Preview R14: Changes vs. Sydney Swans

There were a number of things that were confirmed beyond all doubt tonight.

1) Sam Berry is never going to make it as an AFL player. Great tackler, one of the best I’ve seen. Literally shithouse at everything else.

2) Chris Burgess is a complete and utter list clogger who has no business playing at this level in any role

3) Ned McHenry is an absolute mess who would not get a game at literally any other club (we already knew this)

4) Brodie Smith is cooked beyond belief and his lack of composure for someone so experienced is staggering (already knew this)

5) Rory Laird is also cooked beyond belief and continuing to trot him out in a central midfield role is the most hideous coaching move consistently occurring in the entire AFL (already knew this)

6) Chayce Jones is an embarrassment to our recruiters, development staff and coaching staff

7) Matthew Nicks is a blithering idiot, completely out of his depth, has lost the players, and is the laughing stock of the AFL coaching world

This once proud club has been reduced to a pathetic, putrid joke of an organisation. Mark Ricciuto, Adam Kelly, Hamish Ogilvie, Matthew Nicks and Mick Godden at an absolute minimum are dead men walking, and if any one of them are still there by February, the disaster will only continue. If I was as objectively shit at my job as all of them are at theirs, i would fully expect to have been sacked well before now.

Who in our team could displace a Swans player from their team? Dawson (poor bugger), Rankine, Soligo, Max, Murray .....

The season is now definitely gone, so time to jettison players who are clearly not going to make the grade and instead embrace youth, Dowling was great, get kids to the magical 50 game mark asap, just like we did with McSpud, Murphy .....

What selection farce will Nicks come up with this week? Any washed up oldies to bring back, rush back Rankine for a meaningless game and ping his hammy again?

It'll be ROB and Tex in, Strachan and Burgess out.

OUTSINS
Strachan (Injured)ROB
Borlase/Burgess (We only need one second ruck, that is dogshit up forward)Tex/Ibis
Brodie SmithDan Curtin
Jordan Butts (unfortunately)Nick Murray (if ready)
MurphyIzak Rankine
SchoenbergPedlar (Laird goes to HB)

While we are still mathematically possible to make the 8 due to the evens of the top 13 teams this year, our best 22 players need to play every week, until its impossible.

OK

These are the changes that must happen to get the damage limitation in place.

In: N Murray, D Curtin, Tex, Rankine, Pedlar, ROB
Out: Burgess, Strachan (inj), Keane, McHenry, Murphy, Smith

I'd want us to line up like this:

B: Borlase Butts Michalanney
HB: Jones N Murray Hinge
C: Dowling Soligo Nankervis
HF: Rachele Fogarty Curtin
F: Keays Walker Pedlar

R: ROB, Dawson Rankine
Int: Shoenberg, Laird, Berry, Hamill
Sub: Sholl

I hope Sydney bring plenty of lube with them, we are going to need it.
i hope they take us out to dinner first and offer us a post coital cigarette

But who will bring the shape ;)

Honestly all good changes, except I would probably make Berry the sub instead of Sholl. Also would perhaps drop Keays for Taylor, and Perhaps Curtin drops back into Jones' spot (moving to ol Chayce to the bench). Either that or play Hammil

Only excitement I'll be able to muster is if the following changes happen:
Curtin for Smith
Tex for Burgess
Rankine for McHenry
Murray for Butts
Taylor for Murphy
Ryan for Jones
Berry back to the sub role, he can't play a full game

Unfortunately ROB will return with Strachan injured, but I would prefer to just chuck Toby Murray in there and see how that goes with Borlase providing relief.

Prioritise midfield minutes to Dawson, Soligo, Rankine, MM, Dowling and Taylor. Keep Laird at HB. Keep Borlase at FF.

IF this club wants to at least get some sort of respect back from its supporter base and save their careers, these type of changes onfield are the bare minimum. Nicks and a few others should still be moved on end of season, but at least you can leave having finally listened to your supporter base.

Only 22 players

where to start - and where to finish after two weeks of depressingly bad football.

The weekends match against South will be important but given the likely wet conditions and gale force winds we may not gain too much insight.

If Murray survives match and plays well hes in

If Taylor can play in the middle and show some form he is in.

If Tex is fit he will play.

If Cook is fit hes back in.

If Pedlar can display some of the form of last year and up his performance in the second half last week he's in.

If Curtin can play a half decent game hes also in.

So who goes out

Strauchnie is injured so he is an out. ROB comes in by default.

Baby Jon Burgess is an out for Tex. He may never ever play AFL football again.

Keays is an out for Cook. One is skilled the other is not.

Taylor comes in For Ned. One has vision and football smarts - the other runs around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Curtin if he can play well come in for Smithy. That weak effort in the last qr where he piqued a physical confrontation with Richmond players was deplorable for a senior player and team leader.

Rankine comes in for Murphy.

Pedlar comes in for Sholl who showed on the weekend he cannot win one on one contests in the air.

Murray comes in for Borlase but he remains as a sub. I would play him forward but if not he can play centre half back and Keane can go to back pocket.

Team could look like this:

Borlase Tex Rachele
Cook Fogarty Pedlar
Nankervis Soligo Hinge
Curtin Murray Max
Laird Butts Keane

ROB, Dawson, Rankine

Reserves: Jones, Harry, Taylor, Dowling

Sub: Berry

That team would beat last night's team by ten goals.

Doesn't matter, we are 100% guaranteed to win this and everyone keeps their job. Disaster averted.
I've taken your advice and bet on Crows for the win. Not just your advice but it would be such a Crows thing to beat Sydney after two of the worst performances imaginable, and really, Crows are capable of beating any team in the comp when they are truly 'on'.

Regain Tex, Rankine, Cook, Murray, ROB, Pedlar or most of them, dismiss the appalling last two games, and it's game on.
