Indeed... if the Port Magpies are supposed the new kid on the SANFL block, then Port Adelaide FC is its father.

We are the PAFC. The PAFC wore black and white in the 70's. Simple.
Exactly. Unfortunately, PAFC2004, the same situation was true last year, when it was the 80's round. What did we wear in the 80's? .. Hmmmmm .. The AFL's response? To ask us to wear a "training guernsey" .. Good grief. I have no confidence that the great minds in charge this year will be any better
We can only hope, and ask the Club to make strong representations (again), which to their credit they seem to be doing.
Alternately the Crows could wear the guernsey of the most successful club during the 1970s (sturt with 3 premierships) or they do not participate in heritage round until they have a 90s theme.
Just wear the prison bar one without telling the AFL ...what they gonna do ? throw us out? i think not
LOL, worst case scenario they never let us wear black and white in any guernsey again
Thats not a bad idea actually ,surely supporters of other Sanfl clubs would like to see their guernsey having a day in the sun .Could be used as a promotion for sanfl and said club (different one each year except port) for the next 8 years .
Much better than wearing a state guernsey ,the thought of victorians and sandgropers wearing our state guernsey makes me fill ill
Then they would have to apply the same rules to st kilda
It opens up a big can of worms, doesn't it?
I guess the rationale is that because the Crows were made as a broad-based club before Port came in, and with the SANFL creating the AFC, that wearing a replica state jumper is a better way of honouring the league that created them. But with that being said, I wouldn't like to see the Crows wear the current design that is being used today.
As for other SANFL club jumpers, would anyone from the eight clubs allow it? Leave out Port Adelaide -- its only fair, leave their history to them -- for a 70's theme... there's a few there to look at. North Adelaide would be up the top of the list IMO because of their 1972 season with the SA Premiership then the Champs of Australia victory.
Again... can of worms.
After making a stand (of sorts) last year by ignoring Heritage Week rather than wear a training jumper as required by the AFL the club is unlikely to give in and wear a training jumper this year.the clock's ticking - the deadline looming & sooner or later reebok just wont have the time left to turn the appropriate jumpers around in time - why cant the decision just be made tomorrow ffs? its either yes or no, but the AFL are deliberately drawing it out so other circumstances come into the equation - you know, training jumpers are ready & waiting....
who's to say the jumpers aren't ready as no matter what stupid decision the AFL makes about wearing them on the day the club can still make a point and money from them..........
maybe they are, but i doubt it.
furthermore i doubt the additional stock (of 100's, thousands??) intended to be sold to the public during that round wouldnt be.
we'll sue the AFL for discrimination & loss of potential income (replica jumper sales) if we're not allowed to wear what's ours, the precedent has been set with freo & the swans, why are we so different?
No we won't as it would be against what is in every team's licence with the AFL to be in their competition
GRANTED, so what the frig are the afl so worried about what collingwood think anyway???
There've been some refreshing comments from past Collingwood players on this issue in recent times. I was listening to the ABC on Saturday in the lead up to the game. It was the Melbourne based commentary team and they had Ray Shaw on. They asked him what he thought of the jumper issue and he stated he had no problem with Port wearing it.
He stated that Port and Collingwood were two very similar clubs with great traditions in their local comps and hated by everyone else. He felt that Port should be able to wear the black and white any time they weren't playing Collingwood. The only issue in his mind was that as Collingwood were the first to wear the black and white stripes in the AFL that they should "have first dibs" on it.
Given that there are a reasonable number of Collingwood stalwarts and supporters who are quite happy for Port to wear the prison bars in heritage week and that some like Ray Shaw are prepared to let PAFC wear the jumper in any games which don't involve Collingwood it's hard to understand why the AFL is holding out on the heritage week issue at the behest of the Eddie McGuires of this world.
