Autopsy Positives and Negatives vs Richmond

After the first half I called for trew to be delisted. But he played well in the third quarter. However 17 CBA for 1 centre clearance for a guy who's only role in the side is as that player after 2 years on the list is probably not good enough. He has the size and that's his speciality.

He would need to put in a couple more games as good or better than this to get a contract extension.
I didn’t think Trew’s second half was as good as some are making out, but in fairness on this point - there’s only one centre clearance available per CBA.

Someone with twice my brain cells (i.e. two) could probably work this out correctly but I’d be interested to see how many were ’available’ for Trew. As in, Kelly and Shuey had 11 centre clearances combined, I wonder how many of those came alongside Trew. Centre clearances that we won with him out there are still a win.

For me it’s just pleasing that they’re kicking the tyres on a guy and doing so in the middle of the park, not awkwardly shoehorned in on the HFF.

TK was really good after being unsighted in the first quarter.

AFL, more than any other sport I can think of, really seems to have the umpires punish sides that aren't very good. When you are down the bottom they find the most esoteric ways to punish you. We have certainly benefitted from it when we've been up and we are on the receiving end now we are down.

The late treatment of the Gold Coast comes to mind.

Man, I'm deflated by their two close losses. I was really excited for their chance of making finals.

+ I was actually surprised and pleased with Petch's defensive efforts in this game, he got three HTB decisions if i remember... Still goes missing too much though

- West. where was he all day? seriously, you would read the stats and think he got injured in the second quarter!

Negatives
Ryan's set shot goal kicking. For someone that has a great field kick his set shot is nothing like it. He stiffens up and just looks so uncomfortable kicking it.

Commentators / TV crew. Didn't mention or replay the Soldo kick trip or Vlaustins elbow. Guaranteed if the roles were reversed they would have banged on about it as much as Dusty being injured.

Pos- DUSTY.
How good is he. Such an incredible player and how Richmond held on to win when this legend of a player went down with "We are gonna win this so let's put the man the Legend on ice" awareness, was amazing.
If you were not aware just how good DUSTY is after that monumental 1st half effort you certainly would be after watching that.

AND RICHMOND WON WITHOUT HIM PLAYING IN THE 2ND HALF.

Did Eagles lose anyone for the 2nd half, not sure. didn't hear anything.

A moment I really liked was in the 4th quarter. The game was done but Hough got the ball on the wing, was tackled, but had enough core strength and confidence to shrug the tackler off his hips. Don’t think he would have shrugged off that tackle earlier in the season but it shows just how nicely he is progressing. Can’t wait to see how he is going after a couple of pre-seasons and he fills out. Could be an absolute weapon if he’s already doing stuff like that now with his slight frame.

Stuck on a forward flank all day, as demonstrated by his absence from that list of CBAs.

Just because we are on the West Coast board IMO when Dusty gets compared to Ablett and Judd he is substantially overrated.
Yes he does have the potential to turn a game on its head, but it has been many years since Dusty was in the top 10 players in the comp during the home and away season. Heck, Naitanui cops a lot of flack but his 2020 and 2021 seasons were at least twice as good as Dusty's and yet Dusty is still in consideration for the best player in the competition. Ditto Steele from St Kilda. It's not 2017-2018 anymore when Dusty was having that impact week in week out.
I know Dusty turns it on in finals but we cannot isolate a player's careers (certainly in comparison to other elites) simply to finals (where Judd and Ablett were also considered elite).

Don't think anyone rates Cole as elite, but we are lacking a proper lock-down small defender and he's the closest/best we currently have on the list.
True enough, certainly has experience racked up and used to provide some drive out of the back...

After dishing Petch a bit, he showed some improvement, some dare and kicked a goal on the run!
Actually, it's great to see a few players now kicking goals on the run from around the 50 arc!

Foley should play over witherden every day of the week .

Foley is hard at it accountable defender who may not have the kicking penetration of witho also doesn't turn it over as much .

For me rotham and yeo out for

HEdwards has to come in for Mackay matchup

Basso takes 3rd tall

Foley in as next best to cover yeo

B Bazzo Hedwards hurn
HB Jones Barrass duggan
Foley/Hough
Foley has very little awareness of what’s around him and often gets caught out. I have seen him take the game on occasionally and think there is some hope but then he reverts to just loping around with no apparent purpose. My lasting memories of him in most games is being the one late on the scene and manning the mark similarly to what Priddis did for quite a while. I would dearly like him to use a bit of pace as he’s not slow but he just seems to play within himself. Nelson is doing the same despite showing promise a couple of years ago. Witherden does try and at least tries to open the game up but he is slow and is not supported by other backs

Dumb not to be close to Daniel - he wa over 5m away and tracking a different line.
Disagree. Ryan was a couple of metres behind him and tracking him when Rioli veered right and towards centre. Unfortunately Ryan then got distracted by Reiwoldt moving well off his line and stopped moving. Umpire was slack not calling play on but then had no choice but to pay 50

Where was West? Playing in a forward pocket!

Definitely the same in Rugby League. My team has been down the bottom since the early 2000’s. Constantly get shat on by the officials

Not only is Vlastuin a grub for elbowing West but he throws his head back like a sook when there’s no major contact (one against Waterman in his first mark and the other when Ryan tackled him after the behind kick in fell short).

Huddo the knob reckons he was stiff not to get a free for the latter. Ryan’s arm went no where near over the shoulder. Flogstuin just flopped his melon backwards playing for the free to try and get away with a bad kick. Shows where the commentary team’s allegiances were.

He also “clumsily” fell right on top of Waterman both times in the first quarter after being out marked by him.

  • effort. The guys are finally showing that they don't give up
  • trew. Liked what I saw
  • Kelly
  • cripps have was terrific

  • rushing and poor decision making forward of centre
  • inaccuracy helped get the tigers tails up
  • Duggan
  • Richmond walked it out of their backline at times
  • Willie. This might be unfair, but he looked a liability in forward half pressure

Gaff unfairly maligned. He does a lot of unrewarded running. Maybe it's the spots he's getting to, but he isn't getting used

Maybe he gets to the ‘spots’ too late.

His lack of leg speed and penetration kicking ain’t going to help as we move to a faster ball movement game style. Geez, reckon I’d have a chance of chasing him down and I’m well past my prime.

Negative - even the club can’t tell Ryan and Rioli apart

Five things we learned against the Tigers

4. The work rate of high half-forward Jamie Cripps is always a key aspect of the Eagles’ game plan. Sometimes he does a mountain of running with little reward but this time capped off his game with three goals. He and the other forwards also enjoyed a rare advantage from the inside 50 count (57-53) with Liam Rioli, Jack Darling – in his 250th game – and Willie Rioli all hitting the scoreboard.

I wonder if the hired BT to do the review?

It didn't appear to be timing southcoast, more like the team wants to attack but Gaff is looking for the dinky little 20mtr chip up... the opposition appeared happy to let him go there without bothering to man him up
