I hate to admit it but he’s the most articulate coach in the AFL and maybe the most open.
What a lot of rot , I bristle hearing this , NEVER ever heard him be complimentary of his opponent EVER. It’s called balanced and being objective in your review and analysis. Dimma does it always, even if we win by 89p . Buckley is nowhere near it and would be faking it if he was , stop printing this s rubbish

Roasts
Stack - shouldn’t be picked if he’s getting lapped on the training track.
Castagna - missed his energy and didn’t take the game on.
Riewoldt - needed t break more packs and go harder. Did he leave it for Lynch?
Howe - bloody kicked it to Him all night. Someone said in the preview we won’t want to bomb it in and they stacked our backline and we bombed it in all night.
Meatballs fumble

Toasts
Fighting back after a terrible start where we were second to the ball and couldn’t lay a tackle.

out: Stack,Rioli, Graham?
In: who knows?? No decent reports from the seconds. Jack Ross

Hah hah hah. Good meltdown. Very funny.

Is Soldo a highly skilled footballer? Hell no, although I don't think you'll hear anyone say he is.

That's the issue with people who perhaps considered themselves decent footballers, as they'll see someone like him and take an almost unjust jealously towards him.

The alternative is that they'll compare him to a highly skilled midfielder, forward etc which is a flawed comparison.

The final option is that they'll compare him to a highly skilled Ruckman like Grundy which in itself is flawed. Grundy is on a multi-million 7 year deal, 1st round pick, while Soldo was a category B rookie who never played Footy growing up and would be on 10% of Grundys wage and has a premiership medal.... Yet he still more than held his own against him. Apart from that first quarter stoppage goal, Soldo was fine and had more impact in the final 10 minutes.

The problem with people "seeing things differently" is the aren't looking at the entire picture.
EFA... team of champions v champion team.

Lol here he is , back out of his 3 year lockdown and kicking the team when they are down. What's the best your account activity heats up whenever we lose a match.

Houli was actually good btw

Well said. Mopsy occasionally offers something insightful, however this wasn't one of those times. Most of our boys had a very ordinary start to the game, but Bachar and about a dozen others were finishing off better than they started which is why we were back in contention. Perfect? Far from it! But when you don't lose when you start that badly, you can breathe a sigh of relief.

He is a total spud and a waste of space to DATE.Whats the point of being there to dominate ruck contests which he didnt anyway, but give it straight to the opposition when he does win a contest. FMD a limited horrid player but hey he performs a limited role well fmd why dont we go and find our own Brodie Grundiy type????

I get it that you're trolling which is why I've blocked you for about the past 5 years but every now and then I click on the show ignored content against my better judgement.

Sorry to break it to you but richmond hasn't drafted for #1 rucks in years. Ottens was probably the last proper one though maybe you could argue Vickery.

We trade in guys with development at another club and role the dice on rookies.

Have you been asleep the past 3 years?

Not a lot to take out of the game other than I hope 16 other clubs don't try and play the Collingwood way.

  • Houli butchered the ball by foot all night. but he should be able to tidy that up.
  • Riewoldt had one shot at goal and butchered it. Should be able to tidy that up.
  • Pickett for his lack of possessions I did like what he did with the ball. One bad game in his total three isn't reason to drop him.
  • Stack on the other hand will be in trouble if Caddy is fit. Stack in the form he was in last year is first XXII. In the form he was in last night he is lucky to be on the list. He will bounce back but it is going to be hard to find form in the seconds at the moment....
  • Higgins and Bolton both showed they should be the first choice small forwards. Clean and enthusiastic. Good game from both.
  • Soldo has come on in leaps and bounds. I think half our battle in the first is we were roving to the Grundy taps that he was losing. Once we realised Soldo is actually winning taps it got better in the middle. Lack of a runner may have hurt in getting the message out there. 23 hitouts and 2 clearances. Did well.
  • Did Castagna play further up the field away from goal last night? To me it seemed that way. I think I like his poor kicking at goal rather than what he did further up the ground. Time will tell I think.

Delivery into the forward line was ugly. After round one they should have realised Lynch would have two blokes hanging off him. Also, the days of bombing it into a full forward are gone. Next week will be even tougher to bomb it in with McEvoy there to mark over the top.

Overall, over the past few years we haven't matched up well against Collingwood. No Cox actually helped us I think as Astbury and Grimes seem to struggle with his height. His lack of ability compared to Cameron doesn't really matter when the back can't mark or spoil. The extra 7cm Cox has on Cameron seems to matter (see what I did there)...

It isn't all doom and gloom but it certainly isn't all roses either. Trying to beat a flood isn't easy but to kick 5 goals to 1 against the flood showed something was working.

I loved that post and I know what you meant, not intended to take away from the awesome points you made at all. More that generally speaking, people mark the 'skill' of rucks on aspects of the game which don't involve actual rucking. 'He's just a tap ruckman' style disparagement.

It's the toughest role and only getting tougher in the modern era.
I liked the post too

In just 2 years Soldo has gone from being possibly one of the worst rucks in the league to one that can not only just hold his own, he is now occasionally getting on top of other premier Ruckmen. Junk to beating some of the elite in Two years!!!!!

This wasn't his best performance but it wasn't junk either. He does what you want of a big ruckman, he jumps into the opposition repeatedly. That's why Grundy went off! That is Soldo at his best atm. Wearing down an opponent to the point his opponent looks to avoid contact - Grundy wanted no more in that last quarter. He was sore. Watch Grundy limp off at game's end.

Skill wise, Soldo is better than his style looks. Yeah, he looks a bit clunky, but it is effective enough, but more importantly when you play at this level he is aware of it and really wants to be better. All night he looked for the short, safe kick option - he knew his limitations at this stage of the season.

His match against Grundy last season was much better, but coming off an 89 day break, I'd kind of expect the premier Ruckman of the competition to have held up his condition and skill and touch that much better. Sometimes an average looking game from a player is still gold when you consider more of the periphery factors.

really worried about daniel at this stage. hit or miss. was his type of game tonight really. shai, shedda, picko, george picked it up at times. daniel nowhere
He and Graham looked heavy last night. Both struggled with wing roles. I think Caddy out was big. Shah looks more likely upheld and on all than Daniel at this stage.

Rusty Dusty I think. But a few of RFC took on the centering kick option and got picked off. And the Pies rattled us when we were moving the ball fwd. We made a lot of mistakes. A lot of players looked like they were in practice match mode. But maybe that is some credit to the pies. They have matched us as well as any club in the last couple of years.
Yeah matched us but not consistently beat us...
That's a bridge too far for them...😉😊

Yeah I perhaps could've worded it better but what I meant was that Soldo will never be a dynamic, silky player. What I should've added most importantly is - he doesn't need to be!

He was very effective tonight and if anyone has seen Grundy impact a game - he wasn't near it tonight. Job done Ivan.

Odlično
Beat him last time too. He's a bruiser. Grundy would have slept with the lights on last night.

I like low scoring games

Both teams defended well

There's an art to and high scoring for tgr sake of it is meaningless

Lol at ut backfiring ur short quarter

Ccj?

Noticed Stack try and bump when he should have tackled last night early in the game and it seemed to hurt him so maybe that had some affect on his performance. He needs to get the km into his legs, will be s very good player, but not sure if he’s done the type of running in the last 80 days that he did preseason 2019.
Just on our tackling also noticed Pickett trying to bump when he should have tackled and from memory it may have cost us. Reckon Dimma might be highlighting this during the review

More balta needed
