Sam Newman never lets his opinion go unheard. The polarising 71-year-old made headlines with his impassioned rant at the AFL for their stance over same-sex marriage on the Footy Show Thursday night. But that wasn’t the only thing he was blowing up about.

Newman took aim at the Tigers, claiming the hometown favourites would be going home with an army of deflated fans after the full-time siren.

“They will not survive the game,” he said. “They’re not capable of beating Greater Western Sydney. They get stage fright and they’ve played above themselves. I expect Steven Johnson to be rested because he’ll play in the grand final against Adelaide.”

Newman’s prediction was met with boos from the crowd.

Nank was huge today I thought - For a young guy with minimal games under his belt he should hold his head high. Has been absolutely integral in our success this year and has shouldered a ridiculous work load throughout the year as our only real ruck.
