Review Positives & Negatives vs Collingwood

On topic, I think Shuey is a bit fatigued and generally sore.

His awareness was poor, but to me it looked like he was also just lacking that extra yard of pace needed to burn off any would-be tacklers. Usually even when caught he's able to just get a bit of separation between him and the tackler so he's not completely wrapped up.

Very worried about Luke Shuey's performance as it was a. shit and b. he look like he really took it to heart. I hope he bounces back big time next week.

Pretty sure the guys had larger dissapointments in his life! From all reports he is a professional and he will bounce back and be better for the experiance.
I actually thought he was ok, just tried to do to much at times, at least he was getting his hands on the ball in a super high intensity final.

Not sure I agree with your comment on his pace. I think it was more the fact he wanted more than anything to hit a target and sacrificed his pace in order to make this more of a likelihood. The problem was in doing this he got run down a lot.

In the game against Essendon, Kerr looked like he was doing something similar in trying to produce more than he was capaple of. However after half time due to being the champion he is he decided to take the fiirst option more and this paid huge dividends. We ended up belting them and Kerr was just about BOG by the end of the game. Shuey needed to do something similar to that performance tonight and I hope that he learnt that after tonight.

I don't think we should dwell on too many negatives out of todays game considering where we are as a team.. but A LOT of positives thats for sure.

Gaff,Shuey,Scooter,Masten are only going to get better and while soundly beaten today against the best midfield in the competition they never stopped trying.

Our backline, Glass,Emac completely negated their two talls. Hurn was superb as usual, Butler was calm and collected like always and Waters although iffy disposal at times hardly gets beaten by his man and leaves nothing on the field.

And an individual mention to Nic Nat: Was amazing today and was a one man team in the middle at times. Once he has a bigger tank he'll be able to ruck 70-80% of the time then go forward and start clunking these marks all the time that we see him go for and will absolutely dominate.

Also may have Kerr back next week and Cox to hopefully play a full game.

G'day guys, hope you don't mind me posting in this thread. Thought you boys were sensational today and with a fit Kerr running around and Dean Cox running out the full game, I think you could have got up today. :thumbsu:

Very exciting team and your ruck division is top notch but everybody knows that. Some positives I thought:
- The back 6 looked solid as a rock. Mackenzie and Glass were both fantastic and absolutely toweled Cloke and Dawes. Hurn had another awesome game and young Gaff looks like a real player.

- Tackling. Thought it was amazing from both sides today.

- Pressure. You look at our boys stats and see Swan and Pendlebury in the 40's. You can't stop these two from getting possessions. What you did do though was limit the damage and effectiveness of their possessions and its something I think other sides will pick up on.

- You get to smash one of those filth sides in Carlton or the Dons next week :D and I seriously think you will push Geelong right to the edge in the Prelim.

Well done today and hopefully see you later on this year. :thumbsu:

i thought those 3 blokes in red shirts were fantastic for you blokes today. how long ago did you draft them?

The thing I will remember most from that game was brain dead morononic pie supporters around me who spent the entire game whinging and bitching and calling for free kicks that weren't there. Heaven forbid they would actually watch the game and see which players would win the contest. They wanted a free kick at every contest and when they didn't get it they came up with the sort of shit you just posted here.
You are well named peanut.

Top post, appreciate you taking the time to post here. :D

Just of Shuey, he definitely had a poor game, but I did enjoy the fact he kept trying to take the game on even after being run down multiple times. A fair few young players would've gone into their shell and started playing safe after it happened the first time. It was good to see him still have some confidence, even if he did take his performance to heart.

Hopefully everyone has a light week on the track and they just do skills work. Probably some very sore young bodies.

Hope Carlton and Ess smash each other. Should be a great game.

Positives:

- pressure applied in first and last quarters
- nicnat
- defence held up
- lynchy turning the game our way in the last with his robust bullocking work in the boundary throw-ins
- getting so close to collingwood with so many players down and so many things not working.

not too keen to focus on the negatives. some have mentioned shuey getting run down - at least he was trying something - bombing long was playing into the hands of the magpie defence.

Positives: Backline
kids got a taste of what finals footy is like.
We didn't play that well skill wise and we still stayed with them with no kerr and cox (for the second half)
we kept fighting.

Negatives: Delivery into the foward line was not deep enough,we made pies BACK 6 look good.

Embley , Nickoski no show, Darling needs to get the ball, kennedy needs to start marking again, Priddis , waters , selwoods needed to used it better

Only to cure 10 terminal illnesses. :thumbsu:

^^ This :D

I suppose even our new messiah can have a bad game every now and then.

It's only because it was shuey that it hurts so much..

Those three run downs... gosh they looked horrible.

That 50m Penalty he gave away when he threw he ball... no more! I might cry.

I think too many of us here have been taken in by the channel 10 commentary team. Lets not forget who won the spoon and premiership last year and how close this game was.

I don't care how many times Shuey gets run down. We all know he how good he is and the only thing stopping him from realising his potential is his self belief. If he can keep backing himself he is going to become among the best in the game.

Some positives
-Gaff's tackle of Dawes
-Naitanui's breathtaking first half
-Composure from Darling
-Defended well
- Experience
-We got that close with soo much room for improvement. Got smashed in the clearances and possessions but still got close. Looking forward to next week.

My big question out of the game: Naitanui was amazing but is he going to be able to develop the tank to do what he did in the first half over 4 quarters? because if he can get there he really will be incredible.

Thanks for the nice words. Looking forward to our next game against Collingwood too.
Today we showed that we've already come a fair way on what should be a longer journey down this road. Things that stuck out for me were Collingwood's structure (midfield and defence, not their forwards) and the sheer quality of their mids + Taylor. Shuey always likes to try and take it on, and they had factored that into their tactics, so he got caught a bit. Our forward line didn't really function, but this was against an awesome defence and with our mids DE lowered by the Pies' pressure. Things continue to look up for the Eagles, and a home final at Subi against whoever will be a great test.
