Sorry to disappoint people on here. But I think differently.

One game is fine. But 2 in succession (especially for a player of his ilk is) nearly too much for a team like ours. I'd be omitting Dow for a week or two to clear his head and return fresh. Shouldn't be rewarding any ineptitude because of intuition. I love the kid as much as most of you (his energy and evasiveness are incredible). But his current flaws stick out more than others. His kicking is troublesome at the moment, and it's best he doesn't face any further mockery and pointing of the fingers. Have to make a bit of a statement.

O'Brien I'd be likely to keep playing because not many are demanding for a spot.

Not too sure where Kennedy sits here given the spotlight placed on him after the Folau incident. But ideally there shouldn't be any. It's best that he comes in to assist Cripps.

There is no point worrying about being too top heavy. What is one small player going to do? Before one says inject speed, what is the point when we can't balance it with control? That being said, I'd still have Casboult out. Favourably for Kerr. Maybe for Garlett.

Lobbe for Kreuzer. No question about that.

Cuningham fit? He plays!

J.Silvagni too. Perhaps play him around the middle. Experiment a little.

If Gibbons keeps his spot. Try him on the wing. Look at what made him a VFL standout and play him where he is best suited.

OUT - Will Setterfield (Suspended), Matthew Lobbe (Omitted), Paddy Dow (Omitted), Michael Gibbons (Omitted), Levi Casboult (Omitted)
IN - Matthew Kennedy, Matthew Kreuzer, David Cuningham, Patrick Kerr/Jarrod Garlett, Jack Silvagni

FB - Jacob Weitering - Liam Jones - Nic Newman
HB - Kade Simpson - Caleb Marchbank - Dale Thomas
C - Sam Walsh - Matthew Kennedy - Lochie O'Brien
HF - Sam Petrevski-Seton - Harry McKay - Marc Murphy
FF - Charlie Curnow - Mitch McGovern - David Cuningham
R - Matthew Kreuzer - Patrick Cripps - Zac Fisher
I - Ed Curnow - Lachie Plowman - Jack Silvagni - Patrick Kerr/Jarrod Garlett

E - Paddy Dow - Michael Gibbons - Andrew Phillips - Cameron Polson
Think Kerr needs to do more than he did Sunday to be elevated.

Maybe. But Levi didn't need to and still got the nod. Same with O'Brien (when there were a couple performing better than him at the time).

Given these performances, our poor AFL standards speak louder than those of the twos.

Shouldn't have to be playing heroic defender when 8 of his teammates own similar roles.

This sort of stuff is what halted Weitering's development for almost two years. Need to take proper care of our investments.
We shouldn't put a 24 yr old forward (especially one that has played plenty of games n the backline) behind the ball with 2 minutes to go when we are a kick up? If that is going to screw up his development then we shouldn't have given up the pick we did for him.

The Suns whole style is making teams look bad. The Saints game in round one was terrible and the Bulldogs game wasn't much better.

I just hate playing the dogs, I keep having flashback to playing them out at the Western Oval and struggling to kick a goal back in 1991.

I would also say the dogs looked terrible for a lot of the game against the pies, but they simply kept the socres close enough so when they have their burst of good free flowing footy they can get in front.

My god that day was depressing. Miserable. Then again we weren’t to know what real misery felt like.

Exactly. Why should we be putting Gov in a defence which is already copping enough pressure from the rest of our team? He makes one mistake, and we are suddenly throwing crap at him. He kicked 3 bloody goals to keep us in the game. Tells me it's best he stays forward for now. That experiment didn't work against Sydney, and it didn't work on Gold Coast. Why do it again?

Our system isn't good enough to fiddle with such positions. It worked with Adelaide because they were clearly a better side at the time and they could set up well. We can't do that yet.

Predicted team this week

B: Kade Simpson, Jacob Weitering, Dale Thomas
HB: Lachie Plowman, Liam Jones, Caleb Marchbank
C: Sam Petrevski-Seton, Patrick Cripps, Zac Fisher
HF: Marc Murphy, Charlie Curnow, Ed Curnow
F: Mitch McGovern, Harry McKay, Jack Silvagni
FOL: Matthew Kreuzer, Sam Walsh, Paddy Dow
I/C: Nic Newman, Mathew Kennedy, Liam Stocker, Lochie O’Brien

Kreuzer - Only reason to not select him is desire for more fitness.
Jack - I think he will provide more than Gibbons in the forward half, can also run through the midfield as a bigger bodied player, I would not mind him rotating with Cripps. Allow Cripps to 70/30 mid/forward and JSOS the opposite.
Stocker - Some elite kicking is what is required in the blues team, he will provide skills.
Kennedy - This is my only question mark, but another big bodied midfielder to help the smaller mids we currently have in our team.

I think this would be getting close to our best 22 with only ~three players missing.

Just gonna leave this here:

Try Jack as a big bodied tagging mid.
Not the worst idea at all.

Younger players often thrive when assigned specific, somewhat simple roles. If Jack is told early in the week "You're in on Sunday and your job is to stop Macrae getting a kick", I think he will appreciate the challenge and will really be able to focus on what he needs to do to best help the team. I also agree that he has the attributes to be effective in this role, and possibly cause problems for his opponent the other way.

Like it.

Kid looked scared to me.

'Scared' is just a safe go-to excuse to criticise a young player that isn't doing as well as people like.

O'Brien's role doesn't require him to go in compared to some of his teammates. Not pretending he didn't perform well, but 'scared' wasn't the reason.

Perhaps 'confused'.

If you were Bolts ahead of this game, what would your "theme" be to drill into the playing group? Could simply be a mindset, or perhaps a particular element or skill of the game...

Mine would be "overlap run". When our blokes mark or gather the ball I want the emphasis to be on having teammates streaming past to receive (SPS I'm looking in your direction).

It automatically makes our tall forwards (Michael Gibbons) more dangerous by getting the ball in quicker but also makes playing footy more fun. I think the boys are desperate to enjoy some fast exciting footy and this might be a way to kickstart it.
