I wonder how the Tambling trade affects the Jacobs trade?
It'll force you to get what he's worth instead of trying to rape us, it'll make the process go a hell of a lot faster

Though, I don't think we can get a straight up deal with you now

I'm thinking
Adelaide get - Jacobs
Fremantle get - Griffin
Carlton get - Adelaide's 2nd and Fremantle's 3rd

it affects it in a big way, because Crows only wanted 1 of them. if we pushed for Walker instead of Tambling, we would be losing massively in getting Jacobs/Walker in a complex package deal, which would've taken all week to sort out, and we'd risk the deal not getting completed. plus, Tambling would've landed at a different club by then.

instead, we've traded for Tambling early on, and now only want Jacobs, who is uncontracted, so we will hold our advantage in trading for him.

it's a good move by the Crows, and one that i'd hoped for.

Will anyone other than us be able to afford the price he will put on his head going into the PSD? His contract with us will almost certainly be frontloaded as well if that makes any difference

Knowing how hard Carlton have been to deal with over Walker, I can see why they jumped at Tambling. However what does this leave us realistically left with to trade for Jacobs? 2nd rounder wont do it considering what we just paid for Tambling. It will have to be a 2nd rounder and an acceptable player or it will be PSD if he doesnt go elsewhere. The club must have had some assurances that he wont go to another club by choice for us to go down this path.

Richmond you would think.

I wouldn't be disappointed if we traded
pick 14 + pick 31 for Jacobs + pick 18
The players that we'd be looking to draft at 14 are midfielders such as Ben Jacobs, Luke Parker, Kieran Harper and Jayden Pitt.
All of these players should still be around at 18.
I'd say Carlton would probably accept this deal.

Gee, if he's 100% not re-signing with the Blues, perhaps its worth taking the risk of letting him go in the PSD and promising we'll take him. If he nominates SA as his preferred destination and his contract his front-loaded, surely most clubs would back away? And Port can't steal him either since we're before them.

Comparing the d'heads over at Visy to the diligent negotiations we had with the Tigers, I couldn't care less about fairness. You want fair, you give fair. And so far their negotiative process have resembled a bunch of monkeys smoking the green stuff.

I like that idea. Surely we have enough flexibility in our salary cap (for season 2011 atleast) to make it very hard for any club before us to pick him up.

No point wasting away a 1st round pick when we have a really solid chance at getting him for free. If Carlton are willing to deal him for a 2nd round and maybe a 3rd round pick fair enough, but anything more is not worth it. I'd also give them the option of upgrading their first round pick but that is all.

Could we have paid overs for Tambling on the understanding if Jacobs slipped to the PSD they wouldnt pick him up? I reckon they would be the biggest chance to take him in the PSD.

Maybe a "nudge nudge wink wink let's screw Carlton over" deal that involves paying slightly overs for Tambling on the understanding that they take Grigg in PSD (effectively only giving up a 3rd rounder for him) leaving Jacobs for us in PSD. Maybe Richmond are also dealing with the same crap from the Carlton recruiters and there is a collective agreement to leave them with nothing if they continue to try to play hardball.

:D:thumbsu: Love a good conspiracy theory.

Hmmm.. very good point actually.

I actually suggested this a few days ago, maybe Harper read it:thumbsu:

"We could even use this to our advantage. Richmond are the only club I think who would go for Jacobs that need him and could afford him. Overcompensate them for Tambling on the understanding they dont go for Jacobs. They get more for Tambling than they would have normally, eg Bock pick, 2nd rd pick and player and we secure Tambling and Jacobs. "

If it comes off you can all buy me drinks and the club can employ me:)
