NAB Cup Round 1 - Hawthorn v Sydney

for some reason i really enjoyed that game, it was pretty ugly but it was a tight contest and hard fought.

sydney really impressed, i thought the hawks were lucky to win in the end. the 2 supergoals the hawks got at the start through 50m penalties were iffy. so many unheard of swans players were great.

too bad about malceski, hope its not an acl.

With Tassie's foward line I just don't understand why they don't get it in quickly up the middle like the mighty Catters do.

They persist with that disgusting floodfest chip chip rubbish.:thumbsdown:

Yuck.

And if behinds were made of pixie dust we'd be living in the magical fairy kingdom. But when I look at the score board it still shows Hawthorn as winning and no magical kingdom :(

that ground in tassie always seems to throw up rubbish games.Im sure the hawks will play more direct footy againt carlton at the dome next weekend

What a load of crap.

Hawthorn deliberately went for super-goals on about 3 occassions, one suceeded, two failed. If it wasn't NAB cup they wouldn't have dished them off when they had a mark inside 50, and could have gone for 6 points on those occassions (Williams and Rioli both dished off when they were within range).

Those are the rules for the NAB cup and sides play within those rules and nothing else. Who knows what would have happened under normal circumstances, but what you can't do is just substitute points, because players were playing under a certain set of rules.

yeah the hawks were pretty poor, they actually got beaten in the midfield which is suprising. faulks killed boyle and franklins radar was off.

mark williams was ok in patches. at the end of the day though, the swans didnt have it in them to get that last goal.

What really hurt the Swans was the lack of forward options. The midfield got the ball and the entry into the forward 50 was terrible as they had no idea who to kick it too. If Barry Hall or Michal O'Loughlin played that game im certain the result would have been different.

hawks won thanks to some dodgey umpiring and the swans youth, who understandably faded at the end.

We let the youngsters run out the game.

Hawthorn did not handle the pressure applied to them in the midfield, i thought it was their senior guys too like hodge, crawf mitchell etc who were fumbling under pressure.

Buddys kicking was pathetic but then he wasnt given good delivery, i think there were more positives for us in that match than the hawks, they have a fair few worries id say as to how they handle teams that give them a red hot physical contest.

Also the crowd seemed in the swans favour, a lot of booing for the hawks etc. So was nice to sit in

The wind was crazy with that Bateman kicked, was going straight at the goals, then pushed way across. Aimed at the right spot, but wind is pretty strong.

wasnt that strong today

The wind in the last quarter made kicking goals from 40 or further pretty much impossilbe from the left side of the ground. It was tough conditions, no doubt about that in terms of goal kicking.

i was there didnt feel very windy to me but both sides kicked like crap in the end

The headline in tomorrows SMH: "WE DIDN'T LOSE BY ALL THAT MUCH REALLY!" inspirational stuff for the swans faithful. Never seen fans so happy with a loss.

I am happy with a loss, as it was a NAB Cup match, and we played a lot of kids. If it wasn't for the injury, I'd consider it the perfect practice match. Some of our young guys played very well, and could make an impact in the season proper.

4 of the worst also.

Hawthorn/Brisbane
Hawthorn/Kangaroos
Hawthorn/Sydney

And of course one of the worst matches of the decade Hawthorn/St Kilda.
Its such a boring argument.

We played more free flowing games than we did congested games. The times we didn't play free flowing is when the opposition doesn't allow us to, not by choice.

Whatever floats your boat though I guess.

We didn't seem to boring against your mob.
