Wonder what Cornes will say
“Luke Beveridge has to go for this performance. The way he over inflated the Powers ego during the season, he can’t stay. Ken deserves a ten year extension for getting them that close to the Cats given what Bevo did.”

Haven’t been watching the game, but do we think that Butters will be right to go next week? Huge if not.

They reckon it's a rib complaint. Unlikely to be fully recovered in one week but will probably play wearing a mattress

Shame to see our single pick for Bailey Smith fall to 15 or worse.

One side of the story that gets ignored when we say Geelong are approaching the cliff is that they have absolutely nailed some of their recent drafts.

All playing tonight:

Max Holmes - pick 20 in 2020
Jack Henry - a rookie pick in 2017
Lawson Humphries - pick 63 in 2023
Shaun Mannagh - pick 36 in 2023
Gryan Miers - Pick 57 in 2017
Tyson Stengle - DFA in 2021
Zac Guthrie - rookie pick 33 in 2017
Tom Atkins and Brad Close (both playing tonight) - rookie picks in 2022
Oliver Dempsey - rookie pick in 2022
That's 5 rookies, a DFA, 3 picks outside the top 30 and a late first rounder for a bloke who's looking like one of the top 10 in the AFL.

Add to that having Gold Coast pay Geelong for taking Jack Bowes off their hands.

Add to that Tim Kelly for pick 24 in 2017 and then traded for a king's ransom to West Coast.
And Sam de Koning - Pick 19 in 2019.
You could even add the much maligned Gary Rohan who now has a premiership medallion.
And as of 2025, Bailey Smith.

Yes they've had a few misses (eg Shaun Higgins) but very few compared to their massive hits.

Not only the best coach in the AFL but possibly the best list management team too.
Forgot to add that apart from Jhye Clark in 2022 (pick 8) Geelong hasn't had a single-digit pick since Joel Selwood (pick 7) in 2007.

I know they have brought in some big names like Dangerfield and Cameron on eyebrow-raising deals but that's still pretty remarkable.

They get a massive leg up every year with their bullshit home ground advantage. No wonder they make finals almost every other year.

Has there been a better kick of the ball stylistically than Cameron. Just flushes everything
Beautiful to watch
It was even more beautiful watching Fletcher Roberts keep him to 5 touches and goalless in the 2016 prelim. Hopefully Lobby gets the chance to do the same to him again in a big final.

Geelong are just an incredibly well-run organisation. It can't just be the coach. If Chris Scott coached North and Essendon he'd just be Brad Scott. I also don't think most of their players would be as good as they are if they played for other clubs. There's something about that club that just brings out the best in people, which is why they are happy to take the Stengles and Bailey Smiths. It doesn't work for everyone (see Luke Dahlhaus and Jack Steven) but their misses usually cost them very little and are outweighed by the rewards. As far as pure, individual talent goes I don't think they have more than the league average. But as a team they are just unbelievably good.
