Shades of 2008 mens season. Let's hope it ends the same way.
I said this a few weeks ago. North have an arrogance very similar to Geelong in 08. They intimidate and then run away.

Don't think we are there yet, but it's been a massive improvement on the first 2 seasons

Credit to the fans who turned up today. A lot of men's fans who had NFI about the women's game but still cheered for the players like it was a men's grand final.
Outnumbered Richmond fans too.

Could be the start of a superclub in terms of attendance

Tbh I was planning on turning up for my first game, but tickets were sold out many days ago when I first went to buy! Hopefully week 1 final will be at a nice ground.

$1 million split by players and club.

Great improvement shown by senior men's and women's programs.

Great effort and big chance to win the GF this year. Norf only team with better formline by a smidgen.
Amazing result and massive improvements by both teams and enjoy watching every minute. That said to suggest we are close to North is way off. Let’s not get carried away we win 10 games where 8 of them are non finalists sides 9-11 and 13-18 (excluding 15th swans) on the ladder. Arguably our second best game was the crows loss (freo gutsy win stands out).
Winning any final would be fantastic and a huge accomplishment and it’s a massive platform for 2025 like the men.

Actually, have the AFL even thought about a mother-son rule. If so, what number of games played in the AFLW would qualify a son to select Hawthorn before an AFL draft?

Or is this too soon for the AFL to have thought this through? Obviously those clubs that had a head start in the AFLW staggered commencement would be at an advantage.

How about an AFL player? Does a daughter get to nominate for the club their dad played at for the AFLW draft?
Yes and their father only needs to have played one AFL game. There are a few who have already done it.
Millie Brown (Geelong, Western Bulldogs) - no longer playing - Paul Brown 84 Games
Tarni Brown (Carlton, formerly Collingwood) - Gavin Brown 254 Games
Alice Burke (St Kilda) - Nathan Burke 323 Games
Georgia Campbell (Melbourne) - Adrian Campbell 2 Games
Isabella Grant (Western Bulldogs) Chris Grant 341 Games
Abbie McKay (Carlton) - Andrew McKay 244 Games

Ok

What about the top half of my query? Where the AFLW player has a son good enough to be drafted in the AFL. Any talk on this?.

Good day out at Punt Rd Oval today. The kiddo is beyond obsessed with farm animals so ran amuck in the petting zoo before the game. The he had a daycare buddy at the game so he didn’t pull the ‘want to go home’ card and I got see the whole game. Said his favourite part of the day was ‘Hawthorn’ which was a fair effort when he got to see a baby cow.

Saw a few of the men’s team there today too which was good to see - Will Day and Josh Weddle walked past with a few other blokes I didn’t immediately recognise given the sunnies/hats being donned.

Overall a fun day out at the footy - and to the sooky Lions supporters:

No idea.
Edit: Probably won't be considered for a while considering that the AFLW only started in 2017, it'd be some time before any of their children turn 18.

Yeah aflw father daughter only needs dad to play a single afl game for their daughter to be picked up
Sorry, off topic, but, why don’t they do this with the men’s teams that have the shit stain academies because their father sons aren’t coming through yet and get rid of said academies?

Northern Academies have nothing to do with father son or the fact that Gold coast and GWS haven't got eligible children yet.

That's an excuse they like to use but Sydney and Brisbane are foundation clubs of the VFL/AFL from 1897.

The academies exist because the elite junior competitions aren't there in NSW and Qld so in exchange for those club running elite training academies for players in those states they get priority access. Victorian kids can go to Brighton grammar and play at Sandringham dragons and develop into draftable players. Someone in Qld can't do that..... except for the Brisbane academy player who goes to Brighton grammar and plays talent league for Sandringham dragons.
