No one said they were soft you donkey, just said there has never been a better time to play this sport. In a few short years it will almost be non contact.

Basically is now.
All they need to do is add streamers and AFL tag.
Look at GWS player being suspended for 3 weeks...for what was a great tackle (not even remotely dangerous).

If you are a lawyer you should not be allowed to hold a position of power in the game only be advisory to those in charge.
They will destroy the fabric of the game and kill it off in an attempt to "save it".

There has been one case that went against a sporting body when the argument that players play at own risk therefore liability lies with them, which the judge acknowledged that this is true but to what degree is the organising body responsible for a Duty of care to protect the players from harm in a work environment.

It is still a reasonable argument from what I have read but they are unsure how a judge would swing on it, so are taking risk out of it and they are bastardising the games contact as a result.

Nicky only up to 31 hard balls for the season? Woweee

I'm surprised that Worpel, Newcombe, Bont and Heeney are so low for hard ball gets. Anderson makes sense. None of these players are called squibs. Gawn basically gets none!

That is interesting data. The claims that Daicos had become a contested beast rather than just boosting his loose ball gets and gathers from hit outs were always silly, but it's not as if you can't be one of the best players in the league by dominating those stats.

In a dream midfield you simply have the hard ball winners alongside the ones who dominate the other categories.

Most surprised by Worpel. Bont, Newcombe and Heeney tend to be a bit more first receiver types than strictly in and under. Not to say they can't win it when they need to, but generally they look to get on the end of chains and deliver the ball for the team.

116 loose balls vs 31 hard balls is exactly what I expected from Nicky 'contested beast' Daicos.

Just proof that he's unwilling to stick his head over the ball
What's the explanation for Heeney, Bontempelli, etc.

It's almost as though the faster, better ball users have a much higher percentage of loose ball gets compared to hard ball gets...

Just proof that he's unwilling to stick his head over the ball and prefers scooping up loose ones in space.
Data looks pretty good to me - best in the league already at grabbing hitouts - those really easy possessions - as well as loose ball gets - half of which would become hard ball gets if he didn't have dancing feet so he doesn't get touched. Once he gets stronger - he'll be up there in hard ball gets too.

Looking at that, you must be a bit worried.

Third year player. First year of full time mid and the stats you posted show that he gets first possession from hitouts more than any other player in the league as well as being equal top in loose ball gets. So he's getting to the ball drop and also winning the race to loose balls.

But yes, he's not yet physically developed and can't yet match some others in push and shove or break as many tackles as the physically developed mids - progress in that regard has been pretty rapid though.

Belongs in a different thread but Taranto was concussed from what you a call a great, not even remotely dangerous tackle. He misses this week, hopefully no long term consequences.

So what? Incidents happen in a contact game. It was a great tackle, no aggression to hurt him only pace to chase him down.

Flogs like you are the reason the game is in trouble.

I also like how M.Christensen uses the now dead bump as a justification to kill the tackle, saying it took 15 years for people to accept it and that in time we will accept the death of the tackle in all but name.

They also showed almost identical tackles in 2 videos for dangerous and safe. The biggest variable was head hitting or not hitting the turf.

Anywho, it doesn't matter if there's aggression, the technique was still poor and Taranto is now concussed. Also the only reason Bedford got off is because the MRO/AFL legal are incompetent fools. He didn't beat the charge, he beat a legal technicality, exactly the same as when Cripps won the brownlow despite also concussing someone.

You can still bump, you can still aggressively tackle, you just can't target the head. The real reason the game is in trouble is all the constant rule changes by sHocking (stand, ruck nom, 666, kick out) that tie coaches hands and stifle tactical organic growth.

Thanks for playing the man guy with a reverse post to like ratio. Seems your comments aren't taken too seriously.

.

Nah it was different. Cripps was because the tribunal worded something poorly.

This was because the tribunal didn't test whether it was "likely to cause injury." - which it needs to be for a suspension under the rules. We won't know whether those tackles cop a tribunal suspension until another one gets done and they argue about whether the tackle was "likely to cause injury."

It shouldn't be a charge to begin with! and you are wrong, you can't aggressively tackle or bump.
The reason they got cited by the MRO was due to classification of careless and "excessive force" ie aggression.

You can still bump you say nah you can do a limp version of a bump and should you have incidental high contact you will go as they don't want you doing it.

Tackle is next they want hugs.

Nick not really liking todays wet hard fought conditions. Game is a bit to contested for him in the clinches which he refuses to go near.

If he's lucky he'll have a similar career to Mitch Morton. But right now he's barely skating by.
