Sloane didn't stand aside, surely that is very obvious
When you listen to Sloane he states that er would have been capable if the club desired. He also said that he was at his peak physical condition. So I dont think he was dictated too but I do feel he has been coaxed into stepping down. Thats not a negative comment. I believe that the club has made a good decision and I think they have managed the process very well. So thats all good. The only downside is will we lose Doedee? Watching how the club manages Doedee will be interesting and if they can come through this with Doedee still on our list then that should be worth huge Kudos.

You pick the best captain regardless of what others think.

All this talk that Doedee will leave if he wasn't made captain is silly imo.

If Doedee leaves it will be to other factors like the desire to go home, not because he missed out on the captaincy.

When was the last player who left because they were not captain?

Doedee deserves to remain in our leadership group.

Yes, I think Tom had already decided before today what his future is.
Can you appoint someone to the leadership group who hasn’t bothered to sign on yet?

He is signed on for this year.

Plenty of other clubs have players in their leadership group who are in the final year of their contract!

Fair enough, but the Crows should be about developing leaders for our club’s future and not other clubs.
1. He is already developed as a leader
2. He is on our list
3. Developing players for other clubs is standard - want a ruck? Wait until they have been at another club

Watched the presser, Dawson got to say a few words, but then they kept asking Sloane about his decision to stand down, over and over. The new captain is there and you haven’t asked do what’s your vision for the team, or what are your priorities for the year, or who do you think will be a standout this year

Un-feckin-believable

That’s the press, pushing for a headline

I think the stepping down of a caotain is generally a bigger story than the announcement of the replacememt. But perhaps that's why the former captain has always stood down earlier. They have their presser and then there's a totally separate one at a later date with the new captain. They both get their opportunity to be the sole focus of the presser.

So what does this mean for where Dawson plays? And if he continues to play back does that mean he is quite happy with Nicks strategy with him and the way he is used?

it means nothinG in terms of where he plays and whether he's happy with the way he's being used. Surely you're not suggesting that he'd refuse the captaincy just because he wasn't happy with the way he's being used?

Not at all. I am suggesting he would have some input into how he was being used if he feels it is not taking advantage of his skill set and best helping the team

You don’t seriously think any club would have a captain and coach not aligned on basic team strategy? Successful teams need everyone on the same page - but particularly leadership

So one way or another we will see either Dawson predominantly playing up field or he is all in on playing back to best help the team

I'm honestly not sure how you can conflate the 2. But I can see that it's important to you that his captaincy somehow influences the argument on whether he should play further up the ground. Weird, but that's ok.

Think Dawson has always been happy to play wherever so I don’t think it’s an issue

At times he’s been given a license to position himself wherever he likes and he’s played behind the ball

Doesn’t change fact he can influence games most by playing midfield
