Not the worst idea at all.

Younger players often thrive when assigned specific, somewhat simple roles. If Jack is told early in the week "You're in on Sunday and your job is to stop Macrae getting a kick", I think he will appreciate the challenge and will really be able to focus on what he needs to do to best help the team. I also agree that he has the attributes to be effective in this role, and possibly cause problems for his opponent the other way.

Like it.
He’s so much fitter this year. I think he can run out games now. He lacks the speed to break away on the spread. However, neither Bont nor Macrae are overly quick and I’d back him to stick with one of them. I think he’s the best tackler at the club. He would literally get 15 tackles tagging one of them. We can’t have these guys wander around on their own. They use the ball way too well and will slice us open.

Jack would pressure the hell out of them.

Just a thought.

First I merely liked the notion, now I'm convinced by it!

And not a bad thought either.

LOB, Dow etc....Some of our blokes just need time people. Look at jones and Weito right now. Jones was in the gun for a while now he's found his Mojo. As for Weito....he's becoming exactly what we predicted. A General, no fudge that, a Field Marshal of the back line. Great sides are built from great back lines. With Marchy building back up, Plow toiling away and macread/willo to return we're looking good. On the flip i think Zac fish needs to stay up front. Get him out of the middle.

oh crikey i almost forgot....there's some other bloke .....doc.

If you were Bolts ahead of this game, what would your "theme" be to drill into the playing group? Could simply be a mindset, or perhaps a particular element or skill of the game...

Mine would be "overlap run". When our blokes mark or gather the ball I want the emphasis to be on having teammates streaming past to receive (SPS I'm looking in your direction).

It automatically makes our tall forwards (Michael Gibbons) more dangerous by getting the ball in quicker but also makes playing footy more fun. I think the boys are desperate to enjoy some fast exciting footy and this might be a way to kickstart it.

Love it. SPS: watch Walsh. Cheers.

if you're wrong........

Weitering was a train wreck early last season, he went to the twos, found some form and confidence and now is playing well again.

Dow and O’Brien are simply not playing well enough, there is no shame in being dropped. They need to get some form in the twos

This image is the type of Iconic call to arms (metaphorically) we need as a football club, not only the players, but especially the finals.

Tiger' first major win in 10 years is a testament to grit, persistence, and most importantly of all BELIEF

Belief and Confidence, that is the most tangible thing missing from our boys right now, you cannot bottle it, or actually buy it from some magical genie, it is something that only individuals can actually develop upon themselves, through their own journey and ups and downs .

Tiger's last 10 years are a fair parable for our footy since 2002, some pretty grim times, and mistakes (many self-inflicted)

But, as the saying goes, it is always darkest before dawn. Tiger's triumph should hopefully send a message to our boys about the triumph of hard work, persistence and BELIEF.

And the same goes to us fans too.

Everyone wrote us off halftime in 1970 GF, days before 1999 Preliminary Final etc.

I think we should all buy into the Carlton Vs The World sentiment, now more than ever, it's important we try muster up some of that good old fashioned Carlton Arrogance and Pride. And it all starts in backing in our players and coaching staff in, all in it together.

Are we going to let lazy slapstick writers in the media like Mark Robinson or Jon Ralph constantly wind us up and our team, who are working their backsides off, but not getting rewards for effort (yet? )

The Same Robbo who wrote two weeks ago that James Hird is returning as Essendon coach ?

I am apologetic for this being a bit long winded, but I was really moved by Tiger Woods' triumph (and I don't really care for golf lol) and the lessons it can show us all about how can rise from the ashes, hard work and the belief in one's self and each other.

That applies as well to some folks here and on talk back radio/social media who are feeling crestfallen/disillusioned. This club has had an entire continent's worth of the kitchen sink thrown at us in the past 17 years, and far sooner rather than later, we will surge up the ladder and everyone will start hating us again.

But it all starts with having a positive and confident outlook, starting this Sunday at Marvel.

My tip. Blues by 15 points, and Charlie to finally get out of the Easy Street he has been coasting on, and kick 4 or 5 of the Best.

GO BLUES !!!

our backline is pretty good. I think its just moving the ball forward that is killing us. I called this two weeks ago, i said it was a big mistake to drop Garlett. He has run and dare

Caleb Daniel has been the deepest defender all year for the dogs and they’ve recently got JJ back. Dogs concede a lot of inside 50s and aren’t very good at stopping sides from the centre getting it in quickly.

Naughton is an incredible contested mark so jones will need to go hard at him. Jones conceded 1 goal to Wright from the pocket last game from a free kick but he forced him wide and outside 50 mostly.

outside Naughton they don’t have obvious tall targets. Gowers is mid sized and athletic. Probably best option for Weitering. Schache is another option. And leave gowers for Plowman.

Dickson and Lloyd are the other two. Daisy gets Lloyd. Newman or Marchbank gets Dickson.

In the forward line for us ed can go to Daniel. It allows him to spend a little time up the ground to tag when Caleb goes in. Which hasn’t been much this year. Suckling will need looking at too as he has been responsible for a lot of forward forays. This might be a better match up for Ed while gibbons of Polson go to Daniel. Young wood and Cordy will be their three defensive talls. I reckon wood will get first pick. He matches up well with McKay and someone will have to be the sacrifice and lead him away. We shouldn’t be going through whomever has Easton.

Kruezer should smack English. He went 66-10 hitouts v Grundy and I expect him to be better v our ruck but not by much.

I think English will get dropped and Trengrove will replace him, especially if Matty is back in

Hopefully they try to go in tall and then we switch a late change.

Possibly

I think this game will highlight the huge variation in setups and despite the Dogs being a more settled unit as a whole, we could still exploit them.

Their speed does worry me, but most of our players that have speed and or run and carry are out injured

He does but he also can be a bit thumbly ..I don’t think it’s our team selection that is the major issue this year..it is simply poor ball movement and forwards not working cohesively... therefore I don’t think we should be making too many unforced changes..stick with a team and try to refine the process ...players in NB team should work on the same strategies so if and when they come into seniors they’re not lost in the system
