Any danger of everyone bagging the usual suspects and ask the question why cant the Number 1 Ruckman stay on the ground longer than 6 mins at a time???? Good consistant ruckman go the distance....Grundy, Witts, O'brien the list goes on.. They all stay on the ground for long periods so it tells me Nic Nat fitness is way below standards. Anyone agree?

It's mostly positive for me..too early to spit the dummy, melt the cheese and fold the club.
Hurn - the consummate professional..
Barrass - take a bow...
Redden - went to another level..I withdraw my criticism for the time being.
Old man Kennedy - silences the critics for the umpteenth time!
Jermy Jones - had far more impact than Patchy Petch! He's in...
Ryan, it's not for lack of tryin'...
NN - the one-eyed battered warhorse, sad if he doesn't get a medal. Mate, lose some kegs!
TK - not brilliant, like most was hampered by their speed...
Duggan - underwhelming..building?
Gaff - not today, or yesterday...when?
Langdon - might do the tough things like tackle hard, but looks too slow..

We were right in the game for most of the match, even though we were sharked at the tap and 2nd to the ball and fumbly. Shuey'd be the difference (let alone Yeo)
Could've gone our way, the little things that add up and bite you on the bum at the end.
It seems pretty churlish to blame a single person for the loss, when there were numerous incidents, on both sides, including umpiring, that could've helped us over the line, but were negated by lady bad luck! But yeh, kicking into the mark seems popular with the boys?
It's only round 2, we look solid but a little rusty with team chemistry/skills.
Shuey back might straighten us up.
Need Bailey in, or a tall mid...or Vardy to improve bigly and quickly?

He spent 73% TOG yesterday- all of it in the ruck, none of this resting in the forward line business.
He is a big impact player and we do need to find a better way to spread the remaining 30% rucking because having a useless spud clogging up the bench is hurting us. That said, there would be very few around here that would swap him for any other ruckman in the game.
I don't think his managed time is as much about aerobic capacity as it is preserving his body, especially knees.

What did Simpson say at the post match press conference? Surely a least one journalist must have asked the question about Cripps kicking into the man on the mark and killing our momentum, and really, costing us the game

Not disagreeing with you I'm just putting it out there. He has been ' Managed ' for far too long for my liking. Why wouldnt you rest him up forward???? If he can jump liker he does in middle not one club can match 4 talls in the forward line.

If his fitness was up to standards I'm sure he would be up forward but the question needs to be asked, is he not rated as a forward ?? Confuses me !!!

2 reasons- firstly they are managing time on legs so he needs to be off them. That wont change- they will do that for the remainder of his career.
Secondly with 3 other talls up there, another one makes our forward line too tall and small defenders find it easier to run the ball out. It needs to be balanced and having all of JK, JD Allen and a resting ruck means if that ball hits the ground we are in trouble. As it is, we would probably be better with another pressure small forward there but those 3 mentioned are too good not to have playing.

People are pretty quick to kill Cripps for missing that goal, but for me, the swing in the momentum was a horror Kelly turnover in the last quarter...running down the wing with the ball, no pressure on the kick but hits a nest of Dogs. They run down and kick a goal. very deflating for the team momentum.

We came up against arguably the competition's best midfield, which is the area in which we are most depleted right now. And we almost won.

Viewing the game in isolation sure it was very disappointing to lose, but not so bad in terms of the season. Good signs and a lot to take into this week's game.

The doggies spanked the Pies, who handled Carlton pretty easily, who took it right up to Richmond.

Doing the math, Eagles > Reigning premiers.

No.
Impact on results is what counts.

I agree. It was disappointing to lose, but the way both teams went about it makes me think they're on track for big things this year. Reminded me a lot of the Rnd 1 game in 2015 (which we lost narrowly) with some people were writing us off because Bulldogs had been shit for years. They ended up finishing 5th or 6th (highest finish ever under Bevo in H&A) and we played in the GF.

Two wrongs dont make a right. We blew it. And the umpire was garbage as it was in most games.
I spent 100km on the bike this morning to clear away the game. Some perspective. Away game. Missing from our best 22 Yoe, Shuey, Willie and Venables. (Different circumstances but all quality we cannot replace.) Exactly the type of capability we missed. You could make an arguement for Waterman and a few othets but to me it isnt as clear.

Its not just the Cripps moment though (bad as it was) - if there was a stat for kicking into the man then we would be leading it at the end of Round 2. WTF is going on? In our desire to move the ball quickly are we not getting enough separation on the mark? Its mind-boggling! In a time where the man with the ball is given every advantage from the new rule, we have somehow invented a whole new method to lose games from it!

A win would have covered a lot of our issues.

Hope the loss burns

Like all the other losses that should have burned since 2018?

*deep breath*

Losing to Collingwood and Richmond by bugger all in 2019. Then getting smashed by Hawthorn when top 4 was on the line.
Shitting the bed in Hub 1.0, losing to the Doggies when top 4 was on the line, then losing a home final in 2020.

But yeah, hopefully this one is different for some reason.

I suspect the club doesnt "burn" after losses. Simmo doesnt strike me as the type of coach who plays up the emotional side of the game very often. He's very "business as usual".

Yep, against GC there were 2 that gave up goals (Kennedy and Kelly?)

Yesterday Kelly did it again going I50, Cripps from 15m out, and Darling also?

It needs to be addressed immediately as it costs us goals.

Important centre bounce clearance we should have gotten in the last where Bontempelli just drops the ball in a Naitanui tackle. Were still up by a goal at that point. Should have been an i50.

Yep, that was another shocker. Just pay the free kicks, reward the tackler, it's not difficult.

If only it worked that way.
