Player Watch Jordan Dawson - Our New Captain!

Kane on SEN asking should JD be in discussion for AA Captain? Healy said much improved player after joining the Crows. Not being “just a HBF/wing type” to being an impactful on baller and definitely in early discussions for AA team (or words to that effect)

I’d have him and Rankine in my AA team so far

Amazing how well we’ve hit on our trade targets these last two seasons

As others have noted as much as JHF will be elite, those 3 picks we offered up equals Rankine, Dawson and Rachelle. Extraordinary the impact as now 3 of our very best players - all elite in the making.

We need another 1-2 years of elite drafting and trading and I reckon we are good for a flag or 2 THIS decade

Great to see Nicks staying with the strategy. Dawson was bloody good as a sweeping defender but is amazing as a midfielder.

With Worrel coming back and Maxy doing damn well as the interceptor, plus Hinge playing the smaller defender role, it really frees up Doedee.

I will be opposed by others on this forum but I am still of the opinion that Doedee can make a very effective big midfielder as well

We would've still recruited Dawson and Rankine so JHF would have cost us Rachele, Soligo and Taylor (needed to use at least those last 2 picks for Dawson) and whoever we select in this year's draft with our 1st rounder unless we bundle North's and ours 2023 2nd rounder to get the 1st rounder for Rankine.

I actually thought the same thing before the knee. I'm not sure now, as he doesn't keep feet.

Dermie tonight: Forwards must love Dawson getting the ball in the middle
Sloane: plus he’s a great leader in there, can rarely read what’s going on

Some posters and Nicks up until 2 rounds ago, nah Dawson should be in defence

I’m a bit cynical about chucking him in the guts. Feels like more band aiding over our neglect to draft midfielders.

Though I guess if he plays there all year and does well against the best midfields, then that’s exactly where he belongs.

One didn't think there was a difference between Dawson playing midfield & defence.

Have we seen any recent heat maps...

The best players on any team usually play midfield
Of course.

But we didn’t recruit him as one, didn’t play him there much at all last year. It was a panic move after a couple of loses. Granted, it could turn out for the best.

It just shows how badly we neglected that part of the ground for ages. The most important part too. Feels like a shoe horn. First Laird, now Dawson, maybe RT next?

We recruited him as a winger and panicked and put him back after a couple of losses.

And now he’s an on baller, which in an ideal world we wouldn’t need to do.
True, but if he ends up a gun mid we are winning either way. 2 games in and he’s shaping up that way, seems to be a player who is elite in whatever position he plays.

Can’t believe how good he is, thank **** he chose us, imagine watching him play for Port

this should be pinned to the top of the thread

Edit

Drugs Are Bad Mackay? ...see my comment above:arrowup:

He has been a lot more physically tough than I thought he would be. Has stood up in a few tackles and don’t argued his way out of some others.
More than his play though I love his leadership. There were some questions around why he got the captaincy in front of others but I love that after the poor loss to Richmond - with our season fast derailing at 0-2 - he laid it on the senior players in the media to stand up early in the week, went to the coach and said he needs to be in the middle and then his first quarter of the showdown was tough and brilliant.

Fantastic leader

He struggled in traffic the few times he played up the ground and then got tagged down back last year a bit.

Looks like he has worked on that. Got some physicality and ability to use his body this year.
