Re:Smithers,
If the chef I love at my favorite restaurant, that I've supported generously for 20 years, starts undercooking things, taking waay longer smoke breaks, mixed up my order & recently I've mysteriously discovered pubes, twice! (& it's only round 13)
You Betcha, I'm getting on Google,Yelp and Zomato...to air my disapproval.
So that the Establishment,The Chef and The Patrons can all act accordingly... in the hopes of having a better dining experience moving foward.

*Oh and the Chefs a millionaire.

The hatred can get pretty centered on the actual player at times though, probably more so on official club social account posts than places like here. That stuff isn’t on.
There shouldn’t be any hatred pointed at anyone including the coaches, they’re not immune to it either, even if they have been well below standard

Footballers (and their WAGS) are more than happy to use social media to rake in more $$$$ bit rich to complain when it turns on you.

Kind of similar to the we want free agency but don't you dare trade us under contract attitude.

During our 0-4 start to the season, ROB took 4 marks total.

How on earth we tolerated that as a club is beyond belief.

Do we have any standards internally whatsoever? Any expectations on our senior players at all?

That abysmal standard was accepted and we infact picked him for almost two months after that.
But he is leading the hit outs, hopefully another VIC club see this stat's "importance" as well and chase him. The SA media was still running with this stat the week he was dropped lol.

Ladhams is one of the only rucks who might be more infuriating to watch than Rob. One thing about rob is he never has a brainfade like ladhams does where he'll give a free away out of misplaced aggression.
Rob has got no aggression, nothing, nada

I’m interested to see how Nicks runs the forward line this week. He usually uses three key position players (Tex, Fog, Thilthorpe/Burgess/Himmelberg) so only having Fog (probably smallest in height) as the only recognised key forward is different. I know we used Borlase as a forward/chop out Ruck but I recon he may want another tall down there at times. I’m hoping he uses Murray as a forward as I recon his athleticism and marking ability could be handy up forward.

If you take out 97 and 98 which let’s face it are anomalies, we are very much a loser club.
2015 I was at the elimination final and that was the proudest I'd felt of the club.

Since the 2017 GF it's all turned to shit.

We've got some pretty good young players (+ Dawson) but the club seems stuck in a similar mindset to the England cricket team.

They also cop it in DMs. Some of the shit sports people cop these days is horrendous, usually due to gamblers having a bad day on the multi.

Anyone should be allowed to have social media without copping outright personal abuse for just doing your job.

I don't want to victim blame Smith too much but a professional footballer should not have public DMs open on any social media platform

People are complaining about Smith because he is not doing his job.

Funny thing: I never cop personal abuse or get bullied on Social Media like Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter/X, Instagram etc,

because I don't participate in any of them.

We aren't, whilst I don't believe we have reached anywhere near the potential of this club and should have arrived least another two flags - we aren't in that bucket.
Dreaming.

Made all the more worse when you consider how big we are in a two team football state. North and st Kilda aren’t big vic clubs, freo is the port equivalent.

Let’s try it from another angle- tell me why aren’t we in their bucket?

A good start. Now to get rid of Murphy and to pick Curtin
For this to happen, Curtin needs to be played in a position he actually knows how to play in the SANFL. Not deep KPD. Coaches seem to think he's something he's not, and he sucks at it. The 1.5 games he's been allowed to run forward he's looked great

I'm sure it's not nice for Smith to see he's not wanted by supporters anymore, but the hatred expressed by supporters is not directed at him. It's squarely at the coaches and the selection panel.

He's been one of our better players for over a decade and has bled for the club. I have nothing but respect for him as a player and a person. But, he's been overtaken at this stage of his career and the writing has been on the wall for a long time.
Can't say I've seen too much on the socials, I generally avoid facebook comments wherever possible, but when he mentions them being celebratory I presume they're along the lines of "About time", "Should've happened weeks ago", etc.

I'm sure that's hurtful to read, but your post explains the other side. No one hates Smith, and if he was playing well we'd want him in the side. At his best, he's best 22 easy. But his form is hurting our side. Calling it out as hateful when all we really want is for our side to be better and to reward/punish form is taking something personal that really isn't.

I'll be sad when he goes. He's been an exciting and damaging player. But the fact is he's terribly out of form now and is currently a liability in the side and is better off out of it. If he can regain form, by all means come back in.

Again, this is assuming the comments haven't devolved into fully personal attacks which, knowing facebook, is quite possible.
