No Prison Bars for Heritage Round

I don't understand how two bitter rivals came together to form one club as such. It would have been like Norwood and Port coming together to form a team.

There was also a lot of controversy over there regarding the name. I remember it had something to do with Levi Stauss Jeans. They are not legally allowed to use the nickname "Dockers" but continue to do so.

It was strange living there at the time that the Shockers were given the license into the AFL. We all first thought that it would just be another new club formed like the Eagles not two clubs coming together to enter the AFL. I guess they thought that it would be easier to gain the licence that way but still continue to have their separate WAFL teams play.

I'll admit to being totally unaware how Fremantle works. So, given East and South Freo 'joined' forces to enter the AFL, how does the father-son apply to them? How do their reserves structure work? As in, Ports players get thrown around all over the SANFL. Do Freo's? Or do they always get channeled up and down into only South and East Freo?

Not sure how their reserves work anymore.. I do know that their coach John Worsfold and assistant coach Glen Jakovich both played for South Freo. Ashley Sampi is also on the South Freo list. The Matera brothers are from there too.

So Im not sure where their players go to when they are dropped. More than likely, sent to the various clubs like we do here in SA.

Father son rule in the WAFL is:
West Coast: Claremont, East Perth, West Perth or Subiaco
Fremantle: South Fremantle, East Fremantle, Perth or Swan Districts

Cheers spell_check. So, basically, eagles, dockers, crows AND power are treated as franchize teams? While the Vic teams' father-son rules are strictly based on their own team. Meanwhile, the reserves players of the Vic teams only go to their associated VFL team? No spreading around?

It's all beside the point anyway of heritage round.

Port should really put on the pressure now. For starters, like I suggested a couple of years back in this forum, they should change their practice gear into B/W prison bars and then swiftly introduce it as their warm up guernsey. I believe that the AFL, even if it had the Power, would not be able to stop Port donning their traditional strip at practice. Added to this, Port should also play a couple of "friendly" exhibition matches as part of pre-seasonal preparations in the prison bars. All off this should be within and even push the limits with a view to having the public at large more informed and involved in the issue and the AFL to make a stand that you cannot licence nor patent colours and colour combinations.

All good suggestions. The only thing maybe is that it's still beating around the bush. Kinda like a tween boy at a newsagent trying to buy a porno mag. Better to just chirp up and be cool about it.

Anyway...the thing I'm worried about is that the more the PAFC stays silent about it, the more it tries to plead with the AFL, the more it tries to market itself as teal and est 1996 (at the insistence of the AFL) etc, and other similar things, the more it seems Port MIGHT be pussy-footing away from the whole debate. And little chance we'll see PB ever as home guernsey. Which is a travesty I believe even all these years in the AFL. I know all the reasons and arguments why, and I concede many of them are right. But to hell with all that anyway, I hold the PB very highly and dearly and no matter the new and young fans, by God they'll learn to love it too.

The whole PAFC changing with the times, teal-centric, and the loss of the Fos creed etc etc, all these things which defined Port as much as the name or the past successes. Just stuff IMO should never be tampered with. Emulate Essendon's religious attachment to their guernsey and heritage. We seem to be playing too much of a marketing game. Really getting out there trying to appeal to people with dodgy things like the inflatable fist etc instead of the mere presence of our club and team and guernsey and on-field glories speaking for themselves, inspiring youths to be our fans and LEARN about our history in the process, LEARN to embrace the PB, etc.

Im only critical because I love Port to death.

I hope i can post this without getting another red card.

Look at it from the AFLs perspective, they own the branding rights to Collingwood, this jumper is a major asset, it sells 10-1 compared to most other clubs, Dale Thomas jumper sells 15-1 compared to 95% of other AFL players, thats a 2nd year player. Its supporter base is the biggest in Australia, it sells tickets, merchandise like no other. Its supporters are obsessed with their Black and White, they love it, they bleed it they are black and white, always have been always will be. Some of these supports cannot even watch the bigger games as they are scared of heart attacks, the black and white make grown men cry and have for a century. Do you honestly think the AFL have any right to let anyone else wear these colors, nor would under these circumstances?

As for port they are a new club to Australia, they are failing in allot of areas, they dont have a high membership, they do not sell many seats and the do not sell much merchandise. They are 1 of 2 clubs in a football crazy state yet they fail to lure more members. Why is it because they are hated because of their heritage? do south Australians reject power because they are affiliated with the port magpies? the powers supporters are in an identity crisis, they need to accept and respect that Collingwood are black and white.
Port need to push their own brand and start to make some progress off field for its future, not their past as its not going to be enough to survive or compete in the national comp once things start changing. The big 4 are getting richer and richer, bigger and bigger and all the other interstate teams including fremantle are doing the same, port are becoming lost. You are not Port Magpies you do not wear black and white, you are port power start being proud of your team and stop looking to the past for glories. All your doing is alienating people with your crappy disrespectful bs, its pathetic. You won a flag, you should be wearing that jumper for your heritage round, even if it is the 70s, thats your clubs greatest achievement, some teams have been waiting 50 years for that one fine day. Think about the bigger picture..

Port power are the newest AFL club i think? or is it freo, anyway thats what i was referring too mate. Trust you to try and pick out a negative cheap shot in my post

You sir are a tool!!!!!!! Your heritage is - you are a tool!!!!

DO NOT tell us what our heritage is, FULLSTOP.

You might??? know more about the wobbles than us but you DO NOT know anything about the Port Adelaide Football Club. Keep your drivel to Bay 13 or post sensible arguments.

If your supporters are so die hard then why would the AFL be worried about a DIFFERENT jumper to your b+w stripes. We aren't interested and never have been interested in your b+w jumper.

We just want to wear what WE were wearing in the 70s.

If you dont like it - ......well insert any form of derogative you loike here.

In short GO AWAY you tool!!!

Who are "Port Power"

BTW Freo joined the AFL in 1995, the PAFC (established 1870) joined the AFL in 1997.

The Heritage Round is one round. If you think that Port wearing a black and white prison bar guernsey for one round will affect the sales of Collingwood guernseys than you must have a very low opinion of the intelligence of Collingwood supporters. Other than the colours there is no comparison between the Collingwood guernsey and the PAFC guernsey circa 1970.

As for port they are a new club to Australia...
Refer my previous post.

... they are failing in allot of areas, they dont have a high membership, they do not sell many seats and the do not sell much merchandise.....
Proof please.

.... You are not Port Magpies you do not wear black and white ..
Correct, the PAFC is not the PAMFC. Other than getting that point correct you show a total ignorance of this subject. The PAFC did wear black and white through out the 1970's and up until entering the AFL.

.... you are port power...
Who are "Port Power"

Fancy the club insanely unfairly denying us the right to wear our heritage coming here to advise and console us, cheer us up with "abandon your past, embrace your future, whatever you were in the past is inferior as it wasn't Victorian".

You guys and your team won't earn any respect from anyone until you change your tune.

You can not earn respect from a club that not only stole and brought our players.....they came across the border, stole our colours and our magpie - turned it the other way around so it look like "their magpie:rolleyes: " - **** Collingwood, bunch of fools who most of these posting cant even or HAVE NOT EVEN seen their club win a premiership in any league in their age bracket!! WTF would they know, they cant tell us jack shit......because that is all they know SHIT!!! **** Them!!!

settle down when you joined our league you must have known we where going to continue to be the magpies and wear black and white, what are you even thinking. Port Power or Port Adelaide Power have never won a SANFL flag, you have won 1 VFL turned AFL flag. Why would you even think we would let you wear our colors and the AFL seems to agree, its a waste of everyones time. Get over it, we have :thumbsu:

**** off ya dingbat.

Mods do we have to put up with this moron on our board. Surely his tripe is better suited to bay13. The reason I dont go to bay13 is to avoid dropkicks like this moron.

Are you that thick? Do you realise that the VFL was a STATE LEAGUE? It's a national competition now, deal with it.

And either way, it doesn't matter when we JOINED the AFL. We were offered the licence by the AFL while we were in the SANFL. Can you explain to me how the Power came to be otherwise? Idiot, your lack of knowledge is quit embarrassing.

Port Power or Port Adelaide Power have never won a SANFL flag, you have won 1 VFL turned AFL flag.

Port Power or Port Adelaide Power haven't got their name on any AFL or SANFL premiership cups - never have and never will.

The name of the club on our SANFL premierships and AFL premiership is Port Adelaide Football Club.......anyone that cannot acknowledge that loses all respect as far as Port Adelaide Football Club members and supporters are concerned.

Obviously you like being in that group.........

The only thing your post clarified is that you have no idea!

You where an offshoot of the Port Magpies obviously, but your a completely different club now, different song, different colors, different players and different coach, different history. Your SANFL flags dont count in the AFL, but VFL flags do as it was just a smaller competition. The AFL gave you a license as the Port Adelaide Power not Magpies get over it, different clubs ;)
