In some good news from today, Andrew Dillion has confirmed that following today's CEO & chairman's meeting, the wildcard round isn't going to be making an appearance anytime soon with further discussion required

I'm guessing the AFL was told it was a stupid idea with no relevance, but they aren't quite ready to admit defeat and will instead allow it to fade out of memory
