Review R17: The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. Brisbane Lions

I get why Brisbane fans would be pissed with the Rankine bump, but also that shit doesn't happen if they don't instigate it in the first place. The Lions are into him, bumping, scragging, just working him over (see Harris Andrews trying to take him out) from the get-go, but then they outraged when Rankine sees someone running at him and decides to get a shot in first. It's just unfortunate for both it resulted in a concussion.

But the talk that Rankine is a dirty sniper is just ridiculous.

They don't know anything about football, super uneducated supporters. Wouldn't let it worry me.

The AFL need to make a focus of punishing the instigator, more than the retaliator.

They give people license to be pricks and then punish the person who reacts to their prickery.

Tbh I think we would have won had Crouch, Knight, Lever, Wigg, Milera, Doedee, Gallucci, Poholke, McPherson, Jones, McHenry, McAsey, Schoenberg, Thilthorpe and Pedlar all played better.

Seriously, just think that of our first 2 draft picks from 2013-2020, only Fog was in the team. Some injuries yes, some have left, but farrrrrk.

We will not be a decent team until the damage of those years are all worked out if the system. You just cannot be a decent side if you **** up draft picks year after year after year.

Good: taylor and dowling getting a bit of a feel of centre square work and a learning experience. Nankervis was very good, michalanney his usual a grade game.. back in pick 4 territory above any st kilda freebie for losing battle as well. All in all, good to see the youngsters get to play

Bad: turnovers..we need to be able to execute better. Soligo's kicking...very wayward today. Murphy...no more gold pass for whats a very innefective game.

ugly. No Curtin again and the umpiring was so 1 sided today

I wish the Telstra tracker would show the work rate for every player and not just the top 5 for the game. So many times Laird looks like he can't even be assed to break into a jog and doesn't seem all that interested in putting his body on the line anymore.
Went completely missing the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes. When the game was hot

He did manage to get a good spray in on a team mate for anticipating he would be on the move, rather than handballing to him while he stood still for the stat receive though.

I’m pretty sure he was yelling “play in not 15” nit touched. Not sure why the commentators went on so long about it

I think probably because it was pretty obviously 15, and no one could have reasonably assumed that was the call.

Good: Keane hasn't let the Sydney disasterclass have a mental effect on him. Been good in every game since. We did a good job of restricting their talls in general - Hipwood and Daniher scored 1.3 between them. We also restricted Harris Andrews effectively in my opinion - he only had 5 intercepts, and didn't impact that much.

Bad: The midfield got savaged - Neale 36 and 3 and Dunkley 35 and 1, while our midfield was pretty ineffective. O'Brien was back to his best with an incredible 8 disposals and 2 marks.

Ugly: Rankine guaranteed to miss three weeks.

Watch q2 about 5:40-5:30 left

Just jogs past contests. Working to d50 but never interested in getting involved while others chase past him

Great alleged tagging role by Murphy on Neale in the 2nd half. Thankfully Neale only managed 36 touches, 3 goals, 9 marks, 2 tackles, and 10 clearances at the end of the game. Could have been much worse.
If he'd doubled his first half, he'd have had 46 touches, and 6 goals. So, I guess that would have been worse.

Keeping him to 13 isn't a super tagging job though.

He stood back waiting to hack the footy instead of running forward where his teammate thought he would be. Classic Laird.

Add the 2 draft picks from 2012 and that’s 1 out of 18 hypothetical drafted players who played tonight.

But worrying given you have 18 players on the field…

13 disposals after half time.

Murphy did a job there.

Still shouldn't be in the side. But at least Nicks showed he is capable of making a change to quell a player.
