Basic football knowledge show Nick Dacios will be an elite midfielder as he has shown it this year. Doing last year's draft again, Dacios would have went pick 1 which most projected him to do anyway. No doubt Rankine hasn't proven to be an elite small forward let alone can develop into an elite midfielder (a position he has played U18) which is why we shouldn't be overpaying for him especially when uncontracted.

Not sure why you keep bringing up Daicos, we're talking about JHF. Some hit the ground running in the right system, others you just get glimpses of what's there. Not sure your fixation on Daucos and who should've gone at 1, it has no relevance to this discussion.

We offered North three first rounders for him last year.
Agreed his value has dropped versus 12 months ago hindsight is a wonderful thing.

But the fact remains JHF is an elite mid and back at home not homesick and in the right environment he has superstar talent written all over him.

Did our list manager have any mail or inkling on JHF meeting Kenny & Co last week or are we completely blindsided.

Port did this one on the quite out of the media unlike Graham and Dunkley which is the better way to go.
I think Horne has been speaking to powaa for 12 months. They would have planned to announce it at the beginning of trade period. They may have told him to play up as well to diminish his trade value. I hope north makes them pay up big time for having this distraction.

Because you brought up JHF will be elite as in he has proven himself like Daicos has in the same draft as him last year?

Disappointed that we’re not getting JHF is an understatement. Will be tough seeing ports midfield tear us up for the next decade or so.

On the positives though:
  • Will be hilarious seeing the double standard / Vic media bias applied to this trade.
  • With Port losing this years first, and Phillipou draft ranking slipping, might be a chance to get him with a later first round pick.
  • Having a crack at Holland’s next year (or the following). Will cost a heck of a lot less than JHF.

If we get Phillipou and Holland then both midfield will have potential to be equally as good lol.

I reckon the opposite.

After missing out on Dunkley and Graham met up with JHF Saturday morning. Convinced him and his family to pull the trigger now and not next year.

Port are all about PR, no way they don't announce to the world the news as soon as they know. As they did Dunk and Graham.

Plus if they were getting either Dunkley or Graham there is no trade capital for JHF.

Still need to appease WCE for Rioli as well.

Crows out of race for Jason Horne-Francis as more details on trade request emerge: AFL trade news

But while Port Adelaide sits in the front seat for Horne-Francis' services, it seems Adelaide aren't seen as a chance to acquire the top-rated midfielder, who will either land a trade to the Power or see out the final year of his contract with the Kangaroos.

Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes has revealed that Horne-Francis has already met with Port Adelaide key figures Ken Hinkley and Chris Davies, who have been left impressed by the youngster's "character".

“He's not interested in going to Adelaide,” Cornes told AFL Trade Radio on Monday.

“Chris Davies, Ken Hinkley, Jason Horne-Francis and his manager Ben Williams met in person last week. Port Adelaide were really impressed by him and his character, albeit understanding he had some challenges last year.

The article lost some creditability for me when Kane Cornes said

He is a quality media performed good old Kano

It's some crafty wording. But it mixes a fact, 'He met with Port Adelaide and they were impressed with him', with his opinion, 'He's not interested in going to Adelaide'.

There's a reason he didn't say - 'Jason has told Port he has no interest in going to Adelaide'

If he's off to Port after less than 12 months then he was never coming to us unless we drafted him, which we attempted to do before the draft.

Kane saying "he only wants to go to Port" isn't some underhanded dig. It's true.

JHF will be a gun but don't let it ruin your day.

I feel confident our midfield will stack up well against powaa or more importantly the league. We just need that tall explosive mid to top it off (Holland's) but Berry and Soligo are both going to be elite. We still have Schoenberg, Pedlar, Rachele, Rankine, Taylor who may develop into an elite mid as well.

Gotta love Kano's work in the media everything is through black white and teal glasses he is always so impartial. Some sporting journos you would have no idea who they support. Not saying he is wrong that JHF wants to go to Port but coming home would be the Biggest factor.

I'm disappointed he hasn't chosen us but I'm loving the fact that two top 3 draft pick players in rankine and horne-francis have returned to south australia and now the victorian bias media know how it feels. Add Dawson to that last year as well.

Victorian media think it's a great story when their victorian kids leave the interstate sides and return home but its a different story when the rolls are reversed.
Tanner Bruhn has requested Geelong I think, media apparently okay with that high pick wanting out after 2 years.

Yep that's great character leaving a club a year into a two year contract. Was Horne impressed by Davies and Hinkley's character? Kenny must have shown him his coke can collectables.

wanting out of that shitshow now that Clarko is in limbo is a very good sign. It's those happy to stay that I'd be avoiding.

If that's the case they should have told him to stay put for another year as getting a contracted player who was pick 1 the previous year will cost a lot. Just look at Boyd.

North will decide if we’re out of it, not Kane

The fact Port were chasing Dunkley shows that this is a last minute decision by JHF. Can only assume both us and the Power were both gearing up to make a big play for him at the end of next year. With the Clarkson saga he has obviously decided to make the move now and that put Port in the best position to land him with us already committing to Rankine.

I can't see North holding him to his contract now, they will 100% make the trade this year and cut their losses. His value has already dropped since he was drafted, and it will only drop more in another 12 months.
