Positives and Negatives vs Charli...Carlton

Shuey will remain the worst captain we have ever had. And will remain as a model of that not to do as captain

A captain need to be out there but 50 percent of Shuey captaincy has been on the sideline.

Shuey reluctance to do that right thing in stepping down is anotjer black mark.

Glass knew when time up. Cousins as well
Blame the team for nominating him. He said he wanted to step down last year.

I agree with Glass. Cousins though I suspect there wasn't a huge amount of his say in passing it on

Was that when Cuz was half way across the river?

Positives
  • Really excited about Hewitt
  • That was genuinely a very good game from Gaff, good on him for sticking with it.
  • Long bobbed up again with some nice plays

Neutral
  • Like seeing Chesser getting more of the ball, but feel like he loses touch with his player too easily around stoppages and lots of missed tackles.
  • Really shaky early but Bazzo got better in the second half and took some nice marks

Neg
  • Some truly atrocious handballs
  • Sad seeing Shuey go out like this, would have been nice if he could have played out the year and got to 250. Surely has to retire at the end of the year.
  • The second half was better but we just have to get out of more first quarters / halves without the game being over....

Today shaped as a day where a few myths were busted:

  • Shuey might not get injured again and can play on. Finally the myth that he can get his body right and play on has been busted.
  • Cripps is still the player he was 2 years ago. 4th game back from injury and a thorough “no show” performance. Will only keep a kid like Long out of the 22 if he goes on.
  • Gaff is finished. Had an opportunity to play his natural outside game and excelled. Put paid to his bad form when asked to play inside in the absence of others. No need to fast track a contract payout.
  • We won’t go backward after trading Barrass. I support the trade but supporters need to expect opposition KF’s to have a field day in 2024 and beyond unless we get creative. Cannot rely on Gov to play 22. No depth in this role beyond those 2. Gonna be uncompetitive until we answer this puzzle.

Positive - Chesser and Maric developing

Negative - Eagles did or came close to winning the second half essentially masking the deep seated issues the club has. Sack the coach and coaching staff ASAP. Shuey cant play on either, RIP club legend.
Not sure winning or nearly winning the second half is the mask you think it is.

Calm down.

Not his fault.

Body failing him is only partly from the "his body can't cope anymore mantra". Don't underestimate the stress of being captain in a shit show like this having an enormous toll on all of the physiological factors that promote injury and poor healing.

Blame the coaches for playing him in the middle again. The same will happen to Yeo next time he plays, simmo will chuck him straight into centre and bang him up all over again.

Sheuy doing the write thing is putting the guy busting effort you saw today. Perhaps there's a few others that need to follow there captain.

Not Xon, but Winder - he has been good again today, his li2 games back from injury have been great.

Haven't seen the game as it's not on FTA.

What sort of game did Gaff play? Outside all the time? Rotating in the guts?

Hell sad to read about Shuey but not surprised unfortunately. I think he is surely done now, Naitanui should probably walk as well.

Hurn still has it but I dare say he probably has had enough.

- first half effort
-Shuey finishing up like this

  • Second half effort
  • Youngsters doing some nice things
  • Season is nearly done

Well that was brutal to watch. Man Carlton supporters are a lippy bunch. Haven’t made finals in 10 years but gee they like to talk shit like they’ve just accomplished something. You beat up on the disabled kid, good on ya Carlton.

Also even though the effort was better in the second half it was clear to see Carlton wasn’t trying as hard.

The kids, all of them
Simmo revving up the pea hearts at half time to win the second half
I hate to say it but Gaff had a good game
Petch
Maric

Simmo haters know nothing else but to blame everything on Simmo
Curnow getting a big gap on the Coleman
Pressure
Tackling
Duggan
Sheed

So Simmo gets credit for the 2nd half effort due to the rev up, a shame he could not rev them up to start the game, but i guess it's all the players fault.

You don't happen to manage a Hungry Jacks out Carlisle way do you?

Another insipid start to a game, this on both the coach and the player, as it is 50/50, if the coach cannot get them breathing fire from the start and the players are not prepared to have some personal pride in their performance, then we are well and truly rooted.

Watching from behind the goals today, and from the first bounce their was zero urgency from any player, Carlton did what they liked, you can lack ability, but chasing and pressuring should be at the minimum required as a professional, and should be set by your leaders for the youngsters to follow, not the other way around, sadly for us that is how it is, and our piss weak coach refuses to call them out on it.

Ps. **** Gaff

McGovern...nic Nat.. and any other overpaid campaigner who has brought nothing to this team can **** off too...

Time to move on from these salary wasters

Shuey offered to step down, it was the players that wanted him to stay as captain.
