Our current picks for the 2023 draft could easily become a pick in the late 20's, mid 40's and early 50's based on F/S and academy bids being matched like in the 2022 draft night. The 2023 draft have a good amount of F/S and academy draftees within the top 30 based on the current rating.
Clubs like the Swans and others could cause problems again like they did for the Crows in 2022
Have faith in our list management team (who were outstanding in the recent trade period).
I have no doubt we will trade back into the draft; albeit, I hope it is not Bergman.

However, if Bergamn wishes to return home next year, it will be like the Amon trade.
Handled maturly, a win for both player and Club.

Absence driving Bergman as Power eye finals return

I thought this article pretty much summed up how wreaked Bergman’s year was in 2022 - so it’s change my opinion on his “trade-ability”

Preseason shoulder surgery that didn’t work, meaning he was underdone and then missed 10 weeks because he was ill.

The article even says:
Last year, when his name was floated as a potential trade option as part of the Power's busy off-season, he told the club he was adamant on staying. Port, also, had no plans of moving him on.

A year is a long time in football, but I hope he stays.

Player movement explosion? Why trade shackles are off for AFL clubs

No AFL club will be shackled with trade restrictions this year – at least when it comes to first-round draft picks – in a development that could unlock an explosion of player movement.

The league enabled clubs to begin trading future selections in 2015, but that introduction came with a stipulation: teams must use at least two first-round picks in the previous four years to be eligible to trade a first-round choice that year or next.

How many first-round picks your AFL club has used

Clubs must make a minimum of two first-round draft selections in a rolling four-year period. Eg. 2019-22 is the period for this year, then 2019 drops off next year, when it will become 2020-23

So we have used 2 picks in the 2020-22 period, and thus are ok.
With no picks this year, can we trade our 2024 first rounder to a club for a first this year?
Gives us 3 picks in he 2020-23 perid ie. more than the required 2 picks for tat 4 year period.

Unfortunately the Ladhams/Sinn pick upgrade of 2021 may come back to bite.

What’s the rule? 2 first round picks in a rolling 4 years? So by my calculations-

2021- Sinn (pick 12)
2022 - no 1st round picks
2023 - no 1st round picks
2024 - Port hold a pick, but will need to use it, unless they can get an exemption. But I am not sure how that will go, especially after last year’s media storm over JHF (different rule, I know).

Otherwise, Bergman for Pickett + pick swaps? Prefer to keep Bergman though .
2020 - Jones
2021 - Sinn
2022 & 2023 - No first round pick

Given we have used 2 picks across a rolling 4 year period we should be able to trade a future first this year.

But if you have to maintain 2 picks across a rolling 4, Port will need to use one in 2024 - the Jones pick will drop off the ledger.

I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t think the AFL will let Port trade its future 1st without receiving one in return, as they will need one to make a selection in the first round (in either 2023 or 2024)

Convinced there’s no hope of Bergman leaving voluntarily. Our chances of early picks next year are fading.
Why? He’s from suburban Melbourne with a long term girlfriend from Melb who’s been happy to study remotely in Adelaide but she’ll be finished this year and looking for job opportunities. I think it’s Bergman, Georgiardis or both for trade bait.

I'm convinced Bergman likes it here and it's as simple as that. They're a happy group.
Think that's the problem with Mitch as well. We throw his name out there because he's unsigned as it's nice to speculate on the top end of next year's draft but bottom line is they like it here.

Which players are completely off limits in a trade for Kozzie?

I would think it's only rozee, butters, jhf, georgiadis, mcentee, wines and marshall.
McEntee is off limits in any Pickett trade, but that was Melbourne's decision, not ours.

Most goals: Charlie Dixon (310)
Players with 100-plus career goals: 5 (Charlie Dixon, Travis Boak, Orazio Fantasia, Jeremy Finlayson, Todd Marshall)
Players with 50-plus goal seasons: 0
Leading goalkicker in 2022: Todd Marshall (45)
Average goals kicked in 2022: 11.9 (equal 10th most)
Players with 20-plus goals in 2022: 4 (Todd Marshall, Sam Powell-Pepper, Mitch Georgiades, Jeremy Finlayson)

Trent to play for the magpies, we give him a spot in the mid season draft when orazio breaks down.....
I think Jed Hagan is the one in line for a mid-season spot if there is one.

Need to acquire a tall defender in the off-season. Cox or Petty would be awesome if we are able to figure out a way to trade for either of them - both young too.

A speculative teaser about Ben McKay in this Herald Sun article...

Nothing speculative there.
That’s exactly what’s going to happen.
