Ruckwork was dominant imo giving our midfielders 1st use.

Marking was cement hands again... may as well just punch.

Cost us a few goals though with turnovers/dropped marks.

Good outweighed the bad, but could he learn to live within his limitations.
Well given Nicks, VB, Tex and Max Michalanney when interviewed all mentioned unprompted how good ROB was his game was obviously highly rated within the coaching and playing groups

Does this flog Kornes ever give up on this crap, he can't tell anyone this is anything other than a personal vendetta..

He is the team for as long as he wants so I think its not really worth talking about but I think it's a reasonable question and you are to biased if you don't think its worth a discussion..

He said the same about Hawkins last year.

The real good teams who generate run from defence is when Tex becomes a liability and you can only see it live not on the TV.

As I said he isn't going anywhere, he will always kick goals especially on turnover as he stays within range.

I don't think we need him for leadership anymore but the way I see it if he kicks 2 and costs us one then we are in front.

Kornes continues to let his personal vendetta against Tex get in the way...

He was saying the same about Hawkins last year. The game has changed.

If we are serious we have to pick a team that will beat the best. Against a GWS type team I'd want two talls plus maybe Curtin when needed. Then play the extra small.

I think it be will be something that will be a discussion point this year. For now he is in the team.

Not sure as Ross Lyon described him as a ‘very capable’ AFL ruck and a hard guy to play against when they asked him about how Boyd went
Nah, VB said the same and both Tex and Max Michalanney both rapped ROB's game unprompted in the after game interview from the rooms after the game obviously his game was highly rated within the coaching and playing group.

Coaches votes. Looks like a split of:
Dawson/Soligo/Rankine/Rachele/Worrell
Dawson/Soligo/ROB/Rachele/Wilson

With the 3 and 1 votes interchangeable
I would have thought TT deserved something. From the eye test on TV, he was extremely influential on our performance and finishing right from the start. Some of his ground work after dropping a few marks was sublime.

Rather than posting a video, what part of my assessment was incorrect?

The coaches and playing groups obviously rated his game more than you.

If you watched the video you would have heard VB, Tex and Max all offered up their opinion on his game unprompted.

Once again Bicks, what part of my assessment do you disagree with?

Just go through my comments one by one & let me know which you don't think is fair.

Mutineer - here is the post again.

Which bit do you disagree with?

Good outweighed the bad by plenty

Cost us a few goals is laying it on way thicker than the reality..

Satisfied you got your reply I'm sure this back and forth is of little interest to others and just clogs up another thread.

You could have just made this reply to my original post... as it has been you deflecting which has been doing any clogging.

So the only thing you disagree with is costing us goals.

There was 1 where he missed a teammates with a kick through the middle, which Saints got & resulted in a goal.

There were 2 easy dropped marks around CHB, including one which he should have left to Worrell, that resulted in the Saints crumbing & goaling.

Yes, I said his good outweighed his bad, as he dominated the taps & gave our midfielders 1st use.

But you would have your head in the sand if he didn't have some deficiencies too.

He has cement hands & looked better when he just punched the ball clear, rather than dropping a mark. I wish he would just punch a ball if in a pack as too risky he will drop it.

Really liked that fog has started the year well. He and filthy are a great mix who will play a lot of footy together.

Feel like fog often takes a month or so to get rolling and some people in here were jumping at preseason shadows.
We saw yesterday that Tex was genuinely 3rd fiddle for the 1st time

I thought ROB was a bit patchy in the 1st half, missing some taps and marks etc. But he absolutely dominated in the 2nd half, fed the midfielders superbly and was prominent around the ground, especially helping out in defence. He placed himself (or coaches had him placed) in much better positions around the ground than previous years. When Tex takes a forward ball up or throw-in, I never want to see ROB wander in to the forward 50 again, as he did almost every time last season. I don't think that was happening yesterday.

Re Tex, I thought he still played his role well yesterday and it was good to see Fogarty and Thilthorpe be a big presence with Tex still in the forward line. When Tex went off, Curtin was capable. I liked the set ups where Thilthorpe would be on one side of the ground and Curtin the other when we bring the ball out. If it went one side, that player would take the mark or make the contest and the other would run hard back to the forward 50 to provide the next option. There were times when Curtin started on the wing. I think it can work with the 4 of them. Especially with Curtin's versatility and Thilthorpe playing 2nd ruck. On occasions one of them may need to sacrifice their game to open up the game for the others. When that happens, that will be the sign of a very good team.

McAsey wasn't exactly a wasted pick, he had the football talent OK but just never settled in well in Adelaide during the Covid lockdown in Victoria/SA and then his father having a heart attack and being touch and go there for a while didn't help with that as well.

All the signs are Curtin has 100% bought in and is happy in Adelaide, way way too early for this kind of talk re Curtin,
I think he’s the very definition of a wasted pick.

Didn't Gerard Healey mention he'd had 30 plus hit outs and 11 hit outs to advantage in that number at one point in the 3rd quarter...and we did win the Centre clearances 20 - 11 with Crouch the best of our mids with 5 and Rankine with 3.
So he should have, he was up against an SANFL player.

That's not true. Peatling was okay yesterday. Berry has ranged from okay to good.

I'm happy to give peatling a crack first though cos of his pace.
Watching the replay I think Peatlings game was actually better than it seemed live. Did a lot of really important ground balls, has 7 I think I saw. I don't know for sure without finding somewhere to check but I'd guess thats a reasonable number.

I actually think having all 4 is ideal. Imagine Tex being regularly used as a pinch hitting forward for 2.5 quarters rather than a full year busting his arse.

Curtin high half forward is best with licence to go through the middle where he can use his size in congestion. FOG, Thilthorpe playing higher up the wings and Tex roaming closer to goal.

Most backlines will struggle against this given we have 2 very mobile forwards at 201cm and 197cm, plus 2 not too shabby 193cm forwards. When rotating 1 of those players off and brining in Dawson it makes it really tough. If one of the players have an opposition player 188cm or less, you exploit it.

The Dons this weekend will have a backline of Mackay (202), McGrath (180), Prior (189), Reid (202) and Redman (187) plus a replacement for Ridley (195).

Standing in order.above of Thilthorpe, Rachelle, Keays, Curtin, Fog and Tex

Having the likes of Curtin & Dawson in marking contests is a huge advantage. We should be using Curtin more as a long kick in option.

Took a screamer yesterday on the wing, only for the umpires to pay Saints a free for something I didn't notice.

My eldest saw him run through half back. He said dinosaurs can handball 🤣🤣🤣

Stevic and Eleni made some baffling calls.
I don't know who the third umpire was but was better than those two.

Also, the bouncing of the ball was atrocious.

Yeah, there were plenty of calls which is had nfi what the frees were for.

Given we were winning so comfortably, it didn't bother me too much.

I was watching and yelled what was that for?

Had it been closer I may have needed a new TV.
