Regarding the McClelland trophy, it's the second year of new format, incorporating both the AFL & AFLW comps

We've got to remember that the McClelland trophy has gone through different iterations over the years since its inception in 1951

It's only been since 1991 that the trophy was been awarded to the club that finished first on the AFL ladder

Prior to that it was awarded to the club with the best overall performance across multiple teams - seniors, reserves and under-19s

I can see why they've decided to bring it back to more inline with that previous format in terms of overall club performance with the combination of AFL & AFLW performance. It would be great if they got a genuine reserves comp up & running again, and they could then add that component into the again revised McClelland trophy criteria

Hawthorn just won the McClelland Trophy having finished 7th on the men's ladder and 2nd for the women. That is ridiculous. I think they give double points for the women's wins.

My point is that the top of the ladder team in the AFL should be rewarded with silverware that is worth winning in the eyes of the fans and the club, and not just a money prize. That team has proved itself to be the best over the home and away season, and pre 1897 that was sufficient to win the flag, and up to 1930, that team had a right of challenge if it didn't make the Grand Final. Giving the top of the ladder team an extra draft pick would make it a valuable thing to win, and clubs would have the chance to win two pieces of silverware instead of one.

It's a leaked image. Photo of a photo type stuff. It's not a great design, but made worse by the poor image quality.

I think Collingwood's last trip to KP for points was in 1999 - a year when neither club was in a good position, on or off field...

Should be done regardless. Not saying they have to do it every year - we're only going to get 8-9 games, but all clubs should get their turn. Not just the bottom 4 clubs and interstate teams.
