Hawthorn had the best half dozen players on the ground by a fair stretch. There will not be 1 Collingwood player attracting a vote and if there is, then the award is a scam of the highest order and fully deserves a big fat asterisk against it
This is a great study in the development of conspiracy theories

1. Thread gets visited regularly by a small group of opposition supporters who don't like Daicos and are intent on finding arguments to run him down.

2. Said group dont recognise their biases so get very up in arms about the praise the experts and general football world give to arguably the best young player in the comp

3. They dont like Daicos getting votes in different awards especially if they feel he was overrewarded.

4. They see the only real solution is his coach is trying to bump him up and give him votes he doesnt deserve

5. They pounce on 2 votes he gets against Essendon as irrevocable evidence of their theory and completely disregard that there is any possibility it was Scott who gave Daicos 2 and Fly gave Sidey 2.

6. Evidence is pointed out to them that there is no great discrepancy in the votes given to Daicos comparing coach to coach and other players have clearly greater discrepancies.

7. Despite this being the only objective evidence that can speak to their theory they discard it immediately because it doesn't fit their bias

8. Next week there is some angry posting re why would Daicos get votes this week and the coach is cheating again. Concerns prove premature, he doesnt vote

9. Hawks whack Pies and are expected to get all the votes. Said group of posters are up and about, posting Daicos better not get votes etc ( he wont by the way)

10. The next step is taken down the rabbit hole. The conspiracy becomes its Collingwood players getting "fake news votes". If any Collingwood players getting votes this week (and of course in the unlikely event that happens it can only be the Collingwood coach awarding them) this becomes strong evidence the award is a scam. Collingwood coaches are driving the scam and a big * should be placed against this award ( of course this particularly serves the theorists well in the event Daicos wins or finishes near the top)

Wow wow wow. Things must be noisy in the echo chamber. Gives you a bit of an idea how Q Anon etc arise.

In all honesty, this guy is a career half back flanker. He can win a Brownlow of a half back still. He cant as a midfielder. When a guys number 1 strength is being basically the best kick of the AFL in recent memory, watching him yesterday in a pack handballing it out to Ned Long is just completely absurd

Collingwood need to find a way to get him back to a HBF where he is by far at his best. If he plans to stay a midfielder like he has been this year, he wont be winning any Brownlows, so he cant and wont be the GOAT. Getting 30+ a game of a half back is his go. Heck even get the guy to take the kick ins and put that to 40 a game...

Either way this has been a step back in 2024 and the cause is Collingwood trying to use him as a inside midfielder

Would you say the same about Pendles?

Nick is missing a fit De Goey and ANY in and under midfielder really atm. All the pies midfield are outside mids.

Like Pendles he may never win a Brownlow in the mid, but being a great kick of the footy doesn't proclude him from playing mid.

Need we remember, again, he's 21 and this is his first year playing mid full time (in arguably the hardest year to do so for us given injuries, form and age of other mids).

No one needs to be reminded of his age, this thread isn't about who is the best 21 year old, it's a discussion about people anointing him the future goat

Absolutely not. Nick Daicos field kicking is miles above Pendles. Not even close either.

Nicks missing Tom Mitchell big time which would make him a better midfielder but it wont make him as good as he is off half back. Its all about possession totals for him. Id go into every game and wanting Nick to have 25-35 kicks a game. Dont care where he gets them. Thats what id want to see. Give him 25-30 kicks and good shit will happen

He can play as a mid for sure but doesnt mean he will be as impactful or good. To me Collingwood will be better off with say Will Brodie playing a midfield role and Daicos off HB, then Daicos in the midfield and John Noble playing a HB role. Thats a move they can do in the off season that is free to do and a win/win for the club position wise

There is an echo chamber in this thread, but it’s not the one you think it is.

They've got a Ferrari working on the jobsite.

He looks banged up and tired. We didn't even tag him.

Hmmm I think that comparison reeks of recency bias against Pendles. He's been a genuinely phenomenal kick for a long time. You're forgetting his 2009-2012 stint, for example. To say it's not close is wrong. I'm hoping if know given I watch them every week 🤔

I agree with the second part. He is 21 and cooked after carrying the midfield since round 2. Without him there'd have been games we'd have lost by 30-60. He at times has near single handedly kept us from getting smashes, or been the difference between a win and a loss.

You don't need to tag him now because he's stuffed, and also when no other mods are firing its basically him vs your team and that's a game you'll win most weeks at the moment. Geelong obliterated us in the midfield last week. With De Goey at 50% fitness at best, and every other mid either in their first few games or old... Not much to run with!

Given how apocalyptic your teams performance has been this season, it makes sense you’d spend so much time here :).

it’s clear to see you will be a “great” contributor to this thread during the dark decades ahead.

Collingwood have been pretty woeful this year.

2 draws we should have won, almost losing to North, losing to saint Kilda (that's the one that gets me).

Yet here we are sitting two games behind 2nd flag favourites (Carlton) who are having their best season in a long time.

And we even beat Carlton.

Don't get me wrong, I'm aware you'll pump us in a couple weeks' time, and yes I know we're cooked as and have been atrocious.

But the level of pomp is a bit over the top for a team that's also just lost two on the trot, has - by their opinion - the best mida in the comp, and two Coleman medallists.

And to be clear, Carlton are my flag favourites. Going to be hard for Sydney to beat a Vic team at the G on that day.

But as it stands, our "apocalyptic" team is two wins behind Carlton. And that's in a season where we've had two draws... 🤣

Context is indeed, king.

The hubris sprayed by Collingwood fans over the past year, culminating in a stupid thread like this, has been there for all to see & suffer.

The facts are;

1. Collingwood (as we've been so energetically reminded) are last years premiers.

2. Collingwood Hubris has exploded in cosmic proportions, espousing The Dirty Bird's greatness & everyone else's shyteness & proposing a young player with nice skills (& a lack of hardness) could be the GOAT - after 1 year!

3. Collingwood are the oldest team in the comp & likely to lose several players (some have clearly moved on already).

4. Collingwood have given up Jack Ginnivan, at least this years' pick 6 & LY second rounder for a little spud called Schultz, based on the same hubris that clearly emanates through the club.

5. Collingwood have zero draft hand this year unless you gut the value you do have & trade for draft picks - in which case you will finish last next year.

6. If Collingwood don't gut the team to get a few extra daft selections, they will try to fill gaps per Richmond & only end up delaying & prolonging the inevitable arctic winter you have coming.

7. With Tasmania coming into the comp shortly, they will be soaking up the best players in the comp at the cost of those teams hoping to rebuild (Collingwood), in which case you can look forward to a team of spuds something like below;

B Shultz Shultz Shultz
HB Shultz Whispers Shultz
C Shultz Shultz Shultz
HF Shultz Shultz Shultz
F Shultz Shultz Shultz
B Shultz Shultz Shultz
C Shultz Shultz Shultz

Pendles is a great decision maker as much as a good kick. Daicos kicking is just at a level we have never seen. His decision making is 100% not at Pendles level which is maybe what you are confusing yourself with. Daicos is just new and will develop that more over time. Overexpectation is a bit of the issue here too.

This thread was actually started after Daicos' second year... facts are important.

The rest of your rant - we heard it all after 2021. Then guess what happened?

Carlton supporters of all people should be first to acknowledge that building for a flag doesn't just come through first round picks. If this was the case, you'd have won 5 flags between 1995 and now.

There's also free agency, second round picks, trades, and general player development.

Geelong are a great example of a team who has been constantly criticised for being too old and falling off a cliff, but which have had sustained success. I remember hearing they were old and cooked after 2010, and 2020.
They just so happened to attract some guys called Dangerfield, Isaac Smith, and Jeremy Cameron to help with that.

I fully appreciate that Collingwood fans' hubris is significant. Can you honestly say though that Carlton fans would be better if they actually won something? Carlton's hubris coming in to this season alone was as though they'd won the flag in 2023 themselves, and throughout the year this has persisted even when there's been some bad losses.

Isn't that just fandom, when we get some hope / success?

Nick is the best young player we've had in a long time. He's also carrying the team. At 21. It is unheard of. We like him. Lol.

I remember the Judd at Carlton years... Carlton supporters seemed to only know the word "Judd" at games. We might be the same with Nick. Can ya blame us?

Also as much as people hate on Schultz, for first year in our system he's actually been fine. At times he's been our only forward who looks like kicking a goal. Has been asked to play CHF and FF at times due to injuries.

If that first round pick by Freo ends up being a dude and Schultz goes on to be a solid role player, who wins the trade? Debating it now is silly. The other reality is, backing a premiership team to go again, and getting a proven talent who can contribute now, over a possibly good pick who will eventually contribute, is the right move.

No I think he’s a good player with lovely skills.

He just lacks the other half, hardness & a willingness to put his body on the line.

Have a look at the 2’s.

There’s not a lot on depth to draw on.

That’s a reflection of your recruiting team’s ability - not sure I would rely on them with draft or FA Hail Marys.

Fair assessment.

I do think right at this moment things look relatively bleak, but ya know what footy is like. I wouldn't be surprised to see us bottom out but also wouldn't be surprised to see us back in the top few next year. A lot can change in the off season. I am excited to see how the current coaching panel and footy department respond to a big challenge - as it's been all good vibes until this year.

The defence seems to be where things have broken down

I think that the Pies poor performances and likely prolonged spell in the bottom third of the ladder gives ND to chance to stake his claim as the GOAT. GAJ won a Brownlow from 14th, a truly remarkable performance. Lets see if ND can mirror that, though he doesn't have a great record of polling votes in losses.

difference between the two is that GAJ never went missing in losses, naicos will still bring his own ball but is only sporadically effective with it in hand.

And Sheezel plays in a far worse team yet is putting in far better performances. Doing things Daicos doesnt do.

Sheezel is 19.

Sheezel should be AA, but the selectors are still likely to go with Daicos. Because its a popularity contest, not an ability contest. We see it every single year.
