Autopsy Positives and Negatives vs Richmond

A very promising hitout. Tigers blitzed us late in the second term but the rest of the game was a real arm wrestle which is encouraging. Post bye Eagles showing plenty and not folding like pre bye Eagles.

Positives
• More good intent and we owned the second half which, given how the first half finished, was vital. Didn’t drop the bundle like we’ve seen so many times pre bye.

Tim Kelly’s best game. Phenomenal output.

• Hough again started like a house on fire, will be a massive asset once he adds the tank.

• Waterman good. Trew first goal. Cripps immense. Barrass huge. Nic Nat - lol what a freak. Petch really good.

• On Petch, it was nice to see him play on ball for massive stretches of footy. Not because I think it’s the way of the future, but because it again shows we’re using what’s left of this season to experiment and build.

• SPS showed plenty since coming on. Lock him in the side!

• Shuey was really good, which we need if he’s going to consistently play on ball.

• Moved the ball well off half back, and then owned the clearances after half time. Nice to see we can do both in the same game.

Negatives
• Conceded too much. Accuracy was unbelievably ****ed and the umps got to the point of kicking it for them, but long term of course that’s too much to concede.

• Yeo injury, Jones in MRP trouble perhaps?

• Duggan. Directly cost two goals off his boot and broke down the movement a few more times. Throw him in the WAFL as a midfielder for a spell.

20.8 to 13.15 with that umpiring? Perfect result. Plenty to be pleased about and Pick 2 isn’t in jeopardy.

Obviously there’s things to tidy up but Tigers are now 7-2 in their last nine games and we were right in that up to our eyeballs. Looking forward to more growth and now very excited for next year.

A frustrating game in the sense we played some diabolical footy at times, highlighted by repeated opposition scores from turnovers, contrasted with some genuinely pleasing fast, rebounding and attacking footy.

Positives:
  • Kelly had a day out. I wish we could see this more consistently.
  • Cripps ran hard all day, applied pressure, tackled hard and scored three snags.
  • Hough is a genuine young gun.
  • Trew had a good third quarter.
  • Hurn turned back the clock and had a great game.
  • Barrass had some great spoils and contested marks.

Negatives:
  • Yeo injury. Poor guy can’t take a trick.
  • Gaff had a poor game.
  • West tried hard, scored a goal, but very quiet.. probably because of his placement on the half forward line.
  • Duggan had some shocking turnovers.
  • Inconsistency in front of goals cost us big time.
  • Turnovers…. My goodness.
  • Umps had a couple of genuine shockers.
  • Commentators calling the game like it was a Dustin Martin fan fic.

Overall I didn’t expect much from us, and we were genuinely in it for parts of the match, so not disappointed with the game today.

At the start of the year I said all I wanted was gallant losses and today was incredibly gallant and the players and coaches should hold their heads high.

We might not win but without the VFL ****ery we put the fright of god into a finals team whilst sitting in 17th. Some really good signs and some indiciations of players who really don’t have a spot next year.

Bravo boys, happy supporter here.

13:15 very unlike us. 2 posters didn't help. They just had too much run for us in the end. Thought SPS was OK when he came on. We still lack pace even with a smaller team today. Kudos to Cripps and Kelly. Thought Trew was OK, and worth persisting with.
Bailey not up to it.

Commentators Dusty love "Dusty, Dusty oh Dusty"

I think today will put the "Duggo for our next captain" argument to bed.

57-53 inside 50s. Won the battle for a change (can all you dopey campaigners agree to never besmirch Nic ever again?) but also shows we’re allowing too many on the turnover.

Seriously need to tidy up skills and you’d say that will come with more purposeful/quick run in the side, and simply more confidence.

I mentioned at half time we have 10 not up to it. Somebody commented that it was harsh. My assessment was based on outcomes, effort, decision making, slow thinking, panic, skill etc. All try and all give something but the following (at half time when the game had been decised) are not up to being part of a truly competative AFL team. This doesnt consider fanboy popularity, or nice guy factors. We lost the winable.

Ryan and Willie - flashey but not fit and only work when it suits them. Ryan kicked poorly and gifted a goal. Generally most of our forwards were one way runners.
Williams - we have to find a ruckman. Works hard.
Waterman - gets a few when left alone, cannot defend and slows play and kicked poorly.
Allen - great tryer but outclassed
Duggan and Redden - butcher the ball and cost us a few goals goals. Duggan is flasher at times.
Trew- showed abit after half time - may develop.
Rotham - god knows
Basso - great prospect but not a KPD yet. Great potential.

You cant carry that many.
The aging players did a great job with help. JJ and Hough in particular. SPS when he came on.
The umpiring was pathetic but not as bad as our kicking and lack of team defence (most of the time).
Even Darling who works hard up the field to mark thens ponders and slowes down any momentum. When he doesn't he is great, long handball in particular.
