could say its the first time i've seen Ben burn better kicks then him, but unfortunately that's turning into a bit of a hallmark of his game.

There were a couple of moments from both Keays / McHenry where their lack of opposite foot resulted in a turnover.

Its 2022. Other teams know its a weakness and constantly push Keays onto his non preferred, which results in him rushing a kick too early or causing a turnover.

I don't know, I like the one when he picks it up 40 out, instead of handballing it to a player who might have had a shot on goal, he wheels around on to his preferred leg and proceeds to kick into a teammate

I still think the re-selection of Crouch was bought on by the angst from senior players
So Nicks caved in so he didn't upset them and get them offside
**** the senior players if that was the case. I still blame the club for recontracting Crouch. Hell we even tried to recontract Mackay. List management are complete idiots.

The entire story of the game:

Gold Coasts top 3 midfielders in Anderson, Rowell, Miller combined for 71 disposals (48 kicks, 23 handballs) 8 clangers and 20 inside 50's.

Adelaides top 3 midfielders in Laird, Keays, Crouch combined for 100 disposals (35 kicks, 65 handballs) 24 clangers and 5 inside 50's.

How do we have so many clangers when all we're doing is handballing it...

The fact that Dmac played about 150 games too many under multiple coaches tells us that it isn't all just the current senior coach that's our problem.
It also tells us that unless there is a massive clean out starting with Roo at the top of the football department. That in three or four years from now laird, keays and crouch will still be there forcing our younger players to be played out of position to accomodate them..

And we’ll all still be looking on in horror..

Mackay did it for 4 years too many.. and they even wanted him to do it all again this year as a 33/34 year old..

How old are laird keays and crouch?..

Keays 25, Laird 28 Crouch 27 I believe. Right in their prime. At least another 5 or 6 years with these prime movers 😒.

Rowe also.

He used to regularly use his non-preferred but we seem to have coached it out of him.

I remember on the draft night coverage, one of the commentators (Nat?) saying how much Crows fans were going to love this kid and how he goes about it

That comment has not aged well
I like how he goes about it, but that should be an added feature, not the only thing he brings to the table.

And to put it in further perspective, noah anderson should be running around in our midfield but for the ducking AFL gifting that priority pick to GC. We were royally screwed by the AFL in that draft

tim-robinson-i-think-you-should-leave.gif

Running around on the wing or at half forward more likely.

The tail wagging the dog is just another black mark against his name.

Another black mark? Some foundation less hunch that the senior players demanded him back in? Seriously!
I totally agree Crouch shouldn’t be playing but let’s not make rubbish up

The likely scenario is we have 10-12 experienced players on the list and picking them all (excluding the two injured) provides some structure to the 10-12 kids out there

Because they have played at the highest level and know better than us who have only watched the game for years.

Interesting that I heard Charlie Dixon say over the weekend he doesn’t watch any other football. I wonder if most AfL players are like that and if it is is norm. Personally, if I wanted to be the best I would be watching more football not less.
Jake Kelly said in an interview a year or two ago he used to watch every game, every week, but cut it back because the full-time obsession with football was getting too much for him and mentally it was big for him not to be concentrating on in 24/7. I imagine there's a lot of players like that who want/need to be away from football when they're not at the club.

If he's letting players opinions influence his selection policy, he's not a leader. I'm not saying he is doing that, I was just responding to Max's post where he speculated that might be the case.

I don't think it's limited to just the Crows. Plenty of teams do it at all levels. It's obviously how it is coached nowadays. Give and then get in position to receive again.
