Neil Craig changed approach??

Stiffy, I don't think anyone is arguing that Bock has done the wrong thing... of course you'd take an offer like that, absolutely mad if you don't... but I think it was that WAY this all went down that has pissed people off. You don't one minute state you want to be a one club man and the next tell that one club your off to another.

With Torney and Welsh - they both knew where they stood. There was no secretive, behind doors dealing going on. Welsh was told he had an in principal agreement but we weren't ready to commit it to paper. He needed more than that, and fair enough, but he always knew where he stood.
No offense Jenny but if you for one minute believe the dribble that comes out of players, managers and clubs mouth, then I have a piece of real estate that you would be interested in.

You will be amazed by the sort of games that are being played in the negotiations. I would not be surprised for a second if the club deliberatly put up Nathan for media duties to test where he stands.

Also what Nathan said at the press conference is technically correct. He said he would like to be a one club player. I am sure he would still feel the same provided that the rest of the pieces of the puzzle fit.

As for Welsh he was told a bunch of emptry promises by bullshit artists whose bluff was called. Welsh was verbally told (and John Reid himself admitted this publicly) that we would be happy offer him a 1+1 type deal. If he met certain clauses and the criteria set for him, the second year of the contract would automatically kicked in. He was happy to with the criteria and clauses set but wanted them written in the contract and specifically stated that if fulfilled, the second year of the contract would be triggered.

We bulked because we never, in a million years would have offered him the second year. These sort of contracts are not rare, they are pretty common in professional sports and the line fed by the club that it would be "too hard" to include these in the contract was a load of crap. AFC wanted to do Scot Welsh over, sign him up for a year and never give him the second year. If they were honest in their intentions of offering the 2nd year of certain goals are met, those would have been included in the contract. Fact is they weren't and came up with some bullshit excuse how its hard to include these in a written contract. A MUCH MUCH more complex contracts are written up in sports world wide. Anything can be done if someone wants to do it.

The club uses these sneaky tactics all the time and no one says a boo but when a player looks after his own interests, people want to burn him at the square like a witch! Its double standards that astound me.

Couldn't agree more Stiffy.

Look at the way people talk about cutting Jacky with relish.

The idea that loyalty should be a one way street, and only exist where a player is talented is illogical.

Craig has been arrogant in his attitude that the club has a wonderful culture that is hard to match.

No, NC can do no wrong and everyone else is to blame for losses, players leaving and global warming.

I think he has got a bit of egg on his face and some of his bizarre selections come back to bite him on the ass.

It will take the club a decade to recover from the Neil Craig era.

I'm just gonna go with...

Another great post Stiff. I hope the people doing all the irrational sooking and sprooking the 'Judas Bock' BS actually take some notice.

Ok, here is a question for you, which doesn’t have strings attached (well sort of)

Does the AFC do a end of year review on all the coaching staff?

Is there any possibility of coaches and staff being let go in the off season?

Who do you think should go?

For me, definates:

Clarke - Our rucks are going backwards fast.

Schwerdt - Has been there way too long. If he helped create the pre-season training regime (which you think he would have) then it was a disaster. Time to move him on.

Hart - Should always be the best man form the job not the best ex-crows man.

I am no longer a fan of Craig but he will obviously stay on for another year at least. However, another year like this one and I'm predicting he will be gone by round 14.

What about the Assistant coaches CD? Happy with all of them?

I love Matty Clarke, but just not sure he has what it takes to coach the ruck. It's a changed species these days.

Agree with you re Schwerdt. Time for a change.

What is Hart's role? If it's defence, you'd have to say he's been doing ok?

Interesting to hear Parkin on the insider the other night, talking about the changing role of the forward and how there is a demand that they have defensive abilities.

^^^
Id have said the most urgent by far is a forward coach that can use the talents of Tippet, Walker, Henderson and Porplyzia to good effect in the same forward line.

Followed closely by a fitness and conditioning coach that can keep our players on the park.

Gotta agree with you there W_D. Our forward line is so incredibly inefficient at the moment it's laughable. I can think of numerous times when we have dominated for a significant passage but not been able to convert it into scores. Granted, part of that is the fault of the midfield, but a much larger part is our forward line failure.

Jack Oatey's name gets thrown around a bit, why not give him an audition?

.

He needs to develop a reliable kick. He burns a lot of chances, big mobile, strong hands - shit kick

Is our forward line inefficient, or the way we deliver it to them? Perhaps that will improve as our mid-field does.

Or the way we structure to provide good defense before worrying out kicking the goals in the first place.....

Deep entries.
Guys already in 'zone' positions

=

Insufficient crumbers

Sure we get a ton of 're-entries' but don't get the conversions from them we should.

It's like watching hockey (ice)/soccer where they keep the puck/ball trapped in the offensive area til the pressure breaks.

Rather than the geelong version of playing AFL at its purest.

Guys if the reported figure of $750K per season over 3 years is correct, Bock would have been an absolute dill not to take it. We all harp on about the culture and loyalty and we get crossed when a player turn their back on us, but in reality, we show no loyalty to players when we have no use for them any longer.

Where was the loyalty when we showed Torney the door? Where was the common curtesy of putting our verbal agreement in writing to Scott Welsh? Fact is, its very hypocrtical of us to expect the players to show us loyalty when we ourselves don't have any as soon as we don't need them any more.

Sport IS a business and as much as people want to deny this and throw the loyalty crap our way, its a fact. If I was in Bock's position, I would have done the same thing. We are talking a difference of $300K per season and close to a $1million over the course of the contract. If you honestly wouldn't do the same thing as Bock given the circumstances, I think you are a few pennies short.
.

Loyalty is still a factor in having players stay at a club for less than market price .......that said the loyalty $ premium is finite .....lets say 10-15% for discussion purposes

Bocks offer was way in excess of any loyalty premium that any club could expect ......and the fact that its 3 years and as Bock said his body started to have problems this year .......so a bird in the hand ...

This is correct but the trouble we have as fans is that the 'people' you refer to are the decision makers within the Adelaide Football Club. They are the ones crapping on about loyalty and culture.
