This is one of the few instances where I'd pull the trigger on a deal like that. Issue is that we still need to trade for him so it quickly becomes a very expensive thing.

I understand your point, I trully do, but the question remains, if we are to pay what the MARKET determines, who are we to argue. A really good KPF and a good KPD are not going to come cheap. The Club appreciates this but is it prepared to go further? Personally I hope it does.

We need to make every post a winner. I understand you have to await the cycle, but build hard and bold hawks.

If we fail, make the winner or incumbent really pay.

We went above “budget” for McKay. He fell Essendons way because he was always going to play for his childhood team if they were prepared to pay.

I don’t believe we are yet to push the boundaries hard enough, but that is always my take!! We need to be “aggressive” and be prepared to pay for two decent KPD’s who we can build a team around.

The market already expects the HFC not to pay over its internal budget, but these are two positions I believe we must, in order to get what we need. There is a minority view in List Management that supports my arguement but I am asking the Club to put aside or redefine these limits.

At the same stage of their careers Buddy had kicked twice as many goals, and had a 73 goal season behind him. I’d rather miss out on UH and keep the money for two or more other big targets

There may not be other gettable KPF targets… so we stick with what we have. Imagine paying $10m and turning around after nearly a decade and the bloke has never kicked more than say, 50 goals in a season…

I am inclined to agree. That would be a better deal than Geelong gave Cameron, who was a proven elite KPF. I like JUH and would be happy to see him in Hawthorn colours but he has a long way to go before he is in the JC league.

Let’s see… I personally think he’s a bit of a show pony and not worth anywhere near that kind of money. When he’s on, he’s okay. When he’s not on, it’s like he’s not even on the park. Some might say that Franklin was a show pony too, but when he was off his game, he was still a huge threat. Opposition teams would walk off the ground thinking, thank f*k he kicked 2 goals 11 today…

JUH not even a shadow of the player Bud was.

A bad game for Buddy in his prime was probably 18 disposals, 6 marks and 3 goals 5 behinds.

A bad game for JUH as you say he barely registers a stat.

JUH strikes me more as a handy second forward, like Gunston was in the three peat years.

You don't pay that type of player $1 million.

I’d be more than happy to pay that for JUH. For a young highly rated KPF, you’re not paying that for what’s he’s done, like drafting, you’re paying that for what you can see him become. He could be a really good KPF - possibly even the best in the league if it all clicks. You don’t get too many chances to get these guys. Why die wondering?
