I was at peace with it until they decided to stop playing RCD, Naish & other kids a month ago. Now i am questioning where we are heading because the more they flog Cotch, Astbury etc - the more i am convinced that its all over

Season is done. But, I would like us to win so the kids keep learning/developing. Freo copped 2 big outs this week.

People are quick to jump on the backline but it's the cardboard cut-out midfield we have atm that's the real issue. You simply can't be an effective defensive unit if the oppo mids are just streaking through the guts and delivering to forwards unchecked. It's training drill stuff most weeks and it's a credit to the backline boys hanging in there that we haven't been beaten up on more often. Midfield is our biggest issue that needs to be addressed in the off season imo we've got no answers currently.

It looks that way, i dont think he is staying. Losing him puts us into the abyss as we have no elite or top end talent under the age of 25 now. I think we are in deep doodoo- I can't see a refresh or whatever people like to call it being where we are heading. It's going to be a fairly sizeable rebuild. I am not convinced our next crop of young talent will be as loyal as our current crop, they have been left for dead

I have to agree. Gives a chance to just look to the future.
We're still a decent chance to make finals, but I think we need more than Prestia, Vlastuin, Broad returning to turn around our recent form and be any chance of making an impact of finals.
I'd like us to work out what Ross's best position is (not medical sub) and just play him there for the rest of the year. Then decide whether to keep or cut the poor bastard.
Have a good look at Rioli, Stack, Mansell down back even if it means moving Short to a wing or somewhere else to create the spots.

Persist with RCD & Martyn in the middle to see if they've both got what it takes. Put Naish on a wing.
Try different things in the forward line, current system hasn't worked all year.

Wrong on Kingsley, he was our midfield stoppage coach last year and is our backline coach this year.
Lonergan is our midfield stoppage coach and Mcqualter is our ball movement and our forwards coach, he’s doing two jobs this year which is a joke.

If McQualter is looking after those 2 areas he should be moved on, we were terrible in those areas today. It doesn’t help we have players like Aarts, Parker, Ross who can’t hit targets 20 m away. Endeavour was good today but still frustrating to watch. Also player consistency is nonexistent. Chol, Graham, Riewoldt and a few others looked like world beaters last week and most were ordinary today. Rioli looks like he’s picked up a yard in pace and I like his creativity. Need a revision to team rules - no kicking long to a 1 on 2 or 1 on 3 when we’re outnumbered, it’s just dumb football.

Since the St Kilda game we have kicked 2 goals or less in a quarter TEN times

That is 10 out of 20 quarters overall. Take out the Brisbane game where we played well, that equates to 10 out of 16 quarters..

7 out of those 10 were quarters where we kicked 1 goal or no goals in a quarter, with about half of those being no goals at all

Those are damning stats, our system has completely collapsed

Agreed and we’ve been terrible in those areas all year.

Mcqualter shouldn’t have been given two jobs though.
It would be hard enough doing one area of the ground.

Maybe the reduced soft cap plus an extra $100000 forced us to do it.
Whatever the reason, we’ve bungled multiple things this year.

Yeah, stick a fork in Cotch I reckon. Dusty will be back, clearly had an issue most of the season. Prestia worries the most as he's going to be required to do a lot of the heavy lifting in the middle without Cotch and his body just keeps getting more and more brittle. We fall away from there. Graham is good but not elite, same with Bolton. Both equally likely to play a blinder or go missing. We're lacking some genuine muscle inside, players that you know will crank out the disposals every week and can contribute to a more even workload in the midfield. We rely too much on too few.
