Every team that wins the premiership gets shagged at some stage with salary cup issues. Losing the biggest salary at the club effectively alleviates this from ever happening and the team disintegrating. Eagles premiership window is still open and if the number 3 pick (will be a midfielder) can step up quickly and Kennedy provides a marking key position forward which we haven't had since Sumich, a very real possibility. Lets not forget that it is our forward line which has been our achilles heel. Then with 4-5 top 20 picks, hopefully the return of a fit Sampi, the window may get extend from 2-3 years to a continuous 5-6 years.

I think our future is bright.

The forward players are not the problem, the forward coaching is the problem. Put a structure in place which eliminates leading to the boundary and we will be fine.
But Woosha will do nothing as usual and continue to play 8 or more of his players in the forward 50. Still is the only club that sets up like this.
Forward structure is required, it would make no difference if we had Lockett, the set up is shit.

Good Post Sanchez... I agree

We've got enough depth in the midfield to cover judd leaving, we would be way more screwed if Glass, Cox, Hansen, Lynch or even Hunter left. Would leave too much to cover. Mcnamara, Butler and Cotchin will fill the gap nicely... ;)

Agreed..
If things work out for us then this whole thing might just be a blessing in disguise :thumbsu:

I guess we just tell those annoying opposition coaches to stop sending extra defenders down into our forwardline then because it's messing up our forward setup.

We don't start with 8 forwards, but Woosha has been unwilling to allow sides to play a spare man in defence against us. Due to our midfield strength sides have often dropped a 7th defender back from the outset as they expect to lose the battle for midfield possession.

One positive with Judd leaving is sides won't so readily concede the midfield to us and may decide not to push as many numbers behind the ball as they have in the past. We then have the open forwardline we'd all prefer but haven't been allowed to have.

Nice post mate, I think this was the right time for this to happen to us, still have enough experience their to be a real threat & with some early draft picks will be able to top up nicely & extend our run at the top.

Positive is that Judd going means some of our other young players get a chance to show what they are made of.

Have plenty of cover for Judd, showed that in the second half of the year.

We will be able to continue with success in the short term, as well as gaining players from the draft with good picks, and a young kpp to ensure the long term future looks pretty good to.

So we are stuck with the option to just kick to the boundary. Very imaginative Woosha, He instructs his forwards to elad to the boundary, its not a coincidence its an instruction. I just can not balme our forward players when our coach doesn't sort the structure out so they can improve. Don't get me wrong I like Woosha and I am glad he is aour coach but he needs to improve also, he is very stubborn and hides behind a good win loss record to not make the changes needed by himself.

Spot on as usual keyser....someone (probably same poster) raised the exact same thing yesterday in another thread...I answered the same way on that one. We don't intentionally play 8 forwards.

A side like ours especially can't afford to leave a loose man in defence as we can leave holes in the midfield for teams on the way out as our midfield can be so attack minded.

One advantage I see is a revamped game plan next year. Not so much that I am unhappy with the current one, but you'd expect when the team's (arguably) best midfielder comes out, there will be changes to our style that could catch other teams out.

He instructs them to lead into space. More often than not the opposition set up with an extra defender(s) in the corridor hoping that we bomb it long to that spot.

Since Sampi went AWOL we haven't had a true crumbing forward and our regular tall forwards are not great pack marks (Seaby and Hunter have done well pinch hitting in that role).

Hopefully Kennedy may be able to provide that marking target and Sampi can make his way back to full fitness and reward our faith and perserverance in him.

Certainly won't have midfielders sacrificing their game by blocking for someone as often as they used to.:)

Whilst I agree with you on the structure. 8 forwards, worked against Sydney, and Adelaide but question marks against other sides.

The real problem is the over possession of the ball in the midfield and down back, chipping wide, backwards, sideways.. Rack up those 30+ possessions.

By the time the Sherrin reaches half forward the only place left to lead is the boundary..

Take a look at the way Geelong played this year, no stuffing around in the backline, straight down the middle, consequently no time for opposition to flood.

On another note:

A forgotten positive on losing Judd....We wont have to stomach Yoko or should that be Posh (Twiggers) in the social pages, in advertising campaigns or stumbling her way through 7's weekend weather.

For what its worth I think that WCE handled themselves admirably in this whole affair and even when robbed of just compensation (1&3) didn't bitch and moan. If you get Cotchin (I think we'll take Morton with pick 2) you will be receiving a potential superstar. That coupled with the promising Kennedy could provide you with an unexpected but welcome harvest out of this affair. All the best to the WCE and the boys you have as a result of the Judd trade:thumbsu: Oh.....just one last thing.....er.....can we have Cales brother on the cheap for keeping the pressure on Carlton....thanks for that;)
