Autopsy Positives and Negatives vs Carlton

If we get a home final, should we play it at Optus, Adelaide Oval or somewhere in Melbourne?

+ As always, after an early challenge we settled and ran the show.
+ Ryan immense
+ Shep was terrific
+ Yeo giving Cripps a bath
+ Hickey
+ Nelson quietly impressive, yet again.
+ Accuracy in Q2 and Q3. As efficient as ever when we’re at our best.
+ Not too much to take away long term really, but four points is four points
+ Geelong’s loss means we are in complete control of our top two destiny. Percentage will be irrelevant if we win out.

- Wasteful last quarter. Really could have turned the screw and put up a 10 goal win. Ends up being very unremarkable. Really silly, big waste. Percentage will be very relevant if we fail to win out.
- AFL House riding Carlton like Makybe Diva. At least disguise it guys, some of the most mystifying umpiring going.

A strange game all in all where we were so clearly superior but the score board doesn’t reflect that at all. Our clinical best is scary, just want to see more of it.

A net positive day at the office, but a bit flat by the end.

Positive: great win in Melbourne again. Yeo is better than cripps. Liam Ryan....

Negatives: umpires ****ing us hard, giving up second spot from lazy half arsed football in the last 10 minutes

Pretty.much sums up.my thoughts too.
Carlton were good, we were.very good and the score.line flatters the Blues. And.yes some.of the umpiring, well I've.come.to expect this shit. The throws and incorrect disposals are.the biggest gripe while we.get pinged without prior.
I reckon we finish the rest of the season undefeated from here so % shouldn't be an issue.

+ yeo looked like a man with something to prove .. definitely a bigger dog than Cripps. Cripps will learn from this, he's a a superstar.
+ Got the win in melb again against a blues outfit who are not the worst team going around
+ Ryans mark
+ Gaffs gut running is unparalleled in the AFL
+ Hickey competing well and picking up touches

- terrible last quarter, ruined any chance of increase in %
- too many easy clearances allowed
- defenders trying cute kicks that don't come off will hurt come finals time
- letting potatoes like Newman and Gibbons kick bags is unfortunate
- darling is a lottery when kicking for goal
- nonstop Carlton barracking in the comms box

Frustrating finish... but it is a hard slog. Unlike some teams, we have to get on a plane every second week!
Some fantastic pieces of play, when we were in control of the game, we looked great. Ryan is a star. Yeo brilliant. Redden and Shuey excellent. A down game from Sheed, hopefully he will bounce back next week. Kudos to Hickey also.

Petch and Cameron are the ones in most danger, competition between them to keep their spot with Cripps coming back. They both can have an impact, but just don’t get a lot of the ball. We can only “carry” one...

Just disappointed that we missed some simple shots late in the game and let Carlton get some easy goals throughout the game and late. Was the percentage booster that got away... :(
Sheed had an absolute shocker today, hope he bounces back next week.

Only saw the last quarter and don't really need to talk about how frustrating that was.

If I get bored today I might tally up how many times we've led at 3/4 time by 30+ points only to lose the last quarter. Must be 5 or 6 this year?

Yeo is clearly far and away the biggest positive for me

We backed our man in to beat a guy who's considered in a lot of quarters to be the best midfielder in the comp, head to head.

And he did.

I hope the all Australian selectors are paying attention, because all of a sudden Cripps vaunted one on one strength counted for f#$k all today

We put two bulls in the paddock, and our bull won

We're going through patches almost every game where we can't stop the opposition winning virtually every clearance for 10-15 minutes straight.

Against weaker sides we can weather the storm and correct it but it could be lethal against Richmond or Brisbane.

Yep, this worries me a little. We did that last year, even in the GF, but I feel we're doing it a bit more. Do think we've tightened that up a bit at least, but need to be more ruthless.

positives:

we retained the Kennedy-Judd Cup
Yeo won the Masten-Notte medal
Hickey had another great game, he is one of our most crucial players
I've never been more impressed with Nelson - that chase is possibly his best play in the AFL
no injuries

negatives:

wasteful in front of goal in 2nd half
butchered quite a few open plays where we had numbers
Ollen was found out a bit today in the ruck
don't normally complain about umpiring, but it seemed today a lot of the bad decisions favouring carlton directly resulted in goals
Masten has dropped off from his recent purple patch
(that 1 point loss to the Pies has cost us top!?)

Great to have Hurn back, looked a little off his usual high standard though
