Ratten To Be Sacked

Because we sacked a coach that hadn’t done anything in 4 years and went from 8-3 to missing finals this year?

Bloody hell you’d think Ratten is a triple premiership coach the way people are carrying on in this thread. He coached what, 8 years with 2 different clubs and had a finals record of 2-4? But now the narrative is that it was because both lists were no good? Give me a break. He’s just not an elite coach.

Should we have re-signed him? No, which is exactly what Bassat and Lethers said in the presser today. They made a mistake, they’re rectifying it.

Think it’s a good decision by the club, they’ve obviously got someone lined up so hopefully they can improve the list.

This - following his sacking at Carlton, according to the public, he morphed into a combination of Jock McHale and Ron Barassi and we were idiots for sacking him (we were idiots for getting Malthouse !!)

Lovely bloke - has some expertise as a coach - but it's the second time he seems to have 'lost' the players or at least been unable to articulate his game plan.

Brett Rattan is a shizen coach.

He was hired by 2 shizen administrations. And was sacked by 2 shizen administrations.

But as a coach, he is the equivalent of Matthew Lloyd as a commentator. No foresight. No depth. Just coaching for the now week to week. He is bargain basement suburban level.

Horrendously rushed re-signing by the Saints. With the truths exposed by a simple review. Lethlean must go too.
Agree on lethlean…he needs to own his inadequacy’s as an administrator.

Lol, you must be about 10 years old and missed the school girl, the Aint in the bushes, the countless wooden spoons, no flags and just being the league basket case for your entire miserable existence. This is just the latest instalment in what is a comedy for non aint fans and a tragic tail for aints supporters that knows no end.

can't think of too many ex saints bashing people at kids footy games or old glass smashing woman bashing drug fiend, I mean at least our #1 pick had a legitimate reason for leaving our club. we sacked 1 coach in the time it's taken you to sack 3. that moral high horse must be about 2" tall lol

you can just tell from this photo, if he returns he would like to introduce the Turkey Slap as a means to discipline any st Kilda female staff members

Dimma 56pc, Fages 54pc, Clarko 60oc and Scott is up around 75pc for H&A but 40pc for finals. Ratten is 50pc. Im not so sure Rats was too far off - but I do think people have a good reason to conflate his poor treatment at the Blues and now the Saints.

Probably shouldn’t except too much given who’s in charge at the Saints. Equally staggering is that Lethlean was required to resign by the AFL for an inappropriate relationship, only for the AFL to redraft him at their charity case club.

What. A. Mess.

Quite a damning article but David Zita saved his best backhander for the last three sentences :

It’s easier to have patience on a journey if there is clarity on the destination and the progress being made towards it.

At the moment, St Kilda is a club driving aimlessly through the middle of nowhere, with no true map to guide it.

The club cannot hope to break through the mire by solely changing the driver yet again.

I don't get the 6 month payout thing. What's the point of coaches contracts then?
Just spelling out what they're paid and responsibilities I'd imagine.

Also, who's to say there wasn't a performance clause built anyway. Maybe Saints had the right to terminate the contract with no financial penalty if finals weren't made this year.

Yeah bizarre. The contract is now really only for the benefit of the club that they secure a coach for X number of years.
But then if a coach up and left I doubt the club would pursue them.

I can see why the Saints signed him up now. You may as well do it and avoid the media heat through the year when sacking him later is only going to cost you 6months salary.

Yeah it's weird that out of contract coaches are still considered to be under pressure when underperforming but a guy who just signed could be sacked with just as much fallout.

And while it’s bigger than that of the Saints, your golden eras have been a 4 year patch in the 70s and another in the late 90s and very little else.

Miley Cirus shouldn’t be standing over Justin Bieber telling him how shithouse his music is.

Not sure this was the right call. Ratten had the Saints playing some pretty good footy especially in 2020 and early 2022. I don’t think their list is as good as they think it is and Ratten got the best out them.

Helluva trigger clause that gets activated two months into a two year extension, that's assuming the extra two years had even started yet. When did his original contract expire I wonder?
