It’s time to be a team that is ruthless at the selection table.

Ummm they bought in 3 players this round......

We can’t keep playing underperforming players because they are senior players. Murphy and Betts should rightfully be dropped this week but they won’t be.

Wut?

I think Teague likes to create good personal relationships with players, which is fine but don’t let it affect the team.

You think that is your problem, projecting much on what you ASSUME is happening at the club?

Murphy is a straight up liability defensively. He cannot hold a tackle to save himself. I actually believe his arms are too short. As strange as that sounds.

I suggest you watch the replay ....

All in all that was my gut feel response to your post .... WUT?

SPS is a massive liability in the backline. He can’t defend and he can’t chase down.
Give him the role of Jack Martin for the next few weeks (mid/fwd) and put Polson back in defence as a genuine small defender. Alternatively give Codral the defensive post and bring Dow into the midfield.

Saw the first half and a few minutes of the last quarter. Looked right in the game the vast majority of the time.

Disappointed we didn't pinch a win, but I think I've just resigned myself to worrying about next year and just looking for the little positives each week. There's a lot to like about how we play footy. And there's a lot to like about the fight we showed with only one recognised tall forward selected.

We're at the stage where there's going to be a lot of close losses and parts of games that inexplicably go to pieces, costing us wins. But I'm pretty sure it will come together once the required time has passed. Let's just hope it's sooner rather than later...

When plowman said to the umpire on the goal line ‘yep I get it’ and the commentators were like ‘gee, he’s a good sport about that rubbish umpiring’ I don’t think they understood what Plowman meant lol.

Plowman is just a gentle soul. It's not in his nature to be mean to people, unfortunately. Still a very good football player.

Free kicks were 14 to 12, doesn't look one sided to me

Umpires didn't change our setup at half time, nor did they effect disposal efficiency, nor efficiency inside forward 50, where we had way more opportunities but didn't capitalize
You know very well it is also the decisions they don’t pay that influence the result.

We had dozens of tackles where the Eagles player had more opportunity than SPS to dispose of the ball, or they outright dropped it, which should have been paid as free kicks if the umpiring was consistent.

Care to guess why Shuey pointing, and screaming, at the umpire was considered less of an offence than SPS asking the umpire if he was serious? Only one cost a 50 metre penalty and goal.

Free kick count is never a good indicator as it's the ones that aren't paid that are often the killers (NicNat and Ryan x2). Umps also gave us some garbage at the end once the game was already decided, which I might add seems to happen to us a lot.

The issue was that we got one very lucky HTB in the first quarter (Against Sheed maybe?), and it seemed like they over-corrected from there on out. From that point we only got a HTB if the umpire had absolutely no choice but to pay it.

Oh and for the record, the HTB on SPS (the second one) was absolutely there. Picked up the ball and went all wide-eyed and started shuffling backward toward their goal before being inevitably tackled, was agonising to watch.

I don’t think it was as bad as people are saying - I commented in the game day thread that he was trying to evade a tackle, and looking at the replay he pretty quickly hopped back from an outstretched Darling arm.

If it was one on one between him and Darling in an otherwise identical situation, we’d possibly be praising his evasive manoeuvre

We aren’t far away, a few iffy calls and a few bad decisions by our players and the 4 goal loss is up for grabs.
They are red hot and we matched them for intensity and ball movement for most of the game.
We will beat them next year.
I’m just happy to be in most games.
Beats the hell out of early last year bar 1 or 2 games.
We scare every team in the comp, you have to beat Carlton, we won’t hand it to you like previous years, we can only get better, as many other teams decline!👍

14 times in 21 games under Teague we’ve copped a 30+ turnaround.
It’s pace in the backline and we haven’t actually even made an attempt to address it. When sides get on a roll and play ahead of the ball our slow defenders are really in strife. I’m not too worried but Teague is really showing himself to be quite an unimaginative coach. Plowman, Doc, Willo, SPS and Simmo are collectively just too slow. None can run a man down. Watch the Cats. When that happens against them Bews runs someone down. We even passed on the opportunity to try Cottrell in that role today. Same back 7. Every single week. Any fast play kills them. WC scored 72 points from 35 inside 50s. Incredible really.

I don’t mind losing. But try something different with that back 7 PLEASE.

I am bewildered they threw Pittonet back on ball when we were on top early in the third and TDk was actually competing. No...I’m bewildered they left him there when we started getting flogged out of the middle.

True but can’t really break open a game. Also realised we are missing a few finishers in front of goal

Yeah 100% agree but that to me is because of our wings and pace in the midfield. Not to mention run off halfback.

We need pace on the wings and at least one quick player in the centre bounces. Having Cripps, Setterfield, Kennedy, E Curnow, Walsh and Murphy as our typical midfield/wing mix is insane to me. 0 pace. Martin gets a run sometimes and Gibbons in very limited bursts. But we are just far too slow.

Newnes as a half forward/forward pocket I don't mind. He pressures and can snag a goal.

Haha sorry mate didn’t mean to offend you.

You’re in dreamland buddy. 2 of those ins were for injuries and the other was for a player who has played 2 games. Dropping senior players underperforming is being ruthless. I think everything I wrote makes sense. I just think you are a white knight who comes to the Defense of the club after every loss. Admirable but that’s about it.

Logic needs to prevail at some point. The fact that you think Murphy isn’t a liability speaks volumes. Do you watch the defensive side of his game?

The club will survive without you coming to its rescue. Curious as to what your changes would be?

Problem is we just dont get them in together .
Could probably count on 1 hand the amount of times weve had a first choice forward set up over the past 3 seasons .
I don't think curnow weitering McKay silvagni Cunningham have ever played a game together -- I don't think we have had a first pick spine curnow McKay cripps weitering Jones once

If true, that is damning
Oh it’s true alright Jab and that was to 3/4 time, that’s not to mention the 77 tackles for the game for 12 free kicks, we just used up so much energy on pressure and tackling for no reward what so ever that we had nothing left, pissed off with Teague though for putting Pitt back in the ruck after half time and just leaving him there until it was to late, TDK was killing it leading up to half time just like I knew he would against Nic Nat and Teague screwed the pooch.

A few things that came out of today’s game.
Cottrell seemed comfortable at the level.
TDK could be something special (thanks sos)
Fisher is a small forward. Do our coaches understand that he has been sitting on our list for four years. Please don’t give the world up for Papley if he wants to come.
Willo needs to harden up. He is getting into some bad habits. Needs to be dropped.
Gibbons is taking us nowhere. Very very average player. Once again the opposition team dropped off him to have a free player in their defence. When will our coaches wake up. He is a liability.
Betts is done. Have loved him as a player but let’s give him a farewell. Please don’t play on Eddie after this season. Please Teague don’t sacrifice one of our kids for him to play another year.
Doc is struggling to defend. Will cut him some slack.
Newnes shouldn’t be getting a game ahead of LOB.
Murphy, well the end is near?
Ed Curnow just continually kicks the ball away. Love his effort but where going nowhere persisting with him.
Great job by Weitering keeping Kennedy to two goals.
Simpson, love him to death but definitely last season.
